I've stupidly just been fleeced twice on Ebay.

I sold two mobile phones to two separate people and both have ripped me off. Basically i advertised the phones and with each phone the seller contacted me personally to ask if i would consider sending to Africa. I said yes provided i had confirmation of the payment with a bit extra for posting abroad.

On both occasions i received a really official looking email from Paypal telling me that they had received payment from the seller and would release it to me as soon as i confirmed the shipping number.

Turns out both of these were fake, and as a result i'm now down to the tune of £200. I feel really stupid but if you saw the email from Paypal you would be convinced it was genuine.

I just want to warn you all in case any of you get stung for this.

I would copy what i have replied to their personal email but even i'm ashamed at what i've said!

My father bought a laptop computer on ebay last year, and instead received a used book in the mail! This was over $1,000, so you can imagine how pissed he was. Things looked bleak for recovering his money (apparently it's pretty tough to track these scum down if they know what they're doing), but after a few months, with some help from the police nad FBI, they did find him and my dad got his money back. Bottom line, be very careful on ebay. Pay attention to those buyer/seller ratings they post!

I've ripped a few people off on EBay.

Most people just roll over and take it - if anyone complains I just send a nice note and send them the goods. Otherwise I just trouser the cash and advertise the thing again in a few months.

One bloke 'bought' the same Wham cd three times. I sent it to him in the end. Well, a copy of it.

I luckily have had mostly good dealings on eBay. A couple of times things didn't go the way they should have but I've always been able to work it out amicably.

I'll know not to buy any CDs off Diamond White, though.

There`s something wrong there. Internet Explorer should had close the window with a message error when you typed "Wham".

I got realy badly fleeced on ebay.I sent a bloke in Salford £20 for a copy of Slags Slates & Tapes by The Fall.Eventualy i received it through the post,only to find to my disgust that it was nothing like music whatsoever.My God you can't trust anyone on ebay these days!!!!

Sorry to hear about this Jem. Spotick was (ahem) Spot on about sending things to Africa esp. if it's technical gadgetry.

Soemthing in the news lately about computers. Basically if you get rid of one don't forget to format your hard-drive. A great deal of scrapped PC's end in in Nigeria. People have been accessing hard drives and been able to get all your passwords, bank details etc. BBC guy recently went out to Lagos and bought about 70 hard-drives. Through accessing these, he eventually tracked down one guy back here in Blighty. After approaching him and asking if he minded being filmed etc. he basically told this guy his own life story over the last 3 years inc. the date he bought 2 rabbits and there names as well as much more personal stuff and his online banking details.

Needless to say, this guy was flabbergasted.

The thing is many people forget about how much personal stuff is stored on mobile phones these days as well. I work for a mobile network provider. A former colleague showed me a phone which was returned to her to check if it was faulty and discovered some VERY saucy and explicit text messages from someone who appeared to be a bit on the side.....shame it wasn't a camera phone really
