I don't think it's really his film. He didn't direct or produce it. His name's just on it, I believe. The reviews I read of it don't mention him in it at all.

Now, to stop your whining: Based on what I have heard, Hostel is great as it is gruesome. The preview scenes suggest someone's finger being hacked off with pliers. If you're into the macabre, then look no further: go see Hostel.

Just clocked your blog and - yes - you defo sound like a woman! I think if you read back through the comments BR picked up primarily, and cheekily, on the word fresh-man for the basis of his comments. It's not a phrase we use over here.

i watched wolf creek last night and was stupefied at the idiocy of the two women. *step closer and shoot* *crack open his head with the butt of the rifle, don't hit his back!* *turn the car around, play chicken and, at the last minute, jump out. it can't hurt! you've got nothing to lose anyway.* but all in all it wasn't that bad.
i then made it about a third of the way through hostel at which point i was too tired and had to turn it off. i'm finishing it this morning. i wasn't impressed by the beginning. first, i've never been to a coffee shop in amsterdam that was like that; they've all been extremely mellow. then again, maybe we just chose the ones that were extremely mellow. also, what annoyed me most was probably the statement that there were no men in bratislava 'because of the war.' did i miss something? did some war take place in slovakia of which i was unaware? yes, i am being pedantic, but things like this get to me. oh well, shit, it's a horror film. get me to the gore, damn it.
just finished it. totally f*cked. in a mengele sort of way. interesting idea; when i did the backpacking thing around europe lord knows i wanted to torture half the americans i came across on my trip, as well.
i liked the american 'hunter.' wasn't that the director?

definitely a tarantino moment, that whole scene.
i also liked how most of the violence was implied or done in shadow, much like the original texas chainsaw massacre film. it left more to the imagination.
the american hunter was scary. and there wasnt much left to the imagination in the...

you're right about the ending: they could've expanded on it. but it sure beat the first 1/2 of the film. i want my horror films to have some sort of build-up that is at least suspenseful.
as for the hunter, he was very tarantino. think of jimmie in pulp fiction: the manic behaviour, the paranoia. i thought the hunter was similar: entertaining...in a bizarre way, of course. 
i didnt think at the time but yeah the hunter scene was very tarantino .the guy has such a big weird scary face
Yeah some of the stuff in wolf creek was silly. Why hit him with the rifle when you can shoot the guy? But I still think maybe Wolf Creek was more of a mess-with-your-head film. Hostel is more of a mess-with-your-stomach film.
Not that one is necessarily better than the other. I was certainly impressed when our um, hero(?)finally arrives at ...that place where you could spend a lot money. They really created sonmething nightmarish there.
But for anyone who hasn't seen it. Go! (and eat your pop corn early on!)

she couldn't shoot him because it was a single-shot rifle and she couldn't get the bullets into the chamber (was too nervous). but hitting his back instead of cracking his head open? what a loser!

Well.....I'm off to the sleepy Czech town of Novy Jicin (via Brno) in 8 hours time. It's less than 30 minutes from the Slovak border. If anyone can forward me details of how to find this "Hostel" gaff I'll happily write a review when I get back on Sunday. Hope it's as good as it sounds 
I bought Eli Roth's CABIN FEVER a couple of years ago from NY,I actually liked it more on second viewing.It's a hoot! Want to see Hostel.

You could probably make the same argument for Leonard Part 6 if you really wanted to. I wouldn't sit through either one again.
