Well, let's see...I believe it was 7 Seconds or JFA in 1984 or somewheres in there.

And if you really wanna get picky about it...I guess it would be when my Mom took me to the Day on the Green Festival in Oakland, CA in like 1980 me thinks to see REO Speedwagon and Foreigner...

Black Sabbath (!) at Malvern Wintergardens in 1979. Went to school with Bill Ward's nephew.

Stereophonics and Feeder at the Odyssey in Belfast in 2001. I started gigging so late because it's only in the last few years that Northern Ireland's started getting decent gigs again; everyone used to come here in the 80s and then it all died off during the 90s. We've still got a bit of a way to go but it's better than it was.

I think my memory recalls Sir Howard Jones at The Royal Albert Hall in '86. Cool!

The Jam at the Leicester De Montford Hall 1979 - doesn't sound too cringe-worthy now, as I'd go & see them tomorrow if they reformed!!

hmmm....i can't think of my first one, but one of the first was Neil Young and Crazy Horse at the Gorge Ampitheatre with Patti Smith and Sponge opening.

My first gig would have been Hendrix in San Jose, 1970, but my mom wouldn't let me go because she thought my friends used drugs. She was right. She said I could see him next time. Well, he died before "next time," a fact I often reminded her of, I am now ashamed to say. She finally said it wasn't her fault he died.

So, my first gig was Led Zeppelin in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, 1973.

My mom drove me, and my sister, and our high school friends.

Smashing Pumpkins, Sacred and Profane tour 2000. But, the worst and most embarassing gig I'd been forced to go to was O-Town in 2000... try living that down :barf:

They weren't always that lame, it's just that commercial success really ruined them, I love their first EP and album, some good original songs plus a killer cover of Going Down To Liverpool. Saw them in San Francisco in 1984, and a very enjoyable show.

Mine first was the Police in 1980, though the biggest reason I went was because XTC was opening, and they totally blew Sting and Co. off the stage (not too hard to believe, I know). Still have my Black Sea concert shirt, though it's a bit small to wear, but I keep it cause XTC quit touring about a year and a half later.

Kiss at Selland Arena in Fresno, California. It was November 27, 1979.

The Mission, Newport 1990 - it took me til I was 16 to go to a proper gig, and this was organised by a languages teacher at my school! (goth phase alert). We then went to see a certain other goth band at Wembley Arena, but I'm not allowed to mention them...

As a little aside, first ever gig with Mrs garymac, The Fall @ Salford uni ... relationship survived ,though we disagree about ' ghost in the house ' Mrs garymac, ex Wigan Casino type Both agree Brix is best exwife/exbandmember of Fall Mrs garymac also had soft spot for Mark Lard Riley, feels his face best suited for career in radio

Surprisingly, mine was an acceptable one.

New Order, Manchester Evening News Arena 29th December 1998

Mine could have been great: New Order, 1 Dec 1988. Of course I was only 12, my parents didn't let me go. Then I let Bon Jovi pass me by (Jan '89), and A-ha (March '89), but I eventually popped the cherry with Information Society, August '89 - for the sake of honesty, it was also the first time I REALLY kissed a girl - ironically enough, when they were playing 'Repetition'!

She was stunning, but she wore braces and cut my tongue... :kiss:

The JACKSON 5 GUILDHALL PRESTON 1976/7. Classic first gig! :D Then it was THE TAVARES at BLACKBURN CAVENDISH CLUB. Straight after this it was LED ZEPPELIN at KNEBWORTH. Always had a wide taste in music so can't really be ashamed of these.My how MJ has taken a turn for the worse these days whereas I am behaving and almost sane!

The Stranglers- Corby Festival Hall- July 1980 This was a benefit gig for the thousands of men in the town who had lost their jobs with the closure of the steelworks. A riotous gig, punks fighting, ripping up the seats and throwing them, spitting on each-other. A frightening experience for a 10 year old boy.

depeche mode with nitzer ebb in 1990 chicago at the world music theatre. if i remember correctly, it had just opened and dm was the sixth show in the theatre's rookie season. my first 4 concerts were all there. morrissey 91, the cure 92, and new order 93. worst show i ever went to was collective soul in 95 0r 96.

Spandau Ballet, in Zaragoza, I did not much like them but there were not that many groups visiting Zaragoza at that time, all my friends were going and (I know I could get some flak for saying this) Spandau Ballet were briefly hip (about 5 minutes, 13 seconds) at the early eighties, before Gold.

First ever gig I went because of the music: a Creation concert: Felt, someone called Momus or something like that and Biff Bang Pow! (Could have gotten the consonants wrong, though)

Dunno if you saw the TOTP performance of 'Gary Gilmore's Eyes' that got shown again on TOTP2 over Christmas but that's pretty much how she was for the entire gig - just looking totally disinterested, tho' she did just muster enough enthusiasm to do some backing vocals for 'Bombsite Boy'. I think that top of the 'gigs I missed' for me would have to be when Adam and the Ants played at the local town hall in August '77 - it was something like their 10th ever gig...

Why not go on your own, do you need someone to hold your hand?

My first gig was Adam & The Ants at The Brighton Centre in December 1981.

if you discount the wombles who were playing at a campsite my family were staying in back in the day mine ouwld be the equally embarassing y&t supported by girlschool. folowed shortly by def leppard, when they had an even number of limbs in the band.
