New York/Toronto

Ready guys? There is to be an oldmonkey invasion of septic land in September, spending a week in NYC and a couple of days in Toronto.

Anyone got any recommendations for good hotels?

Anyone coming to meet up for a beer?

Go and stand in the middle of Times Square once it goes dark and it really comes to life. First two words out of your mouth will be "fuck me"...

You should come to Killadelphia it's only an hour drive (and shorter on the train). It's more fun and as of today we've had 4 less murders than new York so far this year!!! (and 1/5th the population)

edit: you should go to the hotel new yorker... centrally located and fun. Bars on St. Mark's place definitely...

Plus it's just next to Penn Station, which is very helpful.

We almost booked that one or the other one in front of Penn Station when we went there the last time, we finally went for the Milford Plaza.

I used to work in the Hotel New Yorker (floors 1-17 are converted hotel rooms into office space). It's clean they're friendly and it's not super expensive.

There's a neat greasy spoon attached to it as well.

It's across the street from the TGIF we met at for the last NO Show.

I will arrive on sept 21 th for the chemical brothers and the cure gigs ….so if you will be there in those days…we can have a beer in a pub called Times Square brawery, there is a good dunkel beer there

Philadelphia? More fun than NY? Laughable. Not even debatable. you might just have some bad memories.

I would avoid Times square like the plague although Hotel New yorker seems like good digs. Times square is enough to drive me to murder.

St. Marks is boring now. Yuppies got their hands on it now.I would suggest brooklyn over manhattan now.

toronto is good for a couple days. I used to go there a lot before i moved to brooklyn. My brain aint working quite right these days so i cant think of any good spots. they used to have great outdoor raves outside of the city but i doubt those are still happening.

In front Penn Station…that one is the Pennsylvania , a huge hotel with an average rate per night of 274 the cheapest option, in Wilford Plaza around 300 per night.

Probably I’ll stay in Jersey City…you can find hotels 100 per night

When we go to New York we always stay at the Hotel Newton on Broadway between 94/95? It's clean and right on the subway line. Some rooms are so small that you have to leave to change your mind, but that's New York. *smile*

My reccommendation would be to bypass Toronto altogether and spend a couple more days in NYC. Did 5 days in each on my first ever North American trip and found Toronto to be one of the most dull places I've ever been. Especially when you're seeing it back to back with New York.

I'm sure there's cheap hotels in manhattan north of 125th street :P

Hotels.com last minute always hooked me up.

The best thing about Toronto is that it's a great place to take a rest on the car trip between Ottawa and Windsor.

Unless you are an Ice Hockey fan, Toronto is not that great. all they really have is the hockey hall of fame Montreal is much better, but in Montreal you need ore than 2 days. people in both cities are very nice though.

i had a girlfriend in toronto and stayed over there 3 times.toronto has a bit going on outdoors in the summer but most of it would have ended when you get there. sam's records on yonge street is good. also the ferry across to centre island gives you a good view of the city from water. there is a few music bars up queens west. ermm,queens east has a beach

The best thing I can say about Toronto is that the people are very "nice", in a Stepford Wives kind of way. And that my mum spent the first two years of her life there (before my grandad got homesick for a single-end tenement in Possil!!). The wee island is quite pleasent to cycle round too I suppose.

Why oh why does everyone want to go to Toronto?? We only went there in 2001 because a lad we know emmigrated there.And why oh why he went there god only knows (well alright then , he got a great job offer)

Thanks for all your responses. We're only considering Toronto because Karen went there a few years ago shopping and enjoyed it. We may do a week in New York, but a week of hotel is gonna be quite expensive!
