Shed Worship wrote: What else did yer buy Ron ?

i got these goodies today.

my jackpot would have to be a jetstream promo for $4. i know its crap, but still a very cheap promo.

other items i picked up are the hacienda classics, round and round 12#, a new us blt 12#, something called the blue monday slinder remix, and a movement t-shirt.

i did also see a love will tear us apart 12# for $160. it looks exactly like the one i got many years ago for about $10. no i did not buy that item.

we are discussing new order in the shed. what's going on here?

so i now have all 12# vinyl up to the end of the technique period with two exceptions.

for some reason until recently, i think it was monetary i only bought cds after fine time.

they were in shrink wrap and unmarked, that' for the r&r 12#s. i'm leaving the remix one unroped now. i have the cd singles anyway.

is it still minty mint if i open it? the normal r&r 12# single was double shrink wrapped and when i opened it a factory australia catalogue of 1989 vintage fell out. i'd say it was minty mint until i opened it.

Shed Worship wrote:

What do you suggest Steve?

Any....as long as....

they are a true ISP ( services like AOL and compuserve are not, they go beyond that).

They do not supply a USB "modem". With the exception of a few which emulate an ethernet connection via USB (and are not bad) these are host controlled or "WIN" modems, nothing but a soundchip...they rely on your computer's OS, drivers and processor to "finish the job" of turning squealing noises into useful network data. The upshot is, that if your cpu is busy, your networking goes wrong, and vice versa....they also tend to use horrid drivers which cause most if not all net problems. best bet is buy a nice standalone ethernet modem before you start....I'm not saying they never screw up....but being an autonomous system, they don't take out all the computers in the house and you can simply restart the modem (the old fashioned way of yanking the power cord, they never have power switches it seems) without also retsarting your computer.

They do not require dialer software....again..windows is perfectly capable of running a network connection on it's own, anyone who feels the need to augment that with a big "click here to connect to the internet" button, is not to be trusted.

They have no exotic requirements of their users....some dialer software runs distributed computing software.... like setathome, but you have no idea what the numbers being crunched are for.

They do not block ports, pages or anything else beyond obvious spam. You pay for your connection, anyone who says you can't run games on it or a local mailserver or anything you bloody like, should not get your money.

Take it from me, the same considerations one has when setting up a linux system on the net, also automatically make for a happy windows box too.

23 sheds robbed, in West Oxfordshire Borrowed oxford mail Article Thieves have been on the rampage in West Oxfordshire burgling 23 garden sheds and outhouses in the past fortnight. Police are now urging residents in villages such as Shipton-under-Wychwood to be on their guard and more security conscious. Investigating officers say that entries, on most occasions, have been messy breaking wood and causing a lot of damage. The offenders only appear to have taken items that are reasonably easy to carry, leaving expensive lawn mowers. Bill Butcher, crime reduction advisor for Thames Valley Police, said: "Criminals like an easy life, so don't give it to them. While you are having a spring clean of your garden shed think about marking and securing the items.

Jesus! Its scary.. I think we should all take the advice of “Bill Butcher” he seems to know the score!

They are in my blogspot site. However, the posts contain some objectionable material. I think you guys can understand though. Welcome to my college life.

Just a thought Cozzie, but from a personal point of view, you may get far more interest in your blogs if they were written, rather than audio blogs, the time it takes to download etc, one can bore easily, so before those who are genuinely interested in what you have to say, are bored before they have even started listening!

Lucy, are you on dial-up? Is it really that slow to download my posts?

I'll make a text post about my rant to make this up. :thumb:

No, broadband, but the thing is I usually have so much to do that even a couple of minutes downloading stuff really irritates me. Not to mentioned being pestered by kids when listening to stuff. It is sometimes more private in my circumstances to read a blog rather than listen, especially if the material is not suitable for 6 and 8 year olds!!

Well done.

Brilliant article in today's Sunday Herald about legendary AC/DC frontman Bon Scott and his birthplace Kirriemuir:

The quiet town of Kirriemuir is finally celebrating the dirty deeds of its legendary rock son, AC/DC’s Bon Scott

Tom Shields

KIRRIEMUIR is famous for its gingerbread. It is famous as the home of the creator of Peter Pan (that’s JM Barrie, by the way, and not Walt Disney). On Saturday, Kirriemuir celebrates the fact that it is the birthplace of Bon Scott, the late and great lead singer with AC/DC. An engraved paving stone will be unveiled in the town’s Cumberland Close hailing Ronald Belford “Bon” Scott (born Kirriemuir July 9, 1946) as the “world’s greatest rock’n’roll legend”. I am no expert on exactly where Bon Scott stands in the pantheon of rock singers, but AC/DC are in the top five best-selling bands of all time, which makes him famous enough to be getting on with.

Australia, where the Scott family emigrated to when Bon was only six, certainly holds him in high regard. His grave in Fremantle has been named a national heritage site, putting it up there with Ayers Rock and the Great Barrier Reef. Where the Aussies enthuse about Bon (the nickname is an abbreviation of Bonnie, as in Scotland) there is a hint of reticence in Kirriemuir. You get the feeling Scott is only on the B-list of well-known Kirriemarians and does not have access-all-areas.

The town is already on the literary map with Sir James Matthew Barrie, so why make a fuss about a rough rock singer? Bon was something of a bad boy. He did time in Fremantle prison and borstal for stealing petrol and giving a false name to the police. There was a spot of unlawful carnal knowledge along the way.

He was chucked out of the Australian army for being “socially maladjusted”. These are solid credentials for a rock singer on the Highway To Hell but unlikely to impress in doucest Angus. You can understand the reluctance of some Kirriemarians to buy into the AC/DC vision of rock as music “to fight, fornicate and drink by”. That phrase should contain a shorter F-word than fornicate, by the way.

Bon Scott and fellow AC/DC songwriters Angus and Malcom Young had a talent for penning louche lyrics. On their Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap LP there is a gem called Big Balls with this stanza: “Some balls are held for charity and some for fancy dress/But when they’re held for pleasure, they’re the balls that I like best/My balls are always bouncing to the left and to the right/It’s my belief that my big balls should be held every night.”

This ditty is reminiscent of a far more famous filthy song, The Ball O’ Kirriemuir. You will recall the four-and-twenty virgins who came doon frae Inverness and when the ball was over there were four-and-twenty less. The ballad has many verses, almost all unprintable here, describing orgiastic behaviour worthy of a rock singer.

The song is apparently based on a ball at Kirriemuir which was in reality a pretty staid event. Over the years versifiers with vivid imaginations have speculated on how various trades people and residents might have behaved. We can’t do the verse about the village pervert who was only there to watch, but might get away with the village masochist. He was there, begging for a blow; the sadist merely looked at him and cruelly answered, No.

For a town whose motto is Jamais Arriere (never behind), Kirriemuir appears somewhat backwards at coming forward in the matter of exploiting its AC/DC connection. The town museum had an exhibition of Bon Scott memorabilia last year but there is little sign of ongoing catering for the increasing number of AC/DC fans who wend their way to Kirriemuir.

The location of Bon Scott’s family home, which would be a logical place of pilgrimage for rockers, is kept something of a secret. The current residents don’t relish the prospect of a constant stream of visitors to their door. The shop which once housed the Scott family bakery is now a clothing store and AC/DC aficionados are directed to it. The company specialises in T-shirt printing and embroidering but has shied away from doing Bon Scott items for fear of infringing copyright.

Now, if I were a Kirriemarian entrepreneur, I would be selling gingerbread in the shape of AC/DC’s striking logo. There would be Bon Scott T-shirts, kilts, bagpipes (he was a piper as well as a rocker) and sporrans. There would even be Bon Scott Big Haggis Balls.

There is a precedent. For last year’s exhibition, a local confectioner did a statue of Bon Scott in rock. There were also sticks of the stuff lettered with the words Let There Be Rock. The only AC/DC merchandising I saw on my wee trip to Kirrie was a Bon Scott engraved whisky glass – which is appropriate since he liked a drink.

Actually, drink was the death of him. He was found dead in the back seat of a car in London in 1980, having choked on his own vomit after a night on the tiles. It was a kind of Scottish, Australian, rock singer way to go. Kirriemuir is twinned with the French town of Volvic, renowned for its mineral water. If Bon had stuck to the Volvic, he might have been at next week’s unveiling. Then, in July, he would have been 60 and qualified for his bus pass.

The initiative to honour Bon came from Dave Milne, a rock fan who is a member of the Kirriemuir community council. The concept was born over a few pints with some fellow devotees of AC/DC. “I had the idea when we had the beer goggles on,” Dave admits, “but the morning after it still seemed like a good thing to go for.”

What pleases Dave Milne most is the way the youth of Kirriemuir have became involved in the Bon Scott memorial day. Seven local bands will play at the concerts in the town hall after the unveiling of the stone. There is a lively association called DD8 Music, named after the town’s postcode, dedicated to nurturing talent and ensuring that the quiet of Kirriemuir is occasionally rent with rock.

Dave Milne and his fellow rockers have been working on the Bon Scott project for a year. They appear to have sparked off a bit of memorial stone mania in Kirriemuir.

Three eminent Kirriemarians have been fast-tracked to be remembered ahead of Bon Scott. Paving stones were unveiled last Saturday in memory of Sir JM Barrie, Sir Charles Lyell and Sir Hugh Munro. Lyell was a botanist and geologist and mentor of Charles Darwin. Munro gave his name to those Scottish hills over 3000ft that climbers are so keen to bag.

So, when Bon Scott’s Caithness stone is installed, he will find himself surrounded by three old barts. It may be the Kirriemuir establishment’s way of keeping the rocker in his place.

We will leave the last words on Bon Scott to Glenn Baker, an Australian rock writer who knew the man and said: “Bon really was a sweet man. He was warm, friendly and uncommonly funny. He did not breathe fire, pluck wings off flies or eat children whole. And while his daunting stage persona of lascivious leers and blood curdling howls was by no means fraudulent, it was most certainly a professional cloak that could be worn at convenient moments.”

Bon was a caring man. His advice to Angus Young, lead guitarist with AC/DC, was: “Whatever I do, you don’t.” Angus is the wild-looking guy who wears a school uniform and thrashes about the stage. But he’s a quiet guy offstage who prefers a cup of tea to anything stronger.

As does his brother Malcolm, AC/DC rhythm guitarist. Angus and Malcolm were both born in Glasgow. Maybe we should do a plaque for them as well.

bloody hell, despite starting at the back of the grid on a track I've barely driven before, AND using a setup for Spa Francorchamps with a few transmission tweaks...I managed to win. Had a tough time with Sir Jack Brabham, they don't call the cunt black jack for nothing, he NEARLy had me off. Last 2 laps were a nightmare with at least 3 cars with mechanical trouble cruising round hoping to pick up points....rear ended two of them, one of whci bumped me down to 2nd for a lap....morons.
