Peter Hook on Joy Division and New Order's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction

Joy Division and New Order are being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this November in Los Angeles. Peter Hook called the honour 'well-earned' and described it as recognition of fan support for both bands rather than the band members themselves, telling Billboard: 'I think it's a vote of confidence from the fans for both bands.'

Hook reflected on what Ian Curtis, Joy Division's frontman who died in 1980, might have thought. He painted Curtis as an optimist who inspired the band during difficult periods, always confident they would 'be bigger than the Doors' and play worldwide. Hook continues to perform Joy Division material with his touring band The Light, and says he thinks of Curtis every time they play somewhere the original band never reached.

Hook is planning to attend the November 14 ceremony despite ongoing tensions with the surviving members of New Order, who continued the band without him after 2011. He remains unforgiving of that decision but acknowledged that the prolonged feud has diminished their collective reputation. 'We've just been acting like petulant, spoiled children,' he admitted.
