How much New Order on your HD? — Forum Archive

As I tediously watch network traffic copying gobs of gigs of NO to a new dedicated partition on the linux box (sleep well oh best band in the world, safe in the arms of tux)....and I wondered how much y'all have on your HD's?

Stuff on DVD's or CD's you can count I suppose, but I could not possibly give a figure as I aint got a clue how many I have. But score 700MB for a CD and 4.4GB for a DVD if you want to do that.

But really I want to know how big that holy directory (ahem, thats a folder winkidz) called Nu Oddah is.

I'll give you an accurate reading on mine shortly when the file copy stops.....that may be a minute or two cos it's copying from windows, but hey it's trying.....very VERY trying.

PS....I'd like to point out that I've bought every sodding thing they've made, many of them multiple times (barring a couple of compilations), so what I have I'm allowed to have ish.

(strangely it has dick to do with windows as such, cos some apps running in windows can burn the connection nicely, but ask windows for some files and you get about 40% of the speed possible)

Well I suppose it all depends on what rate you encode yer MP3s at (192-224 VBR for me). Anyhow, my New Order folder currently weighs in at:

7.29 GB (7,836,009,925 bytes)989 Files, 142 Folders

Add Electronic, Monaco, Revenge and Other Two to that and it's knocking around 10.2 GB apparently. I actually carry that amount of New Order around with me in my pocket but the downside is it shafts capacity for any other bands I might want to put on my iPod :eek:

I have a CD with 6-7 bootlegs [inc 2 JD] but not on this pc.

18.0 GB (19,365,032,865 bytes) 1,239 files in 114 folders all mp3 and flac live shows. Oh I have also bought just about everything they have ever made..Most on eBay ;)

Mostly live and dvds No mp3, most files flac

I have yet to back up my official release collection on HD

If not.. I have *drumroll* 106 Gigs of New Order on my hard drive. 6082 files.

Including DVD, CD, Bootlegs, everything....

And I'm sure I can check other folders to increase that.. I didn't include NOOL itself and the podcasts, etc ;)

How pathetic is that? :p

I could probably increase it a lot if I downloaded all the live bootlegs I have access to in FLAC format :lol:

surprisingly little. it is still all on cdrs and dvds. one of these days i'll tranfer it all for safe keeping.

I have a 200GB hard drive, and there's still nowhere near enough room for all ma neworder stuff.

I limit the disc space for MP3's only, so at the moment there's only about 10GB of neworder on here.

Incidentally, caught an advert last night for PC World, they are doing 320GB External Drives for £110. Which would be fucking great if I had a spare hundred notes!

a nice big eternal hard drive sounds the way to go. keep it all safe without clogging up the actual computer.

except of course that USB is neither IDE nor SATA, and therefor external drives are always arsey about doing a lot of stuff internals are not bothered by. FFS you can't boot from them, not much of a disk drive.

what would be the ideal solution. get a stand alone (no internet or anything fancy on it) computer just for storing media? don't put it beyond me.

i may just get a laptop and use this current unit for that, well eventually.
