Do you set personal goals in life?

I was having a drunken disscusion with a friend the other night and we we're talking about personal goals in life and apart from 2 goals i set myself years ago i've completed everything i've ever wanted to do...so far.

Every birthday i set aside an hour or two examine my life of the past year and set myself new goals.

Does anyone else set themselves targets in life?

I don't really , no.I just get through as best i can and try to learn from mistakes and stuff i've made.Maybe that in a way is my goal.Not to repeat mistakes i've made in relationships or whatever.

I've never been in to "moving up the social ladder" i.e. respectable job , house in a nice area etc.

I'm fairly content with my present location.My job is load of shit but then i see managers and people in higher positions and i don't like the crap i see they have to go through .ok , better money etc but i don't want a job i have to worry about when i come home

I've achieved some of my goals anyway which was to see some of the world and get my own place.Not that i'm sitting back now thinking there is nothing else to do but tings are ok at the moment

i guess one goal is to keep fit and healthy and touch wood i'm keeping up with that pretty well.A quick 15 minutes on the bicycle doesn't kill me like it would certain other people my age would

aside from killing threads, no. I think it's a good idea to set personal goals, though. Maybe that's one of the many things holding me back. I always feel like such a dick expressing myself or being assertive. Perhaps it's the way in which I go about it. Some tact might me in order.It's my life by Talk Talk instantly pops into my head followed by You Can't Always Get What You Want. Good for you. Do it. You clearly getting what you want from yourself.

No - things have always sort of fallen into place for me, I suppose - never intended to go into the career I'm in, never planned on buying a house so (relatively) young, never intended leaving where I do, never was overly fussed about being in a relationship... Never really intended spending so much time and posting so much crap on here :) I suppose the only thing I really want to do right now is make sure I get to Liverpool to see the Order in the autumn...

then again why should i set goals. i have things most people spend a life time working for. there' really not much lacking in my life. perhaps one thing, but i'm not desperate.

Sometimes setting goals isn't all that great.

This guy in my class at school started going out with a girl I know, and I heard him going on about how he had a "7 Point Plan" which ended with them doing the deed somewhere.

I thought that was really shitty and insensitive, so I told the guy to back off, but he didn't, so I just told my friend and she told him to fook off!!

Yeah, that's a pretty common trap to fall into (comparing yourself to someone famous). I remember when I first learned that John Lennon and I share the same birthday, I read all I could about him and started thinking of my life in terms of "what John Lennon was like" at that age.

Oddly enough, we have a lot in common (non-relationship with father, primarily raised by a relative nicknamed "Mimi", nearsightedness and weird drawing style, etc), so of course by the time I turned 19 I was all set to embark on the world of fame and fortune that Lennon and the group took on. I should have remembered that when he was 19, Lennon was playing dive bars in Hamburg for drunk customers

I'm twenty-six now, and at twenty-six John met Yoko. So compared to him, I have my whole life ahead of me :D

fcuk, that's creepy & awful. Nice job on your part though. Don't think that I have ever put anything on paper but sure have hopes , ideas, dozens of them. But nothing too structured.

short term ones....whenever I thought about what I wanted to do in 5 years-things would be so fliuid I could not keep it..

I can get so anxious I will feel like a failure if I am not progressing towards my goals. So I stopped focusing so tightly. At this point I would like to get a job being a teacher's asst with elementary school kids.

oh and romance? It will happen. The time you are not pursuing it..things just drop in your lap

Had my whole life planned out in High School. Seemed fail-proof. "Seemed" being the key word. Had many different plans, that just fell through by life's dumb luck. Usually have a plan. At the moment I have only one: getting out of the military next year. Haveno idea what I want to do for a career after, but working on it. Seems I only know what I don't want to do.

Plans for marriage, family, and mortgage are already set though.

Also decided to do a parachute jump for my 30th and run a marathon.

Next is to learn a language (either Spanish, Italian or Russian).

Also want to travel the world at some point.

Always, recent achievements in the last year: Successfully cut down on drinking Can now balance on one leg in yoga poses Finally caught Hooky's drum stick :)

Lots of little small goals, like shaving a few seconds off lap time to getting a few more reps in, to getting a promotion within x years, and things like that. I don't do anything without a specific aim, even down to that stupid Hammer Throw game.

I suppose I do have some big longer-term goals, but they are very general rather than quantifiable, and I've already achieved all my childhood goals.

Well let me see then.In the last year i have got fitter than i EVER have been in my entitre life,cut out drinking 7 days a week to 2-3 times a MONTH.Got to a point where i could ALMOST give up working again and now trying to make a quick £100,000.But as long as i have some GOOD days and become a better father than i have been for a few years i don't have MUCH ambition.I LOVE going out walking and NEW ORDER are OK but no big deal.And i try to keep a good sense of HUMOUR.But sometimes LIFE's a BITCH.But i can LOOK a lot of people in the eye without REGRET!

OXX ORANGE/RED that are a present from my EX for walking her dog and caring for it until NEW YEARS EVE 2005.That DOG was my whole life and i am a bit lost without her.I still see my EX seven days a week though.Some things are hard to give up.But i ain't all BAD just fcuking MAD!
