My English girlfriend insisted we watch this, even though she doesn't care much for soccer, & I have to say Beckham's penalty was a good one, but it was a brilliant save from Barthez.

What else could James do? It wasnt his fault. So we made two mistakes, we also made a much vaunted france team look ordinary for 90 minutes. I also know that on that performance a lot of teams arent going to want to face us, esepcially switzerland and croatia, both of whom were diabolical today.
So why dont you get behind the team for a change, best that this happened today rather than in the knock out stages.

4th-ed. I'm no die-hard Beckham fan, but there was NOTHING wrong with that penalty, it was a class save from Barthez. I thought England were excellent, special mention for King, but maybe the way it panned out is precisely why France are one of the top teams in the world. While I may agree about Heskey, how can you seriously slag off Gerrard? The lad's class, but he's only human for Christ's sake! I'll bet even ZZ has made an error or 2! Instead of slagging off your national side, get behind them and at least appreciate the fact that your country made it to Portugal. I wish I could, but I can't so I'm getting behind our neighbours. 
On the evidence of the earlier game, I still reckon it's England & France that'll go through.

Check out Zidane's penalty from behind the goal if you get chance. His whole body-shape, disposition, etc, indicates the ball is going to James's bottom left, when of course the ball went bottom right.
Not sure I agree about Beckham's penalty comments though. He's a good free-kick taker, but he ain't no penalty taker. He just tries to wallop it with no guile whatsoever. You could've guessed which way he was going and he didn't get near enough to the corner to make it stoppable.
We'll do 'em in the final!

Man , i d hate to be in the English'es position (as in Bayern's in 1999 ;) ), but thats the beauty of football after all... One question also: Why Rooney was substituted? He's on my fantasy league team and i need him scoring !!! I guess my curses against Erikson when he did that, were heard by God :D . Thing is, having seen the Swiss-Croatia game, i dont see any possible way England will be left out from next round (after all, i have a real money bet on them ;) ), but then again, like i said , its football, the best doesnt always win.
Rooney had started to lose the plot a bit, was beginning to seek battles with individual Frenchmen rather than playing against France for England.
It was a pity that certain much-vaunted players continued in their habit of vanishing when they are most needed - Owen could probably have contributed more defensively, Scholes cannot play out there next week, he looks lost and is well short on international confidence, and as for Heskey......send him home on the next plane, and shoot the bloody thing down while in the air. The man can't stand up for falling down.

I think it was a poor decision, he'd had a talking to but didn't recieve a card and had visibly calmed down.
