your phobias?

spiders deep water

i used to be afraid of dan rather, but since he 'retired' i can sleep easier.

Friend of mine was bitten by a brown recluse spider this past week, he showed me the affected area, not a very pretty sight...

I can't swim very well, but I've been able to block out any negative thoughts while crossing over any body of water. Whatever happens will happen

a friend of mine was bitten by one 2 years ago. she was lucky, as she didn't have to have much skin removed (it was on her shin) and they caught it in time. she did show me the before and after photos, though. nasty. she had a nice hole in her leg for weeks and missed school (teaching) for about a week. hardcore antibiotics helped, as well. i checked out brown recluses online after her 'incident' and found some gruesome pictures. just what i needed to help alleviate my phobia.

last year we had a black widow living in the women's faculty restroom in our corridor. i would do a complete check of the toilet before doing my business but she seemed to prefer the magazine rack, lucky for us.

if an animal is going to kill me i want to see it coming--like a bear or an alligator.

I remember being in a cabin a few years back and seeing a scorpion in the bathroom.

OK, here's something for you and Green: Back in the 80s, a surfer in Montereay Bay was eaten by a great white shark. Here's a story about it:

A highly publicized attack took place near the Red Triangle during the winter of 1981. A week before Christmas, Lewis Boren and his friends were surfing at Spanish Bay, just south of Monterey. After lunch, Boren returned to the water alone where he was attacked while on his 5-foot fiberglass surfboard. His board was found the next morning with a large piece missing in the classic shape of a bite mark. The piece was found later and Boren's body was found floating about a half-mile north of the attack site with a similar bite mark. It seems he was floating out to catch the larger waves offshore, his arms outstretched in front of him, when a large GW attacked, cleanly biting through both him and his board. From the bite radius on the corpse and the board, the size of the attacking GW has been estimated at 18-20 feet.

Not too long after this, I went on my first dive. In Monterey Bay. The minute I was in the water, and couldn't see the bottom, I imagined a jaws-like creature rushing up from the dephths to eat me at that precise moment. That fear subsided as I dove to the bottom and was able to see my surroundings.

My biggest phobia is New Order's break-up.

All forms of life, excluding plants, smaller than domestic house cats. That and phone calls. My nightmare is to wake up in some Louisiana bnackwater or the Amazon surrounded by insects and ickie things and ringing phones.

i'm afraid of people, and i'm afraid of being operated on or having my skin ripped open, and i'm afraid of talking on the phone.

I used to be shit-pants afraid whenever a dog was trying to be friendly and start jumping on me (as dogs will do when trying to say "hey! a new person to give me food on occasion!"), but I seem to have worked out my issues on that regard. Must be something stemmed from childhood memories or an early viewing of Cujo...

Other than that, I can't swim (fear of drowning). I have fear of heights, but mostly of the "as soon as I look down I realize how high I'm up" variety.

Does fear of intimacy count?

Lightning, large crowds, being shot, girls, eating cauliflower and meat.

presumably you would be fine around nutrias then. they are giant rodents native to south america and were imported to the US for their fur.

i met my first (and only) nutria on a swamp tour in slidell, louisiana, outside new orleans. the tour guide's wife had one as a pet (usually illegal, but she had been abandoned as a...whatever you call a baby nutria, so the dept. of agriculture let her keep it). it had a thing for teenage mutant ninja turtle gummy bears and had a pleasant demeanour. it was adorable but damn, it was big.

My cell has bugs noises to choose as standard ring

And my neighbours 2 Dobberman's, who allways jump over our fence to come and say hello by jumping on me. I hate them so badly, and so does my youngest son, because when they jump on him, he falls.

frogs. Back in third grade, my buddy chased me around with a frog in his hand. i was scared out of mind. To this day i'm scared of frogs and dont know why. I can handle huge cockroaches better.

My dad eats frog legs sometimes and I couldnt get myself to open the refrigerator when they were placed in there. Luckily, i do not experience much now because i do not live near my family.

bees & centepides. i've been stung once and i thought i was going to die, i avoid bees at all cost. centepides because my mom used to tell us horror stories about centipides crawling into ppls ears and getting stuck in their brains. her idea of bedtime stories :/

Also, I hate worms. When I was in 7th grade, my class was assigned to do a pseudo-archeological dig in the field behind our school, which meant we had to dig 3 foot holes into the ground and sift through that dirt to find artifacts planted by the teacher. I already hated touching worms, but the other kids in my assigned group thought it was funny and started putting worms down my shirt and in my hair. Eight years later and they still make me shrink away and my skin crawl.

I also used to be afraid of roaches as a kid, since my house was filled with them because I lived in a part of Philly that's right by the Schuykil river, but after seeing them so often, I became used to them.

Well some people chose to carry on with a mysterious facade. It makes me skeptical to who i'll meet. I wont name any names.

Actually, I'm quite new to this online thing. Until a few months ago i was a virgin to online forums. If the opportunity arose I'm sure i would probably meet some of you. I have grown fond of quite of few noolers.

Irrational fear of clowns and midgets, I use to be clastrophobic but has subsided quite a bit over the years.

My ultimate fear or the thing that terrifies me is the thought of someone taking my last beer in the fridge!
