Hard Drive?

My Lap Top has 30gb with a 250 gb external drive.

On my desktop I have a 80gb and a 120gb drive.

And they are nearly all full :(

A 40 gig with win2k pro installed and 2x160 gig for storage and apps. I still remember the day I bought my first 1gb hard drive and wondered how the fuck I was ever gonna fill it ;)

Drive C: = 120gb, WinXP Pro + all installed software. Drive D: = 160gb, My Documents folder + all my data, music etc.

I'm down to about 4gb on my D: drive since I discovered BitTorrent for getting the latest Stateside TV shows  saving up for a 300gb!

The Beast has a 180 GB. Room for more HDs. The SOny a 40 GB recently reformated (empty). 80 GB external full of NO boots.

Thinking about getting a pc solely dedicated to music.

I didn't realise we were doing the breakdown.....

DOS-XP machine....

C: 20GB, windows and all music apps and programs one needs to make windows tolerable. D: 60GB Games E: 75GB instrument sound banks, audio projects and a few GB kept free for those tiresome Big Jobs. F: whatever all that leaves when taken away from 200, to you and me, probably 45GB, but to windows god knows. Here I keep installers for essential apps along with My Documents and so on...anything I don't want to lose when I have to roll back a broken system.

Linux machine looks like this. If you know how unix handles partitions, all the better, but if you AREN'T Melly, think of each line as being C: d: e: and so on.

steve@hal9000 ~ $ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/hdd5 9.2G 8.3G 418M 96% / udev 379M 300K 378M 1% /dev /dev/hda8 3.9G 3.5G 233M 94% /home /dev/hda11 7.9G 7.4G 116M 99% /mnt/storage /dev/hdd7 37G 31G 4.0G 89% /mnt/play /dev/hdd6 28G 26G 546M 98% /mnt/work /dev/hda9 9.4G 7.9G 979M 90% /mnt/main /dev/hda7 6.0G 3.5G 2.3G 61% /mnt/landfill none 379M 0 379M 0% /dev/shm guz:/www 1.5G 1.4G 161M 90% /mnt/www guz:/mnt/shared/store 76G 74G 1.8G 98% /mnt/shared/store guz:/mnt/shared/media 94G 90G 4.6G 96% /mnt/shared/media guz:/home/steve 24G 22G 353M 99% /mnt/away

Fair dos. I suppose that I do at least have another similarly sized unit upstairs which I can use when necessary or if the mood takes me - I suppose technically I could use both at once... Although that would just be unnatural... What was the point of this thread again?

it was one of many of dell's "free upgrades" at the time. actually i don't know why they don't just make it part of their standard package. everytime i see their ads they read, if you buy now you'll get a free hard drive and monitor upgrade.

I've a 40 in Fred (the main machine) and a 20 and a 25 in Ginger, his mp3 server. I really don't need massive hard drives because even though I have a scary amount of data sitting on DVDs, I only keep what's currently necessary on either computer, and clean it all up every few weeks.

Though, with the same of 200g's for 100 @ the local office supply store, I may just have to go pick one up to shuttle into the server so I can free up a 25 gig'er for a computer I've been working on for a friend to learn on.

(Subsequently, the smallest hard disk I own is a 300 MB one out of an old 486-DX I owned back in the early 90s.)

160 GB, nearly as full as an egg.

I've got a 200 GB external drive as well, but I'm using it for back-up, so there's not much more free space on it.

looks like the worst bit is that we can't use animated gifs anymore, the one I got is of Scarlett being groped by that gay interviewer on some recent red carpet event. just doesn't translate very well now.....:(
