Since it is in my backyard, you think I would go one of these days. Day one sounds good, but compared to other years Cochella seems a bit weak on the bands showing up.

Sorry, but I just can't read the word 'awesome' without hearing it in American accent. Oar-sum. Everything is oar-sum in the US. It's as pointless a word as our adjective 'nice'.
Can't you call it brill or triffic or ace?

Sorry guys, but Coachella isn't for me this year. Wouldn't go and see any of the acts even if they were playing my local, let alone a desert several thousand miles away!

Could'nt have put it better meself.Awesome is the cheapest,most overused word by our American cousins,and too many people here nowadays,when summat is clearly not at all awesome,and often barely average.
But for some reason I always think what Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent must think.Proper Oars-men!

Well, they are trying to get U2 for the 400th anniversary of Quebec City over here... if that happens, it will be that kind of festival.
But IMHO, they are dreaming
Canadian press are reporting today that organizers of the 400 Years Festival of Quebec are trying to get U2 to play at the celebration, possibly in July, 2008. According to reports, U2 have refused an offer of $1.5 million USD, and organizers are now hoping to encourage the band to accept their offer by tying the event to a humanitarian effort (such as poverty).

Judging from a few posts over the last days, quite a few people on here have an inexplicable boner for Crowded House. 
there are so many bands on that line up that i would go over there to watch :(
heard some rumours though that the reunited RATM are in line to headline a day at leeds 
which would be awesome for me cos the other big headline rumour is metallica
i hope the leeds line up has as many good bands as coachella, i was only at leeds for one band in 2006 
but it was still a mint weekend

Not sure about every corner of the US, but no one really uses 'awesome' anymore. That was big in the late 80s. The only time I hear it anymore, is in movies, where they are trying to show the charator is either stupid or out of touch with the "hip lingo".

Over where I grew up, in Philadelphia, it is still used, but it's not synonymous with "nice." Usually, you'll hear someone say something like, "Yo, that is fuckin' awesome," around here. Or you can say, "Yo, that kicks ass," if you want to get the same point across.

I reside in California, and lived in South Carolina, Maryland, and Oregon.
I would love to go if there were someplace to stay. In past years every hotel room had been booked for months in advance so your only option is to camp out. Camping in 100 f heat sounds horrible and I wouldn't ever do it. I guess if I really wanted to go I could book a room and buy tickets now but I just don't have that kind of cash sitting around at the moment.......so no. I guess I won't go. Hopefully, I could get ahold f some JAMC video and/or audio after the fact.

Think me & the Mrs. are going on Sunday, particularly for Crowded House. Can't say I have a boner for them, but they are one of my fave bands. I do have a boner for Keira Knightly. 
We're also considering going on Friday. I love Jesus & the Mary Chain, but they aren't the best live band. Ditto for the Mondays IMHO. The Mrs. loves Jarvis, so we may go.
I'm going. Got my ticket for the Friday, just booked flights and accommodation. It's the Jesus and Mary Chain ffs. :)
