I picked up todays shopping flyers. They told me i need to buy the new Killer's album "Sam's Town". I can only imagine that a bunch of NO fans think they are rip off artists. Still I liked Hot Fuss and am excited to go get this one. Earlier this year I was excited about the new keane album. 2 bad that one did not work out. I like the first song...(album title) Has anyone heard the whole thing?

The single was a ridiculous U2/Springsteen/Meat Loaf mess. It was slickly produced which is about the best compliment I can muster if you can call it a compliment.
They don't have an original bone in their collective bodies as a band. All their musical ideas so far have been blatant rip offs. They don't go away between albums and think "how can we do something different?" they just go away, select an artist they like (in this case Springsteen) and rip that style off to buggery; clever eh?
The lead singer has no stage presence and sings every song in the exact same way I.e. foghorn. Plus have you seen his 'tache? He seems to have forgotten to grow the middle of it.
The Killers are my pet hate of the year basically 
I dunno why they fuck me off so much but they just do! 
I've heard half of it on the radio and its a big bag of fucking shite.
Besides, Brandon said it will be seen as one of the most important albums of the last 25 years.

My position on the Killers is this: I have no opinion one way or the other.
I mean, I see why people hate them, but everything I've heard is passable at the worst, sometimes catchy at best. They're harmless poseurs, really. A bit tacky, a bit overdone, but nothing that I would storm the radio station, slam the DJ's head through the soundproof glass, and burn the building down over. Now if we're talking Hootie and the Blowfish...the streets would run red with the blood of infidels 
But I can take 'em or leave 'em when it comes to the Killers, I just can't be bother to hate or like them. Though I will say "When You were Young" is insanely catchy

Haven't really taken any notice of Brandon Flowers ramblings and I don't even recall seeing a photo of the band
Although I did give my 10 year old God daughter a copy of NewOrder Singles and she said, "Dad can have it, I like The Killers"

Personally, I dont like the album. I think its very badly produced and doesnt compare to the 1st album.
They're a band for first year students trying to get into "indie" music. File next to Kaiser Chiefs and The Fratellis.

They definately are rip off artists, but then they promote (in a round-about way) NO, which ensures NO's music doesn't drop off the planet after us old-foogies are dead and gone. We have a bunch of teenagers on this site, and my guess is that many of them were introduced to NO by bands like the Killers.

I agree that they are rip offs. However, I discovered NO before The Killers, unlike my classmates. Actually, I had to explain NO/JD to them. Even though the record stores in the college town sell NO/JD albums, people ask me, "Who? Never heard of them." I can't believe I'm in the South, where people are missing out on some good music.

A lot of young people have been turned on to Joy Division in the last five years...within the next five, NO will either be experiencing their own resurgence or it just won't happen. '78-'81/'82 has been a goldmine for a bunch of British and American (mostly NYC) bands, and that has turned the kids onto Gang of Four, Mission of Burma, JD, and PiL among others. Obviously the trend will move forward. But I wouldn't seriously credit the Killers for anything NO-related; their desire is to crossbreed Springsteen and U2, which is just horrid.
i had it in my car all day as i drove around, 1 catchy song and the other 14 left few lasting impressions, kind of like there first album. oh well an interesting side note in a collection of 30k songs.

the main reason I considered killers linked to NO is because that's where their name came from in the first place. With a link like that, it will obviously make many Killers fans try out NO.

OK folks I got it myself now... And I'm shocked... After Track nine I had to turn it off. What the hell did Brandon Flowers with his voice? He doesn't seem to hit a single note... Perhaps this album has to grow in my ears first, but my first impression is that a new one-hit(album)-wonder was born...

I understand that point, but I'm just skeptical that the average Killers fan is going to care much, or even recognize, that the group got their name from NO. In fact, most people I know who are somewhat familiar with both groups don't draw a connection between them. In America the emphasis the press make is on the U2 influence, so the connection is more with a group that already unimaginitively frisked both the PiL and JD/NO catalogues for ideas.

I also go along with Tabsy's assessment, I didn't mind the songs I heard from the first album on the radio.... but the ones from the new one I've heard had me changing the channel.

I managed to catch the Killers on SNL, but it was the second song they performed that night (the big single, the one that's actually not half bad, I must've missed because there's really nothing worth watching for on SNL anymore). I had to turn it, whatever it was, it was terrible. 
So I'm not casting doubt on the "one good song and a bunch of shitty ones" quotes so far
But they're still harmless. In a world where Paris Hilton can release an album, there are worse things than trying to turn into U2-Steen-Order :p
I really liked Hot Fuss, so I was eager to hear the new one.
I'm sorely disappointed. It's like they took all the worst pretentious over-the-top power rock tracks of the 80s and smashed them together. And what the fuck happened to Flowers' voice?

This album has some great singles (When You Were Young is one of my favorite songs so far this year), but isn't as good as Hot Fuss (which in itself was an album w/ amazing singles surrounded by some average songs).

I'm not sure why they chose the album name, but considering they are from Vegas, and Sam's Town is a chain of casinos (one in Vegas, two in the South) you can see why they may have chosen such a name. Anyways, the name could be worse, like imagine if it were called Tesco :P
