Stay where you are Mike, we're sending someone round now, you'll be able to spot them by the butterfly nets. BTW, what size straitja.....errrmm shirt do you take?
I don't think it's quite the greatest in music history, but here's some of my favourite music covers.
It's Alright- Pet Shop Boys All Day and All of the Night- The Stranglers Tainted Love- Soft Cell
Dunno if these are the greatest covers, but I even made a mix of all covers...
- Higher Ground-Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Absolutely Sweet Marie-Jason & The Scorchers
- Hurt-Johnny Cash
- Black Diamond-The Replacements
- Toys in The Attic-REM
- 8 Miles High-Husker Du
- Little Wing-Stevie Ray Vaughan
- All Along The Watchtower-Hendrix
- Train Kept a Rollin-Aerosmith
- California Dreamin-Eddie Hazel
- Redemption Song-Joe Strummer
- Here I am-UB40
- Let Down-Easy Star All Stars & Toots Hibbert
- Sweet Jane-Cowboy Junkies
- Party Train-Love Tractor
- Raspberry Beret-Hindu Love Gods (Warren Zevon & others)
- There is a Light That Never Goes Out-Neil Finn & Johnny Marr
and "Strutter" by The Donnas. They look HOT in KISS makeup...
Yer all fucking wrong!
The best cover EVER is Only Love Can Break Your Heart by St. Etienne...
I should just lock this thread now...
okey dokey....maybe...just maybe, it's actually All Along The Watchtower from Jimi and his crew...it's miles better than the original...
It was surely the time I COVERED Mike's face with spunk while THE CURE played in the background.
No?

starting to thing staint ett do many cover versions ![]()
Got to agree with The Stranglers 'Walk On By'. Phenomenal keyboard break.
Instrumentally it's excellent, adding everything that the original lacked.
A cover version that not only shat all over the original, it didn't even bother to wipe its bum afterwards ![]()
Ermmm, I'll go along with Only Love etc by St Etienne, always thought controversially that Madonna's 'Ray of Light' is an ace cover, having heard the hippy shit original.
JD did a good cover of this by Nolan Porter:

Yeah I'm biased towards SAINT ETIENNE.Their covers of Neil Young "Only Love Will Break Your Heart" and Candlewick Green's "Who Do You THink.."
But then there's always PSB's "Always On My Mind" or THIS MORTAL COIL's "Song TO THe Siren"
But alas my favourite is BIS - LWTUA!!
Actually, my top 5 covers of all time...
1] "Hurt" - Johnny Cash
2] "Always on My Mind" - Pet Shop Boys
3] "Where Is My Mind?" - Placebo
4] "Mr. Disco" - Tomihira
5] "Love Will Tear Us Apart" - The Cure ![]()

I forgot about that one!!
Got to say once you've heard FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD's Born To Run, Bruce Windscreen's version sounds a little twee.
Also C Bentley's covers of EGG and ICB
And SEROTONIN's No Love Lost
Now i'm serious:
Dead Souls - Nine Inch Nails You've Got to Hide Your Love Away - Eddie Vedder Can't Take My Eyes off You - Muse All Along the Watchtower - Dave Matthews Band A Night Like This - Billy Corgan Hurt - Johnny Cash Disorder - Los Planetas The Man Who Sold The World - Nirvana Purple Haze - The Cure Blue Monday - Orgy No Love Lost - LCD Soundsystem Stripped - Rammstein

Do any of you remember Rage - Run To You?
An euphoric, trancey cover of the 1985 Bryan Adams classic?
But yes, Christopher Bentley's covers of Everything's Gone Green and ICB do deserve their place on this thread too.
In fact, the best and worst cover version of all time is Alex's version of S Club 7's "Dont Stop Movin" which does exist in recorded format somewhere in the Dukinfield Vault.
Also, gordies version of a Roy Orbison song was particularly awesome. ![]()
blondie - the tide is high madness - it must be love the specials - a message to you, rudy morrissey - moon river jose gonzalez - hand on your heart pixies - winterlong
mmmm,,, these have already been mentioned though they are soooo superior to the original and surpass the artists own writing in places.

I remember it as a really bad commercial house meets soft rock effort similar to East Side Beat's cover of "Ride Like The Wind" from the same era. ![]()
A good cover version from back then was Secret Life's version of Stevie Wonder's "Always". Pure gospel heaven. ![]()
primal scream "slip inside this house" teenage fanclub "like a virgin" sueno latino "sueno latino" (e2-e4) belle and sebastian played the theme tune to the snooker when they did Preston Guild Hall. does this count?
