Naked Raygun

man, i forgot about this band. They rocked back in the day. Im by no means saying they "sound like JD" they probably hadn't even had any exposure to them being a yank band from the early 80's but anyway I think people 'round here might dig them. If ya got itunes, start by checking out 1985's All Rise. Lemme know what you think.

They were from Chicago, I believe. Ex-roommate had their records, so I never bought any of 'em, except for the one 45 that had the tribute to Slim Pickens on the b-side, I really should look for their stuff. They gotta have tons of integrity if Steve Albini liked 'em.

I think they were at their peak in 88 or 89...I can remember a couple guys that were in a punk group that opened up for them at The Metro. I think they were called, "31st floor" or something like that...sound familiar? Maybe they were lying...who knows...

Their sound is definatly big black-ish. alot of the songs on "all rise" would fit right on the "hammer party" without missing a beat, but its less rip off and more about the sounds coming out of Chicago at that time. Im sure Steve Albini wouldn't be such a big fan if he thought they were ripping off his band

its one of those rare releases that just flows so wonderfuly from start to finish. can't believe I had forgotten about them, sounds even better today than when I was in High School.
