My mates brother does, though he's not a big football fan at all. There was a Manc in our school, used to wear an MUFC coat to school and get battered every other day.

United fan from salford, not keen on prawns unless they've been turned into crisp by Walkers, became armchair fan when I could'nt recognise the accents all around me and the price went up every other day ( seemingly anyway )

Proud to say I never bought an official kit, ashamed to recall I used to wear about eight scarves ( on wrists, belt hoops, 'round neck )but I was younger then and I thought it was big and clever.

You miss the point... Its not about trying to make me contradict myself, its about having something in common with people from different countries/races/religion because you support the same team and therefore have a common ground in which to interact when you wouldnt necessarily otherwise.

We unite on the basis of what we have in common :)

It was only a dive from the one angle though - another camera showed contact was made and it probably should have been given. Fair play to Neville for a) nutting Macca b) saying he'd do it again if Macca got near enough !

Either way, their decline is just around the corner now Ferguson is no longer in a position to buy the title.

During the 80's having fans from all over was regarded as something to be proud of, but now the anti-United brigade suggest it's something to be ashamed of. Anyone that's been to Manchester will know that the idea of "No Reds In M'cr" is a lie.

As for.... uniting on the basis of what we have in common, I meant the increased chances of people from different countries supporting the same team this transcending cultural and geographical divides.

still thats what i love about supporting, 2 of my best mates are 'pool and arsehole supporters. We despise each others teams yet are all best of mates! and will be sitting side by side willing England on in the Euro04 this year!! :D

It's funny, because when I first started to get into football (I'd been the City with me old man a few times, but never paid that much attention to the pro game) in 1973 and 1974, United were in Division Two, and our local big club, the Villa, were even lower than that. I never had any concept of hating them at all. The only teams I automatically didn't like were Cocky Leeds and Arsenal, Leeds because they never lost very often, and Arsenal because the TV gantry was always too low there, and you couldn't see the far touchline. All the kids round by us were Liverpool or Leeds fans (or West Ham, strangely), there weren't any Man U at all.

I remember everyone in the year above at school siding with either Leeds or Arsenal, but my year was split between Liverpool and ManYoo.

My parents' neighbours' sons are both Everton fans, simply because they were the 'fashion' team when these young lads were growing up. Imagine being saddled with that for the rest of your life? Liverpool, Spurs and Man Utd were the main teams at school, with Villa and Forest having their fair share of supporters. Going to school in the 80's the grief that liverpool fans gave out was unbearable.... what is astonishing is that they STILL do it 20 years later!!!!!

We are still the all-time, no.1 most successful English club of all-time, ever. Read a recent article about Kenyon taking over at Chelsea, I know he's been on gardening leave for a while but he stated he was hoping Chelsea would take over Man Utd as England's most successful club. I don't mind if they do overtake Man Utd, as long as he continues ot overlook who is actually at the very top.
