Well, it's the foreign press, so most of us!
Of course, 5 first ones are best drama, 5 last one best comedy, so now you need to pick one if you have seen many of those...
I can say I only saw 3 of those... Seabiscuit, Finding Nemo and Bend It Like Beckham.. so I can't really state, however Seabuscuit is quite good...
Oh, and just for the record, I'm *REALLY* happy to see Johnny Depp nominated for his role in Pirates of the Caribeans.. he was truly hilarious...
Johnny Depp is sure one of the best and not corrupted of his generation!
I procrastinated when Mystic River was in town, so I never caught it. And Big Fish isn't out yet, but I have huge hopes for it, being a huge Burton fan. But Return of the King, Master and Commander, and Lost in Translation were all excellent. Too early to give a final vote!

Bollocks. Only film I've seen out of this lot is Bend It Like Beckham and I cannae vote for that (although I did see Juliet Stevenson in our local M&S last Saturday!)..
Lost in Translation was pretty good, but where's Party Monster and Gerry? Those were the only other 2 movies I've seen this year.
Haven't seen any of 'em...want to see ROTK and Cold Mountain (had to read that in English, actually a well-written book and I liked it), but I shall abstain for voting. Thank you for letting me waste your time

There's another one like that out this weekend, "Mona Lisa Smile". Everytime I see the ads for it I think "at last, Dead Poets Society for chicks!" That's funny. Every time I see an ad for it, I think, "Gosh, I really should drop a bomb through Julia Roberts' mail slot and be rid of her forever."

It's not bad, but please, don't even consider comparing this to Dead Poets Society, which is, btw, my favorite movie of all time...
It's a chick movie, no doubt about it..
But I've seen better college movies.. anybody remembers the movie School Ties? When you look back at this movie, you note that everybody is a "big" star these day, and they were all unknown then, except Brendon Fraser for his Encino Man... (!)...

Brandan Fraser Matt Damon Ben Affleck Chris O'Donell Sadly, I do remember seeing Encino Man in the theater. But, if I were forced to watch it now, I'd just shut it off or regard it as a early '90s b-movie, which anything with Pauly Shore is.
Lost In Translation is the only film that I made a point to see, and I wasn't disappointed at all. Not ready to battle the crowds to see LOTR quite yet, what with the holidays and all, but I'm quite certain that I will love this one just as much as the first two, and also, a few people I know have told me that Seabiscuit is tops on their list, though my vote is for Lost In Translation.

I have Dead Poets pretty much memorized...if only because every teacher in middle and high school at some point in the year insisted on showing it during classtime :D . I liked it well enough, but I was always puzzled as to why all the teachers thought this was "appropriate". After all, one guy kills himself, and the movie basically promotes ignoring teachers. But nonetheless, I saw enough of it in high school to do me good the rest of my life. No offense and all 
I've seen many of these listed movies, and I can't seem to choose one over another.
Seabiscuit was good, but I'm not sure it deserves an Oscar. At the end of the day, it's just another well done feel-good movie.
I enjoyed Lost in Translation but, then again, it's not THAT great and it's too "alternative" to win prizes (not that I would mind if it would get one, this being said).
I'm very surprised not to see The Last Samurai listed in there. I saw that movie yesterday and enjoyed it thoroughly -- a lot more than I expected, believe me. I wouldn't be surprised if the actor playing the leader of the Samurais were to win an Oscar for best foreign actor. He was fantastic.
As for Cold Mountain... the film's coming out only on christmas day in Canada!!!!
I just saw Mystic River yesterday, and it was, in my opinion, a fair contendor for whatever awards (Oscars, Golden Globes) it is being nominated for and should probably win. Lost in Translation was good, but I just liked Mystic River better.
FINDING NEMO - no contest well, I haven't seen The Return of the King yet, but it'll have to be REAL good to beat Nemo !

no! the hollywood foreign press association is made up of entertainment journalists who report on hollywood for newspapers and magazines in more than 50 countries. none of the members are american.
Voted for LOTR, amazing, I am going to see it again next week.
Haven't seen Lost in Traslation, who's in it? Maybe it got a different title in Spain.
Cold Mountain....not sure I shall enjoy it. Not too keen on Minghella films. I was bored stiff by the English patient.
Funnily enough right now I am listening to the review of "last Samurai" and they are panning it. Bad acting and boring, they say. Have not seen it but I will.

my pick came down to rotk and lost in translation, but i think i'll have to give the nod to rotk...loved it, but maybe one ending too many.

Went for ROTK, I suppose it was pretty good, it was just them squealing flying birds that done ma head in. I agree with Nicos about Johnny Depp in Pirates - you can clearly see how much of a fan of 70's British Comedy with his magical performance. He mad me laugh a few times, which is a rarity:D

I caught The Last Samurai the other day and I thought it was quite pathetic. Nothing (except the extremely beautiful obligatory love interest) stood out to me as very good. Most of the writing was full of cliches and subtle racism (it was obviously written by a whitey), and the story had some glaring plot holes. It aspired to be more than a historical action movie and didn't deliver. I groaned most of the way through. The whole time I just wanted to go watch 'Ran' or some other far superior Kurosawa movie again.

from the ads it looks not like kurosawa, but more akin to james clavell's 'shogun.' 
saw Master and Commander and it was pretty good, Love Actually was one of the funniest movies ive seen in a long time, but LOTR Return of the King was amazing!!...so it had to get my vote!

I didn't see most movies yet, but I sure hope Lord of the Rings will get something, probably best director, for the 3 marvellous movies...
I didn't see the 3rd one yet, I will eventually have time to see it, but I don't know many 12 hours movie that good , remember, this is >one< movie cut in 3 for the theatre, so you can't judge it my one of its chapter.. you have to see the full thing...
I'll sure buy the box of the 3 parts when it will be out next summer! or maybe wait, as they usually do "collector's editions" and most stuff for x-mas..
