they always sound to me a bit strangely, I cant get them. In early 90s they were very popular here.
Fucking great group, i saw them last december in Glasgow for the first time in ten years. I wish i could get my head round wether they really are dodgy or just playing a game.
I like them a lot. Some of the albums are a little bit hard to listen to though. But they made a lot of great tunes.
Haven't heard the band, but been to the City (Ljubljana, Laibach in German), which was ace! Makes me want to hear the band.
well if you ever want to hear any of their stuff just let me know, though i have to warn you they aint the easiest to listen to

i'm pretty sure they're just playing a game. there is a nice little essay on that in the booklet for Neu Konservatiw.
personally, i really like the earliest stuff. by the time they started covering the beatles they sort of 'lost' me. still, that stuff is quite fun.

I was there in December of 2002. I was on a bus from Serbia to Italy, and stopped in Ljubljana to catch a train from there to Trieste. I had a day to kill beforre the train arrived, so I spent it seeing the city.
There's an old medieval city, surrounded by newer construction. Very incongruous to be standing in beautiful cobblestoned medieval streets and see UGLY socialist construction rising above the medieval city. Still, a very charming city. Absolutely loved it, and would love to go back. There's a castle on a hill overlooking the city, which I did not have time to visit. A beautiful river winds its way around the base of the hill, and there are lots of old bridges crossing the river, with a street market at the base of the hill, and across the bridges, away from hill, the uni. The city's symbol is a dragon, which you will see around town in various spots.Ljubljana, or "LJ" as it is known amongst the local scenesters, is apparently a very happening place-- kind of like Prague would have been if it hadn't been overrun by Americans.
Slovenia was the northernmost of the Yugoslav Republics, and is more Austrian than Yugoslav in character. The country has some beautiful mountains (a section of the Alps), and has a great outdoors and environmental tradition. I definitely would like to go back.
I'm taking a guess that they do.
By the way, a professor of mine asked me about it when I retiurned. He had backpacked through Yugoslavia when he was in college, and he asked me if it was just his impression, or if it's a fact, that "Yugoslavia" has some of the most beautiful women on Earth.
It's a fact.
At least until they hit 30.

If I were a young lad of 22 again, there's one thing I'd be sure to do differently-- I'd travel a hell of a lot more. Backpack to Ljubljana, that kind of thing. You're only young once, and traveling when you're young is different, 'cause at that age, you're meeting other young people in your travels.
Just a "if I could do it over again" thought from an old geezer, for what it's worth.

Yeah i loved it. Hostelling is a lot more fun than staying in hotels and you get to meet some amazing people (good and bad).

i would love to travel sometime in the foreseeable future (probably after i finish my useless history degree).
i'm surprised i haven't stepped outside North America, but i've promised myself in the next three years. here is hoping i can get a cush job and save up some money.

Money-- or more precisely, lack of-- is what's always gotten in my way. One suggestion: do a summer/semester/year abroad, let student loans/grants/whatever finance it.

I'm a huge fan of Laibach. I've seen them live twice and both shows were great. I highly recommend their latest album, WAT. It's all original material except for one song. Very upbeat and electronic-based.
I have also only managed to see them twice in ten years, and i think the last time i saw them was even better than the previous one. I just wish they would play the UK more.They were also selling loads of great merchandise at the last gig, but your pockets would have to have been much deeper than mine to get all the stuff i wanted.

Indeed. Really amazed me though how few tourists there were in Slovenia. Although they are a nation of polyglots, so i didnt have to grin and point at things i wanted in shops. The size of the place means you can theoretically be on an Adriatic beach, then 2/3 hours later be skiing in the Alps!!

No, nothing specific like that - I just meant that on that sort of holiday (backpacking and hostelling) you will meet all sorts of people from different backgrounds etc and you will find some to be sound and some to be wankers.
Love me some Laibach. I um... :shy: pre-German class in school swore that "Gubert Einer Nation"'s lyrics had to do with getting someone a light beer. 
No, seriously, the line "Gibt mir ein Leitbild", I totally thought that was some advertisement for light beer!
