.Matt Damon has secret dreams to go where William Shatner boldly went before him - and bring Captain James Kirk back to the big screen in the next Star Trek movie.

The actor admits he hasn't been offered the part in Lost creator and Mission: Impossible 3 director JJ Abrams' sci-fi blockbuster, but he's game to play a young Kirk.

Shatner, who played Kirk in the original Star Trek TV series has said he believes the role is "uncastable" because no one could match his iconic performance, but he has reportedly had a change of heart - and has given Damon his blessing.

And internet rumours suggest Abrams thinks the Good Will Hunting star would be perfect for the part.

Now, Damon tells Sci-Fi Wire, "I heard that (rumour). I think JJ Abrams or somebody said that at a press junket or something, and it got picked up. If the script was good, I'd do it."

He means they couldn't possibly find someone who'll act as badly as he did

Hasn't there been too many Star Trek films already? Its not as if there hasn't been one for 20+ years. This current 'trend' for 're-starting' a franchise is getting out of hand.

Ok,it worked with Batman and less so with Superman, but Star Trek (to me) is out dated now,and just seems a waste of time.

No way! Not Matt Damon! :uhoh:

agreed. I'm struggling to think who could play Kirk. Perhaps I should do it. :D

JJ is not dead set on a prequel just yet; although it is the most rumoured outcome.

Trek is going for a major reboot with JJ, I just hope not too many other people get their fingers stuck in the pie.

Matt Damon could be Kirk, Ben Afflack would be Spock, Lewis Black could be Dr. McCoy, Samuel L Jackson would be a black cooler Scotty, Beyonce would be Uhura, George Takei would be Sulu again except openly gay now, Uma Thurman would be Chekov... C, mon, it would be great!

And I dont know it for a fact. But I'm bored shitless with pretty much everything you post on the subject. If thats your intended geriatric lawyer plan of attack when you qualify, cycling to courtrooms, I fear you may succeed in sending judges to an early grave.

How about giving it a rest for the sake of NOOL?

Time to hit the hut again. methinks. It really is tiresome. You ever thought of an 'virtual retirement home'?

I reckon its time.
