Fatboy Slim, New Order, Joe Strummer, UB40 and Alabama 3 are to star in the forthcoming Keith Allen-directed play, 'Glastonbury'.

The play, which charts the experiences of seven festival goers, visits five venues over the coming months and features Damien Hirst designed sets underneath a 'big top' style circus tent.

Director Allen explained: "It's a play that will attract an audience that wouldn't normally go to the theatre.

"And if you want to attract a non-theatre audience don't put it in a theatre. It's a brilliant device to get people in to watch a play and think, 'Christ I get this, I understand this'.

"I passionately believe that people are bored with television to be honest, and everything about television. Not just reality TV, but most music TV is rank and incredibly boring, I think people don't go to 'shows' because it's never been on their agenda before.

"Basically everyone's 'tent-literate'," he added, "so why not do a show in a tent then."

Though a London venue has yet to be confirmed, organisers are hoping to secure a run at the Camden Roundhouse in 2003.

He told Xfm: "We're hoping it'll come into the Roundhouse, that's the plan, about February next year.

"Who would I like to play? Primal Scream, that'd be absolutely perfect, actually I'm speaking to Mani (Primal Scream bassist) at the moment about appearing in one of these shows.

"In fact we might have Moby, as he'd be over here at the end of our tour. That would be good. Can you imagine? 'Bloody hell, there's Moby'."

Artists involved in the tour will play dates that correspond to their individual hometowns.
