you're not a day late--right on time. 5767 began last night at sundown and continues until today.

Forgive me for being totally ignorant. Is there any reason Ramadan begins at the same time?, or is it just coincidence?

coincidence, as both judaism and islam use the lunar calendar, so the holidays change dates from year to year.
