I am sure every nooler has its own nick-name-history. Me too - since I use internet I had a few:

  1. arab (actually it was my real nick from college)
  2. parek (very stupid)
  3. gpx (nothin special)
  4. lara croft (Iam proud of it)

:confused2:

I don't think I've ever had a nickname that caught on, not that I can remember anyway. I did try to call myself Blade Steel (this was well before the Blade movies came out) mostly as a joke, but that didn't catch as well as I would have liked.

The usual real-name derived ones, which are all pretty boring (Dav, Tando, Mr T., etc) and Snorri/Snorrimon, which until the advent of the Shed used to be my username for most online stuff...

I wondered if was supposed to indicate some sort of 'coming of age' or growing up...

On the internet I have been Psylocke since 1992 when I first started to play an online mud.

At one job a few years ago, my coworkers nicknamed me Radar, since I had a bad habit of getting them paperwork or the material to complete their jobs before they asked me to get it for them.

  1. Strange... Has it anything to do with the new government in Poland ?
  2. I confirm, very stupid. Has it the same meaning than in Czech ? Je to žert ?

Mine...

  1. Jean-Phi
  2. Judas (because my friends felt let down when I started to be interested in girls... but it was in their minds only)
  3. Ian (because Jean is difficult to say in most foreign languages - in fact, there is only two languages in the world : French language and foreign language, which includes a lot of dialects, sadly unintelligent to most of the French...) + I am tall + I have a low voice + I like JD + I hate sportwear - easy to make the link in these underdevelopped minds...
  4. JP that I especially dislike for it can mean Jean-Paul, Jean-Pierre, Jean-Patrick and more...
  5. Any Jean-something because some people seem not to remember that my real name is Jean-Philippe. So, once they make the mistake, calling me Jean-something else than Philippe, I pretend my name is another Jean-something (the list can be long). And as soon as they remember well my real false name, I say they are confused and I change it again... So sometimes I get lost too !... i.e. "Salut Jean-Paul (error because I am Jean-Philippe)" so I reply "No, no, my name is Jean-François. No offense". Then later "Salut Jean... erm François". Me : "Jean-François ? What an odd idea, my name is Jean-Baptiste !!!" Later on... "Salut Jean-Baptiste !" (the man showing an outrageous self-confidence) Me : "Jean-Baptiste ??? Who told you my name is Jean-Baptiste ? My name is Jean-Michel !!!" and so on and so on until everybody gets crazy...

There goes:

  • wonka, the main one and this one derives from my name Iwona and that's how my friends call me, as a cute short for my name (it has nothing to do my addiction to chocolate:brow: )
  • nordynka - this one is comes from the polish cartoon which was screened (ermmm???) somewhere in the middle of nowhere with really cold winter conditions. It's all about bunch of mates living there ans helping each other out (the usual cartoon plot) and the main charachter, a cute bear (kolargol), have a cute missus and her name is nordynka:blush: . Apart from wonka this is the second perfect nickname for me as i LOVE the winter and the colder it gets, the better, oh yes!
  • being a girl - is taken from Mansun's genius LP 'Six' which i love to bits and 'Being a Girl' is one of my fav songs on it. And it sounds cute an' all
  • girl afraid - last but not least comes from tara!!! The Smiths discography so no surprise here..

OK, if we're getting all explainy......

The Goonden, is a mispelling of "gundan" which is some sort of eternal gaurdian robot from a Dr Who episode called Warrior's Gate....I hardly remember anything about them except Tom Baer yelling "stop that Gundan" and me and my mate brad having to pause the tape for an hour to laugh. For months it became synonymous with "fucking idiot"...and "GUNDAN!!!!!!!!!" would often be yelled during late night playstation frenzies.

Moonwatcher, was the first ape to be interfered with by the Monolith in 2001. In the film it makes no sense, but in the book...well......it basically describes the poor monkey having his very own night out at the hacienda....and thus became the first proto human.

USed to have a bassamp called "cynthia the slut"...was hilarious cos it was all I ever called it and it just worked into people's heads so you would hear really straight engineers saying stuff like "don't forget we'll need a D.I. for Cynthia" LOL.

You might want to bury it, but there has got to be a good story behind that one :shades:

After indulging during a night out I've been known to spend a stupidly long time relating the simplest of stories. Once a friend asked me about the Naggers thing and it took me forever to explain after which he said, F*ck me, the last thing you need is more gear.

My middle sister still suspects she's adopted, after enduring years of me telling her she was when she got on my nerves.

Best thing is, at Christmas she always ends up with the chipped plate - it's the family joke now. (Not a funny one admittedly)

Fookinell, between me and Jeff we must have chalked up dozens of names on here!

Started off with me real name, for some strange reason. Then metamorphosised into Fred West, after ATR accused me of looking like him. Then Erick East (pun on Frederick West) after I got banned when Seb got a bit moderation crazy, when I managed to reappear without anyone noticing. Then Benny's Cobweb Eyes after a particularly memorable Fall lyric. Then Detweiler, after TJ Detweiler in the cartoon Recess, then oldmonkey after my wife told me I was an old monkey one night for some long-forgotten reason. Also a very short spell as Goop - which is a severe case of moop, which in itself is a bad dose of meep. You don't want to know!

lol .! . Only one that stuck for more than a few weeks was Aero when we were in grade school after a school exchange, a friend had a trampoline and between too many afternoons and evening on that combined w/ free-night swims out at the University Pool they took to calling me Aero(dynamic)? and used to run so it got transferred over to that. : / very rebellious lot in school.

My longest serving web one is Reformed Tart;Had it years and it's STILL my email....don't half get some funny looks when I give it out in job interviews etc:eek3: Other than that stunning minx, manc minx and variations of. when I'm in the real world I'm Em or Bob or Bitch or even fraggle (think that all says more about my mates than me...tee hee)

First appeared under my proper name Mark McKinley - which then alternated between that and Mark The Macc (cos I considered myself a plastic Macc Lad having settled in Tytherington just north of the town and taught at the local college - even though I spent most of my younger days in Morecambe after moving over from the Isle of Man with the rest of our family - so I'm Manx born originally, just like the Bee Gees - haa! haa! haa! haa!).

I then changed it to "By 'Eck! My Neck!" cos having spent most of my life in Lancashire everyone around me used to always say that anyway, so I thought I'd just take the piss and do a Lisa Stansfield. ;)
