getting tired of going out on penalties. Beckham no doubt will be Hung drawn and quartered in the papers tomorrow, and rightly so. On that performance we deserved to lose over 90mins.Just hope the idiots don't come out in force and trash Lisbon. it's a bit of a pattern with him when it comes to international matches.
the pavlovian feeling of nausea when i hear the words 'england' and 'penalty shoot-out' in the same sentence has grown even stronger thanks to today. shame.

I only saw the first half but got a text from a mate in England at the end, and the 1st thing I thought "is that a popping sound?" Yes, the Beckham bubble bursting, as you said. It's been on the cards, he's been crap since the start of the year. For the best dead-ball expert in the world (ahem) missing 2 penalties like that is terrible. His corners/free-kicks are as bad, and even Gary Neville could give him a lesson in crossing. I haven't seen the disallowed goal yet, awaiting the news report with interest. *edit* Just seen Beckham's penalty.

Well...now that England is out, i shall have to put my full backing behind Sweden to win it for King Henrik...
I had to leave for work at half time, and couldn't get the feed to come in on the computers at work...so I called my mom at work, had her pull it up...and she held the phone next to the speakers for me to listen to for what seemed like an eternity...thanks Mom, you are so good to your son to do that!!!
alas...the boss called me away before it was all over...so when I managed to get back on the phone with mom...she informed me of the result...
Ran into an expatriate going through the check out lines at the store, sporting his England shirt...and struck up a conversation...he was gutted...and we stood their talking footie for about 15 minutes...he was an amicable fellow...moved here from Newcastle 12 years ago...and Shug will love this one...when he asked me what team I supported, I told him Celtic...he laughed and suggested that I start watching real football!!!
he's going to be pulling for the Czech's the rest of the way...and he suggested that we meet up to watch some matches during the upcoming season...

I've just seen the end of the game on TV, and ouch, I wouldn't want to be Beckham tonight... how horrible can a penalty shot can be eh?

Oh well, I feel for you guys, it's a horrible way to end (on second thoughts, Italy got it worst.. they actually never lost a game), in the 1998 olympics, Canada lost to Czech Republic in the olympic tournament the same damned way... on penalty shots.
Seriously, it's not a good way to send any game, I prefer the NHL playoff sudden death.. play until somebody scores..
It must be my north american culture, but I also feel it's difficult to get a winner by playing only *one* game.. would be nice to see best of 3 or best of 4, but still, I guess people don't want to see the competition going on too long... american football is that way too and well, don't have a bad day on the final or you're done!

Best of luck to Greece tonight and for the rest of the tournament, they have been the one side who have impressed me as playing as well as they can. Sweden and the Czechs have both looked good going forward, as did the Dutch. Don't care who wins now as long as it isn't the French.

I can't see the game...all I can do is listen to Five Live's audio feed....but it hasn't sounded like the French have played very well, going into half time...or is it just the bias of the BBC's announcers???
All I know is that Greece better start getting a lead now; Barthez can block penalty shots, unlike the English twat.
