For anyone who's interested, my daughter and her friend had the chance to meet Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup - for those who don't know, two of the Ford drivers.
I love this photo - my daughter (the one with the red hair) is with Jamie Whincup.

nice photo.
BTW Cambo V8 supercars is our touring car series now. it sprang up after the failure of group A here. we cannot have four cylinder ford sierras beat 5 liter V8 holdens now can we. frankly i miss group A. those cars at least still had some relevance to showroom cars. the current series is more of a silhouette series. both holden and ford run us 5 liter V8s. you can not buy a 5 liter V8 from holden or ford. holden sells you a 6 liter and ford a 5,4 liter.
Was it ever REALLY Gp A tho? Cos BTCC machines was legal in Aussie tourers and they're way off gp A or were at the time...they're much more GP A now. I dunno what the homolagation (sp?) rules are these days, but the last generation of BTCC cars were closer in spec to the GpB tourers of the 80's (and thank God that never took off....fuckin alfaromeo tintop with a brabham alfa f1 engine LOL) than anything else.
The V8's were around at the same time as supertourers tho surely? they just got promoted to the premier series.
I've not seen much of them, they are always on the telly I should make an effort to watch. Particularly Bathurst, that's a truly evil bit of road...killed at least 2 F1 drivers by heart failure alledgedly....but I think that might have been IN F1 cars, wasn't mount panorama used in Tasmin F1?
lol - they were both only 14 then - but then I still remember the saga with was it Bill Wyman and Mandy Smith?
Dirty old bastard.

we had group c all V8 big bangers, then in 1986 it went group A. holden had build only 500 specials to qualify. that just didn't take hold. if you can get a hold of the 1987 ( i tink it was 87) bathurst race. nail biter right to the end. peter (perfect)brock almost caught the leading sierra right up to the second last lap when a broken conrod did him in. can't beat it low tech V8 v high tech european. that was a great race.
from memory holden had to slightly decrease the capacity of the V8 to qualify under Group A rules.

Suddenly very glad that my reaction was "awm she's pretty" not anything less wholesome :D

Nowhere on earth, not even death valley, has earned it's name like conrod straight.....seen an audi send one more or less through the bonnet which was really impressive. Truly insane in a historic F1 car in GPL, it's before the chicane went in at the end, and you're flat all the way to the corner onto the S/F straight...and even sitting in an arm chair looking at a screen, I am crapping it, terrified to move the wheel in case the bugger takes off or something.

for group a gm holden still used locally made V8s, ford gave up and used sierras.
now both use american V8s. now it is nothing more than nascar with different bodies.
the cars now actually lap at bathurst faster than before the chicane went in.
I enjoyed watching the V8 Supercar series when it was shown on the Speed Channel here in the states, even if it did come on at weird hours. It sucks that Speed dropped their coverage a few years ago of the V8 Supercars and then this year also dropped their coverage of the WRC ![]()

14??? Probably going on 30 I imagine. Must be a bit of a hand full. Not looking forward to when my daughter reaches that age. Sure she will be fine, just not looking forward to all the guys coming around.
As for the races, watched a couple on the Speed channel while working on my Pontiac. . .good stuff.

You wait. Hope you've go your gun loaded.
She turned 15 a month ago and she has a 19 year old interested in her. She's too bloody mature for her own good!! I am really lucky though as both the girls are really good kids, sensible and good at school (don't know how I was blessed with two good ones). And the other one is 17 by the way ![]()
19???!!!! Wow!!!! You're not kidding when you say have a gun at the ready!
Have a few plans ready: One is something I did years ago to protect my little sister. While I was waiting for this guy, that I knew was up to no good, to show up, I would stand in the front yard with a baseball bat hitting it many times over with full force. The guy showed up, asked me what I was doing, said, "what's it look like? I'm hitting the treewith abaseball bat". He picked up my sister, as he was walking off yelled at him, "better have my sister back in time, and treat her well!" Guy went a on date, dropped her off on time and never showed up again.
Second one happened to me on a date. Father sat me down for a talk. Then said, "See that box on the shelf over there? Go get it." I got the nice oak box, sat down. Father told me to open, so I did. Inside was this chrome/gold plated semi-automatic pistol, some sort of special edition. Father said, "you know that pistol is worth $12,000. However, if I fire one bullet it looses it's value by$8,000. . .I sure hope I never have to fire a round through it. Ok, you can put it on the shelf now." That had to be the best one a father ever did to me.
Any other good ideas from down-under?

Watched the 3rd race from the Perth 400 last night, great stuff. Lowndes is a very impressive chap.
those cars really are the result of interbreeding between a Nascar and a BTCC supertourer LOL.
Mad seeing Richards and McConville still racing, been SO long since I first hear those names.

Far out, that father sounds like a complete asshole!! Bet you never went out with his daughter again.
I have no good ideas like that unfortunately.
The only thing I can say is to have a good relationship with your kids and try and keep the lines of communication open. I talk to mine alot and I have always told them to come to me with any problems etc etc.
Failing that, use the gun.

Glad you enjoyed the race, Cambo. Lowndes is actually a very down to earth fellow, endears himself to racegoers.
My daughter hates Mark Skaife. From what I know from other people he thinks his "shit doesn't stink"!

Skaife's an apex blocking git, in the BTCC Lowndes woulda just driven into his driver's door and sorted it out once and for all :D
Speaking of which Aussie tourers used to be WORSE than BTCC, but the V8's a rea very clean series it seems. FWD tourers: where you end up when you get kicked out of every civilized race series. Didn't know Tom (jabba) walkinshaw was running a team down there, I wondered where he got to since Bernie and Max kicked him out of F1 for basically taking the piss (his team was broke and were showing up at races and doing the minimum required to keep their entry open, like 2 laps on a sat morning or something)...Seen him yelling at folks in the pits.

walkinshaw has been involved in the V8s here since almost the beginning of group A. the HSW team was his. his interpretation of what the second VL commodore should be is still referred to as the wankinshaw, because of all those rediciulous spoilers and body kit.
since her went bust a couple of years ago, i think skaife actually owns the HSW team.
I never knew it was actually TWS that went bust, just arrows F1...then again I shoulda knows I have not seen him running ANYTHING in the UK at all since Arrows (which was his team to start with back in the 70's or 80's when it started, He's the "ws" as far as I can remember).
Reminds me of martin brundle upong seeing Jos Gravetrap verstappen park an arrows neatly in 59 pieces in a wall at the indy road course...."oh Jos, I know why you're in not hurry, I've crashed a few of Mr walkinshaw's cars and he's a fearsome sight when you get back to the pits"

Barnette, Actually I didn't mind it at all. What it showed me was a father that cared about the well-being of his daughter. The threat was obviously an empty threat, but that bit of question kept me thinking. What I saw behind it was that the daughter was probably of good "quality", and worth a possible relationship, not a quicky in the back seat. If her father cared about her that much, she probably also had good parenting growing up.
The polar opposite experience I had was a father that led me to his study and tried to force me to accept a condom from him on the first date. Though I assured him nothing would happen like that, he wouldn't stop until i took it. That night, when I dropped her off at her house, I gave her a kiss goodnight, but I'll I could think while kissing her was her dad egging me on in my mind saying, "GO FORIT! DO IT!!". Dropped her off and never saw her again.
Guess with my experiences and my charactor, I was looking more for relationships and not a roll in the hay, and the threatening didn't scare me away since my main concern wasn't the wrong intentions.

Ditto.
Ever since Speed was bought by Fox, you can't get away from NASCAR.
Remember the good old days of Speedvision??????:\ohwell:
No more: WRC V8 Supercars Boating Shows Airplane shows Cool European "car magazines" showing the likes of a Lorinser CL 500 being thrown around a tight circuit. British Touring Car racing European RallyCross (with RS 200's!!!)
A yank who understands BTCC and WRC, impressive....buy a fucking car and get yer arse out of the states, you could beat Scott Speed. ![]()

The old speed channel was the one of the reasons I upgrade to digital cable 3 years ago so I could watch the racing that I liked to watch.
Now with all the Nascar stuff on there, I hardly every watch speed channel anymore except when they are showing F1.
