Memo my son brought home today.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We want to inform you about a situation that happened at the end of 8th
grade lunch today. A teacher smelled smoke and investigated the smell which was coming from one of our boys' restrooms. The teacher found that someone had lit a piece of paper on fire and then placed it in a urinal. The fire was out when the teacher found it We followed district procedure: 1)pulled our fire alarm, 2) evacuated all students and staff, 3) called 911, and 4) notified the Des Moines Public Schools Security. In these situations our first concern is the safety and welfare of our students and staff. Te fire department responded as well as the Des Moines Public Schools Security. They investigated the restroom and called the arson investigators. The building was cleared for occupancy by the fire department and students and staff reentered the building. Lunch schedules were adjusted for students and staff. Regular classes were resumed.
