have we done this one?
anyway:
1.) It's The End of The World As We Know It (And I feel Fine) 2.) So. Central Rain 3.) The One I Love 4.) Man On The Moon 5.) Just a Touch
NOT necessarily in order:
Okay.......
Find The River
Belong
Wendell Gee
King Of Comedy (808 State remix)
King Of Birds
Hated leaving out E-Bow The Letter, Strange Currencies, Shaking Through, Camera, Pretty Persuasion. Also the live version of Dallas as done with Billy Bragg and Robyn Hitchcock.
I knew this would happen...revised list!
I expect it may change again if I stay up another few hours...![]()
Todays selection will be:
Orange Crush Welcome to the Occupation Walk Unafraid Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight I'll Take The Rain
Nightswimming. Its the end of the world. Losing my religion. Everybody hurts. Gardening at night.
Only 5!?! this is aint gonna be easy!!
For now i will go with...
Perfect Circle Orange Crush Oddfellows Local 151 Exhuming McCarthy The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight
But im missing out some classics... stand, great beyond, fall on me, world leader pretend, and so on!
Get Up, Disturbance At The Heron House, Fall On Me, Walk Unafraid, Talk About The Passion.
Honarable mentions for Cuyahoga and the untitled one at the end of Green.
Ask me again tomorrow and I'll give you a different five...
Stand, as good as it is, is the stupidest song ever written.
I cant believe i forgot Finest Worksong, I Took Your Name, Bad Day and Electrolite.
Bit gutted i only saw them twice on the last tour. Isle of Wight and Manchester. Should have gone to Hyde Park :(
I prefer the non-ballads... Very difficult... They did a lot of great stuff...
Bad Day Orange Crush Losing my religion Animal Stand
Lest favourite/Most irritating REM song would be Shiny Happy People, of course. Would that be a universal choice?
Superman is not a REM song !
Anyway, here's my top 5:
Talk about the passion Don't go back to Rockville Orange crush The one I love Let me in
Never got the big deal about them. Stipe must rate as one of the most annoying people on the planet, alongside Zane Lowe and that bloke from the Scissor Sisters (Ana Matronic).
Having said that, Man on the Moon, It's The End... and Imitation of Life are classics.
Losing My Religion Everybody Hurts Man On The Moon What's The Frequency Kenneth Drive
Tough choice... don't know much of REM beside their greatest tunes though, even through I have 2 albums.
Hard not to add The One I Love to this list though.
Not sure I'd add Stand and Orange Crush though...

It's not annoying... maybe you just don't like the B-52's? ![]()

OOOOhhhh...that looks just like what I think my list would be!!!

why not? should one discount all along the watchtower as one's favourite jimi hendrix song simply because he didn't write it? or the byrds' cover of turn, turn, turn?

Point duly taken, but it's still not a REM song...
ahhh another place to show my age!!!
It's The end of the world as we know it (just for the "Leonard Bernstein" Bit)
and when The Red Sox won the World Series I must played it about ten times in a row!
"The One I love"
"Pop Song 89"
"Don't Go Back to Rockville"
"Superman
"Drive" just misses the cut to "Automatic" is one of my favorite all time cds
Whew...too many to choose from...

i saw some comedian on comedy central do a bit where he said this was the best college bar song ever because dozens of drunken students would mumble along to it and then, in perfect harmony, yell out 'leonard bernstein!' too true. and a great song, as well.
