The 80's still rules

The memories I have of the 80's is:

1. the fluorscent braclets 2 the spikey hair styles 3 the music 4 the movies 5 the band from Canada Platinum Blonde I was in 2 videos and knew the band members 6 my high school years thank goodness for that I recieved an award for best attendence and fricken proud of it 7 the music of the 80's will always rule: BANDS LIKE: Depechemode, New Order, Culture Club, Platinum Blonde, Kim Mitchell, Queen, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Duran Duran (which I will be spending more time with that band now) Rick Springfield, Blondie, The Cars, and all the 80's bands my sister and I have so much memories of that era and noticed the 80's is making a bit of a come back except the 80's music is done in re-mix version and the 8o's music is now played on adverts like cars and the reeses peanut butter cups THE 80'S ERA WILL ALWAYS RULE Miss Hooky's Angel

i can only remember up to 84 when i left school then some bits here and there, pinning a year down is tricky, there was a lot of good music, good parties and good other stuff!

I dj a New Wave night in Chicago, and it's crazy how many young people love the genre. I know bands like Interpol, Cut Copy and Hot Chip is a gateway to the bands from the 80's but it still surprises me how many kids I meet who really love the music and are not just there for nostalgia/fashion bullshit.

I do have to agree...the 80s were great...could do without Tiffany, Debbie Gibson etc., however. The thing that really bothers me though is that every defence has to be to bring up the fact that you are Canadian and insult Americans and the British...I don't get it? Who really cares? You're making us Canadians look bad! If you're not happy with someone's response fine but leave Canada out of it!

Of course there was good music... and Hip hop, Acid house, indie rock grew mostly underground and exploded by the end of the decade. An awful lot of awful tinny soulless pop music thou, and mainstream rock was a joke, the radio was so stagnant in the USA, and kids, there wasn't the internet to learn about different music and listen. There was MTV which was both a blessing and a curse. Pre-recorded cassettes sounded like shit and were a shitty product, but people bought them.

I think if the "kids nowadays" went back to the mid 80s they would be shocked by the lack of diversity in mainstream society, in America at least. The lack of diversity in stores to buy. The clothes were bland and crappy, and rather unsexy for both men and women. Possibly the worst hairstyles in the history of modern civilization. 10 years olds nowadays have better fashion sense nowadays.

I'm with you on that, i don't have a problem with anyone from any country, just people that make stupid comments and over react to others comments, i have made comments about Canadians before, but only in jest, and do not wish to alienate anyone, if it weren't for a Candian, we'd not have this site.

I remember, back in the '80s, that my parents, watching ex-idols of the '60s, used to tell me : "You will see, son. You are laughing at us now, but it will be the same for you in twenty years".
