Debut album out today. It's rather good.
Half of it sounds like Stockholm Monsters have plundered New Order's out-takes though. That 3rd track (can't remember its name) is straight off Power, Corruption & Lies. ![]()
Yeah, well, carry on.

I was listening to the Stockholm Monsters earlier - 'Partyline' - one of my faves. I might give a listen to this 'Whip music' of which you speak... ![]()

It's well worth a little blast. To be honest - and I'll probably get slated for this by some - I expected a little more from them on first listen, given that they've been around a fair while now, and have been hyped by so many people I know.
But, having said that, for a debut album in this day and age, it's very good. Will get a lot of rotation on the iPod - can you still rotate on an iPod? Am picking up something new on each listen as there's a lot going on in each track. Some lovely little 'retro' electro sounds on there, which I'm liking a lot. And that third track (just looked it up - it's called Frustration) - it's the Village with a keyboard part behind the chorus which mirrors Ceremony's bassline. Which is nice.
Not entirely convinced by the vocalist though. ![]()
I missed them last Thursday - bugger (apparently, they were really good)... I meant to catch them at the XfM Remix party, but stayed in the Ninja Tunes room for longer than I thought...
Ah well, they're playing at another couple of festivals I'm off to this year, so I'll make a point of trying to catch them at one of them! ![]()

I'm huge fan of The Whip. I was waiting for that album for a long time. I should order it cos I don't know when it will be available in Canada.:)
Sister Siam. Good value. Their my- Space.. Shows dates plus a Link to the LabeL.
and what of This. Jason Rae. Reuters Link.

I think I'm going to see them on Thursday.
I'm certainly going to see someone on Thursday. Probably try to get the record today.

They're playing Aberdonia on Thursday, so it could be them.
They're doing that Fat Boy Slim thing in London in July. I might go to that now! ![]()

Fire?
Been into The Whip for about a year now. They found me on My Space. Dunno why but I really love them and their music never fails to uplift really! It's currently the only album I have on my new ipod shuffle for the gym and running and i can honestly say I think it's a brilliant album. Frustration is by far my fave track though, gets under my skin.
I'm seeing them in London on the 14th May and again in Manchester on the 22nd May. Not seen them live so am interested to see what they will be like.
Not heard of them, but that will not surprise anyone here ![]()
Surprised Hibster's not mentioned them, is that a good thing?
Will get it when I get home ![]()
sure if you go back far enough they've come up before - think it may have been on the bands that sound like new order thread ![]()
Liam's been going on about them for ages. Their record is getting shit reviews from what I can see, but the PC&L reference pops up again and again.
Guess I'll be buying it after all the good karma it's receiving around here. Though if it's toss you're ALL FUCKING DEAD.

Picked this up at lunchtime. New Order right through it. It's fantastic.
(I'm only on track two).
Roll on tomorrow ![]()

I must stop downloading stuff. My copy seems to be in totally different order to the 'proper' release and with slightly different song titles.
Maybe it's someone else, I dunno?

Ah, who can be arsed to buy it. I'll just rob it one of you lot when you've finally ripped it!
There's a sale on in our HMV. Whip was only £7 and I got Aracade Fire, The Enemy Hot Chip for jsut over £20 and a Garfield DVD that I didn't want for half price!
Midlife crisis coming along well then ![]()
Oh and there was a free DVD of a Manchester gig with the Whip CD. Betcha don't get that on your fancy file-sharing sites.
Sadly a girl who I work with borrowed it so I can't tell you what it's like.
Going to see them tomorrow anyway, so I don't need a stupid DVD.
Used to be nylon pylon, who were good too. piss all over hot chip.
sirens- echo and the bunnymen frustration - "atmosphere" trash- gang of four all commendable influences.
went to a party in their disco dungeon after one of Alex's birthday do's. mc tunes and his gold-plated technics. top .
Col,
I bought Neon Neon 'stainless style' instead.
Aberdeen Order CD club will have to exchange 'dator packets' again
I'm the Whip's biggest fan now.
I fancy the drummer and everything.
What a great gig.
You go your way and I'll go mine.
This better be good, cos based on your recommendations i've just been and out and bought it.
I could easily see it being my album of the year ![]()
So far my favourite track is Sirens. And Frustration too
Top stuff! ![]()
I can't see how this isn't the best seven quid anyone has spent on a disc for ages never mind the DVD. The sound of the bass is blatantly Hookys and the overall feel is very eighties. Love the opening track, for track 2 I was ready to sing The Village, I hear Sirens (in my heart?) beyond that to be honest I heard the Psychedelic Furs a bit more than Norder and dare I say it U2. All these in a complimentary fashion of course.
Excellent, now off for tickets to the May tour.
It's eight quid to see 'em in London in May.
EIGHT QUID!
Are they charging 1980's prices too, as well as ripping off the sound!

I'm away, but still ...
pure_shaw wrote: Used to nylon pylon, who were good too. piss all over hot chip.
Ah, I've got a single by them - was released on Clint Boon's label.
Top tune! :)
I'll have to get this album, then... ![]()

Eight quid? Reading between the lines...if I collect those tokens out of the Boro Evening Gazette, doss at my old faithful's gaff at Fulham/Chelsea(sound as fuck Novern bird) down the smoke,I'd have change out of a pony?*
Drugs, beer, and missing in action expenses notwithstanding*
Youtube'd em..Like the 'you go your way,I'll go mine' choon,warrever it's called.....Will check diary and might do dat,circumstizers permitting,natch.
EIGHT QUID![]()
Gunna get the Album deffo, and if it's any good, nuts in London..rude not to...Having said that the gods are always against me when it comes to getting bitched-up,she'll be loved up,I'll have missed the boat, and I'll be on the settee...Which suits me cos I don't actually fancy her in the slightest.
Sound as though,she is is.Hic.![]()
It was £6.60 in Aberdeen.
My kebab cost more on the way home!
Was a really top night actually.

WHIP and getting LASHED.story of your LIFE!![]()
I was seriously thinking that Nic should change the name of this site to Whiponline.com. They're the natural successors to our band in more ways than one. We could just carry on and pretend nothing's changed.
By golly, they're gash.
You should be listening to Studio or A Mountain Of One
