An interesting phenomenon. Bands who are all 30+ whose fanbase features a large chunk in the 13 to 17 year old bracket. I'm thinking specifically of....
Red Hot Chilli Peppers Feeder Kaiser Chiefs
....and a whole raft of these emo/goth type characters. The common denominator with the above three is that they're all shite but there's plenty of other shite that doesn't attract the teenies. Strange aint it?
Kraftwerk. The proper members are 60+ And their fanbase is 30 and 40-somethings! 
What about DJ's? Someone like Sasha springs to mind.

I'm not talking about the legends that will always pull an age-diverse crowd. I'm talking about bands that are actively writing, recording and hitting the high spots on the charts but who attract aload of very young teenagers.
As for DJs in general and Sash in particular I don't agree. In the last 5 years or so there's been a load of new names breaking through (Armin Van Burren, Ferry Corsten, Tiesto etc). These are the superstar's now, the guys who sell out the concert sized venues. Yer old gaurd of Sasha, Rampling, Oakenfold, etc etc wouldn't have anywhere near that sort of pull anymore (if they even still gigged as Oakey and Rampling hardly do).
It's a crying shame how quality jocks such as Graeme Park are now reduced to doing 'retro' nights to get booked.

On the one hand, it might look quite sad.
On the other, there's maybe something to be said for being in a crap band when you're 36 but having a queue of 16-17 year olds wanting to suck your cock after each gig. Nice work, some might say.

the thing is - and i'm just thinking out loud here - i reckon these, and RHCP (and dear god, even feeder), may well be what ver kids regard as "legends that will always pull an age-diverse crowd". they've all been around a good long while now, no? they just happen to be continuing to peddle their wares.
they may be older but they haven't matured, have they? still with the silly hair and the guyliner and the shouty bollocks. it's intended for teenagers of all ages, innit. same with emo-y bands in this category.

i think that getting young/college actors/actresses to appear on their music videos has a significant effect on attracting a young fanbase.
U2 - don't think they've ever been more popular as today, and each new shite album brings more young fans in
