Just got out my bed, after sleeping for the 1st time for 4 days, and there's a thick blanket of snow covering everything! Looks lovely but, it'll be fucking Baltic out there!
And I need to venture out into it for provisions shortly. (This wee smiley could be a self portrait :( Wee Blue Scotsman.) Snow already, when do we get a fucking [orange]Summer!?[/orange]
Is it snowing anywhere else yet?

Chilly in the mornings, nice the rest of the day. No snow though--that's Florida for ya. 
However, I'll be seeing snow near the end of this month/early next month when I visit family up in Indiana.
Any clue [how much of] what to pack up?

Layers. That's the secret to warm clothing... Lots of layers, not one big woolly jumper, 3 or 4 tops and you'll be toasty.

They don't even need to be thick layers (I think it's something to do with trapping warm air between the layers, or summit).

Fuckin freezin, raining like mad, rain that is so cold only motion keeps it liquid, UGH! Shit thing is that the security lights are out a work, so if it wasn't so fuckin cloudy, I'd have a wonderful view of the stars :(
Snowed here on our Thanksgiving day...Then when I was putting up the Christmas Decorations in the yard yesterday...'twas 80 fucking degrees....

No snow here, though it has been raining for the last three days... but even our rain is weak compared to other places. Temps around 69F during the day and 56F at night.
Jenn, do watch out for wearing too many layers. You can sweat in them, then actually freeze in your own sweat, getting you sick. You effectively need only three layers. A water wicking layer (preferably not cotton) but something like long johns, a warming layer like nice think fleece, and a water/wind proof layer, like a winter jacket.
Not like you need to survive and live in snow for days straight, but the general rule is 'cotton kills' when you do, since it holds yer moisture, keeping it close to yer body making you freeze.

Light pollution: pain in the tits. bought a telescope recently and can't see a thing for the orange glow reflecting off the atmosphere.
Thrilling actually seeing the details on the moon, a big auld rock: and what a buzz catching a glimpse of anther planet is. I want to see Saturn's rings for myself, with my own eyes...

But you where taught what to wear by the USMC, and I only live in a place on the same latitude as Moscow, in one of the wettest, and often seemingly coldest, places in the world.
Your Temp is 69F day & 56F at night, mines are around 0 by day and -2 downwards by night (when I'm normally out), but of course, I've been dressing inappropriately for the last 41years!
10 minutes of rain. Just enough to say "it rained today". Hard to believe we are in December.
On the other hand, we had two days of strong winds (enough to make bins on wheels dance in the streets - sometimes had the feeling to play more than I was driving) and I feel like having a hangover today...

You are aware I've trained in areas other than California, right? The information I'm giving is when I did winter training up in the Mountians. 15 feet of snow, -18F (-28C), and we lived in the snow for 30 days. Making water from snow, and having only 3 sets of clothes for that time period... we mainly slept in holes in the snow. No heaters, no indoor areas, just sleep, eat, and train. Sweat was a killer, and I had 5 of my men go down with hypothermia simply because of overdressing. (and cotton is evil because it never dries out and loves to absorb moisture).
Now granted Jenn or yerself are not going to live in the snow like this, but you really don't need alot of layering, simply the right layering.

It snowed here in Connecticut about three inches two days ago, but it was enough to create enough traffic that my 10 minute bus ride to work lasted a half hour.
And layering? It's been about 30F here during the day for the past week, so yes, you need to layer, but it's all about how you layer. I find that I'm warmer when I wear a regular jacket over my clothes and put my winter coat on top of it.
It snowed for this first time here in Aomori prefecture, Japan (northern Japan) about three weeks ago, but then it melted. It's snowed since then, but it's melted, so it's like a pattern of, 'snow a bit, then melt' ETC ETC ETC
The weather reports say that it'll snow later tonight or something. On the other hand, it gets to be 30 to 35 degrees (celsius, by the way) in the summer here.

I spent ages de-icing my car this morning. I'm dreaming of a White Christmas. I live at the edge of some stunning countryside and am hoping for a lovely walk in the snow over the christmas period, followed by some potato hash and mulled wine at Rivington Barn.
Thanks Mum and Dad for abandoning me over Christmas. Flying off to hotter climes, practically orphaning me - selfish fecks 
It snowed up in the mountians that are about a 2 hour drive away and to the top. Will probably take the kids this weekend.
Gotta love Southern California, you can live in warm temps and go visit the snow if you want, and leave it right where it belongs, not outside my home

We ALL have garages Jeffy, but we use them for brewing beer and keeping pigeons as well as storing various nick nacks. Nobody actually parks cars in them, how stupid is that???
