The Emmys AKA "Everybody Really Freakin Loves Raymond"

Anyone watch? It's like CBS bought off the esteemed "Emmy voters" to hand the show over to that crap sitcom that everyone supposedly loves (it says so in the title!)

Plus, the whole "Emmy Idol" thing was pathetic, the Shaloub win was odd (considering how Monk has become unwatchable this year), the Life and Death of Peter Sellers did better than I would have expected, and the awakward Family Guy moments have me convinced that the show should've stayed away from new episodes and be remembered for its brilliant run a few years back.

I think the parents are funny the rest is crap.

I remember watching a two part episode where the whole family went to Italy, what a load of shit, thats when i really fell out with this show and moved onto 'King Of Queens' which i only ended up watching because Jerry Stiller made me laugh so i moved on again, now i'm currently watching 8 simple rules, although since john ritter's not in it anymore its not as good.

i've never watched raymond. not once. and i never will.

the only part i saw was william shatner and the mezzo soprano doing the theme song to star trek. that was awesome.

I'm not saying it's a bad show (the few episodes I've seen were pretty good), but it's a case of wondering how much the "final season" phenomenon had to do with them effectively sweeping the Emmys (and screwing a better show, "Arrested Development", along the way).

I was glad that Sellers got the recognition, it's a fantastic flick.

Shaloub (for he will always be "Shaloub", his talents ordinarily transcend the bourgeois affliction of a first name) is good as Monk, but...I stopped watching the show sometime around thirty minutes into the new season premiere. From what I understand (looking at Jump the Shark and IMDB.com) it hasn't come up for air since

At least Desperate Skanks didn't take home "best comedy"...

I've only ever seen one episode of Raymond, the one where his brother was going out with a girl who was barely half his age, and both of them were lying to each other about their real ages. Peter Boyle was absolutely hilarious in that one, but I've never felt compelled to watch another episode, I never even knew what day of the week it was on.

Glad to see that the P. Sellers pic got some recognition, I found that to be quite an interesting view. (Nice cameo by Mackenzie Crook as the "car" salesman... )

AD was pretty good, GOB found out he was a dad, Michael found out that it was his uncle Oscar and not his dad in jail, and George Michael and Maybe were awkward around one another. Good stuff (still shoulda gotten the fucking Emmy, I say...)

Thank God Raymond is over. I never found that show funny in the least. The only people I know who enjoyed Raymond are one's that enjoyed Matlock and Murder She Wrote.

I live in the UK where "raymond" was shown at 08:00, to fill dead air, that is the low estime it is held. I was staggerd to find that it was the top rated comedy in the US.

Agreed, Sinfield came first. But in my revolution the order in which you go to the wall is based on the size of your crime, and Raymond has committed the comedy equivalent of attempted genocide. So I will re-word my statement, thus:

I bleeding wish that I could, I have a lead pipe with his name on it. Its hummdrumm by-the-numbers rubbish and everybody loves Raymond are from exactly the same cloth. How anyone can class this rubbsih as top notch comedy is quite beyond me.

Raymond will be first against the wall when the revolution comes for the attempted murder of comedy, Sinfield will be just behind him for the lesser crime of confidence trickery (trying to convince people that his show was funny), followed by Joey and the whole cast of Friends and the rest of their tired, tired ilk of mind numbingly bad, written by committee, pointless waste of perfectly good electricity.
