You mean a NZ/France final :D
we´re paying the price of being so many years in a second degree in rugby. we finished 5th on the last world cup. but they didn´t respect that and they put us right next to Ireland and Australia on the same group. how unfair is that? ![]()
even though i have a lot of trust in the Pumas! ![]()
actually alejo - i think you could surprise a few teams
i am taking friday off to watch you lot agains the aussies & at 9/1 to win the group i think both you & ireland are great value!
its definitely the hardest group, but youve pulled surprises off before, you could well do it again.
contepomi at fly half has come on leaps & bounds, has a great understanding with gus & your pack is as awesome as ever

You brits are rather wimpy at rugby, even if u somehow miraculously reached the finals to face those Maoris, u'd get hammered.

I don't care who wins, as long as it's not Australia or England or we'll not hear the end of it for the next 4 years
Originally posted by dub I don't care who wins, as long as it's not Australia or England or we'll not hear the end of it for the next 4 years
that's why France will win, but most likely those monster New Zealanders will destroy all their competition
Of the semi-realistic contenders (and there are few), I want France to win. Because they should have won last time after that semi against the All Blacks - best game of rugby I've ever seen.
But they likely won't win, so it's down to England, Australia or New Zealand I'd think, of which I'd prefer NZ.
Our group, thankfully, is a piece of piss, so we should manage to avoid bottom place.
Shame the times of the games suck balls in hell, what with it being on the other side of the planet, so my opportunities to watch games will probably be limited.
dontcha just love the anti english air of people who would prefer a team from the other side of the world to win?

absolutely, everybody would love if the Brits did not win
Just watch, enjoy and celebrate. England v. NZ is a lock for the final. After that it's a toss up, but the quote from a Kiwi journalist about his own side just after England beat them this summer tells the story:
Basically, the England pack are the ugliest ever to play the game, whereas the NZ pack look like male models. Problem is, they play like male models too.
I can't wait :)
I predict lots of blood in the SA v Eng game - the 1970's come back to life. I hope Johnny Wilkinson is wearing armour, because if he ends up at the bottom of a ruck his head will be history.
IMHO, Australia is THE candidate to win the world cup. i hope i´m wrong and we beat those bastards, though! :D
I hope Argentina does well - I love watching them play: awesome power and they give it everything. Agree with you thought that Australia will do well - people are writing them off way too early - homeground advantage will count for a lot. Just over 24 hrs to go - at least this is one big tournament I can watch at a normal hour - every other sporting tournament is always in the middle of the night over here - time for the rest of the world to get up early for a change!

Typical South African attitude, if you can't beat 'em, kick 'em. Why can't your egg-chasers play the same way as your cricketers, hard but fair ?
Do people play "beach rugby" around the rest of the world or this is just a one more stupid thing I saw im my country?

Just another thing you saw in your country :D On american beaches volleyball is the predominant sport played, and maybe some frisbee, and then the millions of surfers
should be a fantastic tournament.. the key to eventual success will be able replacements as not one side will be able to field the same 15 every game.
englands preparation has been fantastic...i hope they can do it...but wilko will be targeted for some rougharse treatment..i realise its a 15 man game, but he really is the key.

here too, man. but to be honest i´ve never seen a beach rugby match in Brazil in all the 20 years i went there. maybe it was the argentinian influence on Camboriú and Florianópolis because it´s a very typical argentinian thing ![]()
we call it "la tocata", which is an espontaneous mini game of rugby. i don´t play it because i´m not very into rugby. i´m a football guy ;)

I resent the implication that I am anti-English. There are just other teams I'd prefer to win!

Agree, the attitude of our rugby team sucks and a few players deserved lenghty bans for the cowardly stuff they got up to (eye-gouging etc). When Nick Mallett was coach you didn't see any of that crap, but now with Straeuli it's all coming back because that's how he played the game. I'm hoping to see a hard, fair game between Eng and SA, but I just have a gut feeling it's going to turn out ugly. By the way, when you say "typical South African atttitude" I hope you're referring specifically to our rugby team and not making it a general comment on all South Africans.
no surprises so far. the best teams won, the worst teams lost.
i´m waiting the Pumas to play "something" today vs Namibia. they didn´t play anything vs Australia on the first match. 14 new players are playing today. it seems the coach thinks Namibia is a piece of cake. i hope he´s not wrong. ![]()
the game is in 4 hours, go Pumas! ![]()

Trust me, Namibia is shithouse - I expect Arg to put at least 50 - 60 points past them. I was disappointed in their showing against the Aussies - they just couldn't get going and seemed without confidence. I reckon they'll improve a lot after tonight's game - nothing like 6 or 7 tries to get the confidence up.
end of first half.
Argentina 27 - 7 Namibia
we made 4 tries so we´ll have a bonus point. but still we´re not playing well at all. ![]()

Indeed, I thought the Why can't your egg-chasers play the same way as your cricketers, hard but fair ? bit clarified that ? Nothing but respect for the cricket team (apart from that gobby little shite Boucher though).

67-14 enough for you ?
argies top of the table now to boot
none of us were right on the correct first try scorer, but your selection got a hat trick!

sorry jeff - you think rugby players are thick? - have you ever heard a footy player interviewed? (le saux excepted)
traditionally in england most players come from public schools (so a bit posh) & go on to be doctors & the like either that or they go to university.
apart from props of course who are just mad.

nah. i didn´t like their 14. they attacked us twice and they made 2 tries. the score was huge but i feel we´re not playing well enough. we make too many mistakes passing the ball and it could be lethal against Ireland! ![]()
Originally posted by masaaki sakai argies top of the table now to bootnone of us were right on the correct first try scorer, but your selection got a hat trick!
how could i know Fede Méndez would score a try? he doesn´t score a lot, you know!
and yes, Matín Gaitán made 3. i thought so because Quesada use to play a lot with his centers. i had that advantage over you!
i hope Quesada plays 10 and Felipe Contepomi plays 12 the next time. Felipe miss a lot of shots with his foot and Quesada is an expert even if he´s worst with his hands. i guess all the important games will be decided by very few points. so we can´t give that advantage having Quesada on the bench! ![]()
Pumas 50 vs 3 Romania
we did what we had to do. even we got the bonus point (we made 7 tries). now it all depends on our match against Ireland... that will be a tough one ![]()
btw, no surprises so far on the tournament.....

Imagine if the Pumas beat Ireland (scoring enough tries to get the bonus point) and then in the final pool A match Ireland beat the wallabies, the wallabies go out
Tall ask but....
there´s another posibility too. if there´s a triple tie then the wallabies will pass because of their high scoring. then i guess Ireland will have more points than us.... ![]()
1 hour to go... Argentina vs Ireland... the one who wins continues on the tournament.... the other goes home....
i´m nervous! ![]()

Pumas 15 vs 16 Ireland
i can´t believe it! ![]()
we played badly today. a couple of things done right and the game was ours... well, that´s it. we´re out of the tournament. Ireland´s got their revenge. claps for them... and claps for the Pumas too. we´re getting there to the top teams. it´s just a matter of time and the results will be seen.
but i´m sad right now! :(
Great game by Argentina against Ireland (score 15-16), for sure the better team lost, I can't quite work out how Ireland won.
In the England / Samoa game (score 35-22), again the better team lost and I for one wouldn't put money on South Africa against Samoa next weekend. Martin Johnson summed it up when he said that England won't even be favourites to win next Sunday (v. Uruguay) let alone the QF.
This World Cup is getting better and better and we have had some fantastic matches this weekend, roll-on the QFs in a couple of weeks. :)
Argentina needs more regular rugby against good opposition and they'll improve even more. As for Eng not being favourites against Uruguay? If they put less than 50 points past them it will be a miracle. SA is going to kick Samoa's arse - they love playing against teams that like to get physical.
i agree that more competition will be better for us. but they don´t let us participate on the 3 nations. and i don´t understand it. if the 5 nations allowed Italy to play (they loose ALL the games) i don´t know what´s the problem of making a 4 nations. i´d bet we could make good games against SA. Australia and NZ are miles away but they don´t win us like before. Australia couldn´t even get the bonus point against us at their own home. ![]()

the Aussies havent played the Frogs this tournament
The blacks lost to france recently
France lost to England recently & only scraped through against England B
but that's all in the past

If Australia can maintain possession like they did against the All Blacks they should be able to neutralise the Wilkinson factor - the only way Eng are going to win, because they sure as hell aren't going to score any tries against the Aussie defence.

the Australians pinpointed Leon McDonald as the weak link in the Enzed defence & ran at him all game - don't see any weak links in the English defence so they can't use the same tactics there, down to their last props now as well & Johnno looking to retire on a high (according to info wiggy let slip on ITV)
