DMTV Breaking News Posted: 2/19/2009

USA Today reports on multiple formats for the new album as well as revealing the new cover.

USA Today Says:

A new Depeche Mode album is always a big deal to fans of the iconic electro-pop band, but one version of the April 12 release couldn't get much bigger. In addition to being released as a standard 13-track CD, a special-edition CD/DVD, a double vinyl set and a download, Sounds of the Universewill be available as a deluxe box set with three CDs, a DVD and extras including enamel badges, a poster, art cards and two 84-page books of lyrics and photos.

Among the box set's bonus tracks are original tunes, Universe remixes and demos, and alternate tracks from Violator, Songs of Faith and Devotion, Music for the Masses and Playing the Angel, as well as 1998 single Only When I Lose Myself. The DVD holds the full album plus four songs captured live in the studio, the new Wrong video and three films.

A North American tour starts July 24 in Toronto, with some markets going on sale March 13.

It's a massive undertaking to be sure. Let's hope the music makes up for the artwork.

You're welcome, and "Wrong" is out on the radio now, best single since "It's no good".

I am rather indifferent. I do not fancy getting a box set with pics of Gahan looking moody or DVDs of him snapping his fingers. I'm not even going to download the mp3s illegally.

I wouldn't ever compress Depeche Mode into MP3, seems like a travesty of some sort. The demo's are worth the boxset purchase. They actually have demos from their massive albums like SOFAD, MFTM, and Violator.

i guess you already caught your grammer, so no reason to post now.

i like a few depeche mode songs but i can't imagine they generate enough intrest to sell a whole box.

They garnerd enough of a fanbase to sell it to.

"Depeche Mode"? Aren't they Jonathan Ross' band...?

How did a guy with only 19 posts manage to rile so many?

How did they sell out the Rosebowl? Because they put on a good show.

With what they have planned, it's going to be a worthwhile purchase.

The song itself is pretty tuneless

the electronic bits are very boring (and that computer/vocoder voice intoning 'wrong' is very irritating)

where's the melody

the lyrics are kind of interesting, kind of a departure

that's a pretty poor "single"

Well, to each his/her own, but it still beats the exciter album.

I'll agree, the lyrics are uncanny. Was expecting "pain and suffering" somewhere. As for "wheres the melody?" we have remember Alan Wilder was the only one who could write those.

that's no excuse

they have more than enough money and clout to hire a good producer

and these guys are supposed to be musicians, they should be able create their own material instead of contracting most of the work to an external person like hillier or tim simenon

A new Depeche track is on their Itunes uk page. It's unavailable for those of us in the US.

I have to say that I'm disappointed with Wrong, as it sounds as though four chords are just being looped over-and-over. I hope the Sounds Of The Universe album is better.

Exciter was not their worst album and it was not a bad one, playing the angel has been their worst…..but listening to wrong, seems the new album will be the worst.

I believe Martin did write the music for this album. I could be wrong.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dave wrote this,he's taken more of the songwriting on.TUNE!!!

I liked the lyrics to their new single 'Wrong', although my guess is that they probably selected a simple and catchy song to be the first single.

The music video was a bit creepy, especially towards the end, although the brief shot of the three members passing by (or standing there?) was nice.

(I just had a look of the video and blogged about it here...anyone want to take a shot at reading Japanese? )

:read:

I'll be looking forward to the entire album, nonetheless. :music:

Ive always been a DM fan.

Back when i just cant get enough came out i was a snotty nosed ten year old bopping away to the specials at the local discotecha, having older cousins who were into them really got me on the DM case.

I remember my cuz getting a broken frame on vinyl and he played it constantly for about 6 months and he EVEN taped it for me!

Violator is without doubt one of my all time fave albums.

It took me quite a while to get into songs of faith, and some of the jesus influences did begin to get on my tits.

Hated ultra when it first came out,but barrel of a gun is nectar as boaty says.

i've got exciter somewhere, probably at the back of a cupboard somewhere!

I saw em on the songs of faith tour in 1993 and have to admit they were excellent live.

Did try getting tickets for the tour of the world but to no avail :\ohwell:

I recently sold all my DM tapes to a guy in Brazil for £100!

Got then all on cd tho:wink:

I was able to the watch the official vid posted on youtube just a few days ago, but now I get the 'this video is not available in your country' label. Then I tried clicking on the same vid that someone else (not DM's official page) uploaded and it said that I couldn't view it because of copyright claims. :banghead: :(

So, I finally saw the vid again on imeem, and adjusted the links in my blog.

Anyway, I pre-ordered my copy on amazon.co.jp, so I'm happy about that though.

I'm not much of a Depeche Mode fan... but it's not bad for them. Video is kinda kewl.

Typical shallow/vacuous DM moodiness as is their trademark, music is cool retro electro stuff with nice modern beats by whoever they paid alot to produce it. Trademark overdone vocalization as expected. They outta pay DFA to remix it.

So is the title trying to say we mostly DO care??? Or that we do care but don't want to admit it?

Nash, we need your grammatical expertise in this area to make this as clear as muddy water...

I addressed my grammar earlier on, just the general consensus of you lot is you don't care. I'm daft as they come.

The video for wrong is great, although I think it could be even better if done by Sir Corbijn, but that's life. Really provoking and full of tension, as a 1st single from DM should be.

The track itself isn't that good, maybe a grower. Didn't liked the remixes, but then again it's a difficult tune to remix. Is it in the UK chart already?

Preda, you are very pro-Depeche... It's 2009, not like you're in 1986 sitting at the back of the classroom.

I supposed I'm having a "Black Celebration" there.

I managed to get the album (thankyou Soulseek) over the weekend, its not too bad after a few listens, the album is more synth orientated than previous albums.

Its nothing to write home about, but i think it will grow on me.
