A STATEMENT FROM NOEL

"It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.
"Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan."
Rumour has it that Liam smashed up one of Noel's guitars backstage in Paris during a massive argument and that was the final straw.
I was amazed by the fuss caused by the cancellation of the 'V' gig last weekend. But I was amazed at the fuss about 'V' full-stop - since when was did it become an event of national cultural significance?!? I remember very clearly when it started that it was widely derided as being an awful corporate pseudo-festival....
Anyway, Oasis: great first single - "Supersonic" had swagger and a genuine air of cheap drugs and latent violence about it. All downhill from thereon in, natch. Talk about premature ejaculation.

Gutted, i thought the last album was great. Lost interest with them for a few years after Liam started acting the twat after the Morning Glory album, but you have to give them credit where it's due, their singles have been consistently good. Two of the best interviewee's in music as well, so many classic one liners. Definitely Maybe is a masterpiece.
The remaining 'talent' has left.
Actually, if you read Johnny Marr's biography you'd know that the talent was never really in the band. I've not been able to take NG seriously as a musician since I read that.
He's always struck me as a bit of a wankbag anyway. Plastic Mancs. Fucked off to London as soon as they got some money and good riddance. They walk like I do when I'm pissed.

I will grant them attitude, though. The only time I ever saw them was at Glastonbury in 1994. I think they'd only had the one single out at that point but there was huge hype already surrounding them. They played early doors, about 1-2pm, in the blazing sun. I didn't think much of the songs, but there was a huge lairy crowd and quite a few bottles were being thrown. One whizzes a few inches past Liam's bonce: the band stop playing. And do nothing. And it goes on like this for what seems an eternity. They just silently stare at the crowd. It was great. I've seen bands react in all sorts of ways to having stuff lobbed at them but nothing like this. Impeccably cool and totally appropriate. Subtle, even. So, that's my one good memory of Oasis.....
Would just like to get something else off my chest about that Gem Archer lad. His godawful fucking band Heavy Stereo were the bane of my life at one point. They seemed to be supporting every band I went to see. Felt like being stalked. Things reached a particular low-point when I went to the Phoenix festival in 1996. The only two bands I wanted to see were Cocteau Twins and Mazzy Star. Missed the Coc's cos of the fucking 100-mile queue of traffic trying to get onto the site. Not happy.
Mazzy Star hardly ever play in the UK, so this was a big deal for me. The fuckers pull out at the last minute, only to be replaced with.......Heavy Stereo, incongruously bumped up the bill. I was in a foul mood all weekend, which I spent for the most part drunkenly spitting at the pseudo-famous types playing "celebrity" 5-a-Side.

Somehow I feel this is merely a long hiatus and not permanent, based on what I've read in a very recent interview in a respected Japanese music magazine of Noel, Liam, and Andy.
The interview was from this month's edition of Crossbeat magazine, and was conducted during Fuji Rock fes in late July.
(Who knows? Something may have happened in just 1 month. But I'm posting this anyway---I've translated some quotes from the article.)
Q. Are there any places you want to visit on tour that you've never been? Noel- I really wanted to go to China....but I was refused entry. I'd love to do a gig in India, and also Russia too. I went there for a solo gig before, but I'd love to do one as Oasis.
Q. There's this stuff going round about a solo album, but it seems that you're making demos...do you think that you will make the solo album while during the break? Noel- I've never said anything about a solo album. Maybe Liam used that term. But I've never said 'solo album'. That so-called 'solo album' does not exist. Q. Ok. Noel- I'll get this straight. There's lots of songs I've written that weren't released. The last time I counted---36 songs. None of those 36 have been released. But I don't think we can release our next album right away....But that doesn't mean Oasis will cease to exist. It has nothing to do with the existence of our band.
Q.Liam is currently working on his fashion label Pretty Green, but what do you think about that? Noel- What do I think? I haven't got anything to say about it. Q. Liam once told us that if you, Noel, wanted to get anything from Pretty Green, that you should buy it. Haven't you received anything, like even just one piece? Noel- I've received several. Q. Did you wear it? Noel- I gave it away. Q. .... (interviewer is speechless) Noel- I can say this, though. It's a bit tiring to have a fashion icon in the same band.
Q. When will you start working on your next album? Noel- I'm always writing songs. I won't stop doing that. I always keep my guitar with me. No matter where I am in the world.....I've written about 5 songs during this tour. Even the last time I came to Japan, I wrote 1 song at this exact hotel. But Liam wants to go in the studio immediately after this tour, then he can if he wants to. I'm not (going to the studio that immediately).
Q. Can you give us even just a vague idea about when your next album may come out? Noel- Next....maybe about 2015.

Cocteau Twins played Phoenix 96? Bastard. I was actually there that year although only for the Saturday as i recall. Maybe Cocteaus played another night. All i remember is fighting our way in the opposite direction to thousands leaving the main stage after fucking Bjork's set. We were trying to get to one of the tents to see Minty. Not the gruff bloke out of Eastenders but a short lived band who's female lead singer performed in nothing but a see through mac.Got to the tent just as she was leaving the stage at the end of the gig 
Can't find much info or pics on the net of her but i remember The Sun being outraged that she performed gigs butt naked except for her see through mac.
I remember listening to Oasis at Glastonbury 1994 from our tent. Seem to recall it going quiet for a while before the music started again. Must have been the bottle incident you mention
Seen them loads of times, most recently in June. They put on a good show, but I do remember thinking that I wasn't that bothered if I saw them again.
I'll give it a couple of years until they reform and bring a new album out.

Their entire schtick was based upon being working-class provincial hedonists, so twatting off to spunksville and hanging out at the fucking Groucho was something of an ideological no-no, I'd say. Noel could have bought a great big house in Alderley Edge and been less of a fucking rent-a-quote cuntbag, too. Their attitude to their roots fucking stinks. Plus, writing the same fucking song 200 times is not "working hard", at least not where I'm from. Gayers.

I do find it amazing that people who dont listen to the band actually care and are celebrating as if its some kind of victory.

Cheshire is close to Manchester, and New Order have always been associated with Manchester and kept themselves close to the 'scene' here. Not that I use New Order members as by benchmark of much. It's quite normal to earn a couple of quid and move there, or even to North Wales, while still working and 'living' in Manchester. In fact, I grew up in a Cheshire postcode and consider myself to be a Mancunian.
There are, you may be surprised to learn, other types of housing than council houses in Manchester itself. In fact, within walking distance of Burnage, where Oasis grew up, there are some very smart areas with houses as big and secluded as you would wish to live in.
The real point is not one of image and location, but one of utterly selling out to London while still trading heavily on their Mancunian Roots, both as a short-cut to supposed 'cool' and also to excuse their more laughable excesses.
The result is a frankly insulting parody of my home town that is lapped up by a grateful media an bears little relation to what true Mancunians are all about.
I remember a documentary where the recently-successful and recently fucked-off-to-London Oasis were carried around Manchester in a blacked-out people carrier. Cue lots of pointing through windows at scenes of deprivation and poverty and proper terror on the faces of the bruvvers as they were forced to contemplate what might not have been. They didn't get out of the car, of course. They are not popular lads around their former homes though, so that was probably for the best.
They're not proud exports, they're disgusting wretches who take a distant memory of their upbringing and exploit it as much as they can while giving absolutely nothing in return.

Moving to Alderley Edge/Knutsford etc would also constitute selling out IMO. Once bands reach that level of affluence, London or otherwise, they generally start to decline.

I was at V festival last week in Stafford so got to view this 'last' performance. I had seen them at their Saturday show at Wembley in July - I remember I really did not want to go leading up to the gig, then on the day my mate losing the tickets!! I did get in, however, and it rained the entire time but I have to say on that night they were really, really good and reminded me they have indeed thrown together some brilliant tracks! The comapny I was with also made it!
V was starnge, Liam was obviously in a funny mood but once again they delivered a great show, Liam's parting shot was along the lines of......"i'm fucking out of here, and this is I am the Walrus" I remeber thinking that the majority of the people there were there just to see them, and how hand on heart, they were nowhere near as special as some of the other acts, for me The Streets was the highlight of the weekend and the best show, Oasis came down the list. Am still glad that I got to see them, even more so that they pulled out of Chelmsford the next night, there was something a bit rock and roll at having seen them and not being bothered and knowing the lot down in Essex were gutted they had not shown!
All in all i've seen them quite a few times and i'm nopt bothered either way if I see them again or not, and i'll never do a V festival ever again, either!

As for V Festival - I went in 2003 and vowed never to return after the trials and tribualtions of that particular time, but back in March of this year that seemed a distamt memory and V 2009 seemed like a good idea. By the time 5 months had passed and the evnt came round I really did not want to go, and had I not been 'the driver' would have fucked it off.
The walk from the car park to our camp site took us 2 hours all in all, with a stack of bags fit for a 6 month trip thanks to someone I was with, I was lucky my other friends were there and came and met me with a trolly. We set up in the dark, and it was truly the most bitterly cols night I have ever spent. So damp my hair was wet in the morning and that was after the scousers next to us added to the torture by screaming all night and doing fire tricks that kept missing my tent by inches - at one point I was so cold I actually hoped they would set fire to my tent.
Without doubt the crowd that V pulls in is genarally a pretty wank crowd, the atmosphere is really poor and it's quite a rowdy crowd all in all. I don't know if it's always been like that, or if it's more recent. I know V sell day tickets, and on the Sunday the place was jammed so choco it was a joke. waiting 90 mins for the toilet and barely being able to move around, I don't like that part of it I only those on weekend passes should be allowed in. There were miles fewer toilets than 2003 and the set up of getting from stage to stage was just crap.
I packed my stuff up Sunday morning and set of late Sunday night after the last show - no way spending another night in camp - even then it took 2 hours to get out the car park, instead of the 7 hours the following morning.
As for the acts, well I enjoyed a lot of the acts to be fair, I missed Human league while going off to charge my Blackberry somewhere but am told they were one of the best. But never, ever agin will I go to V again. I'm tempted to do Glast next year, but that would likely be my final festival of that kind, but I am told it is nothing like V and a much nicer environment, set-up and crowd.
Shame you were at the down south V though, would have been nice to catch up!

Without doubt the crowd that V pulls in is genarally a pretty wank crowd, the atmosphere is really poor and it's quite a rowdy crowd all in all. I don't know if it's always been like that, or if it's more recent. I know V sell day tickets, and on the Sunday the place was jammed so choco it was a joke. waiting 90 mins for the toilet and barely being able to move around, I don't like that part of it I only those on weekend passes should be allowed in. There were miles fewer toilets than 2003 and the set up of getting from stage to stage was just crap.
I packed my stuff up Sunday morning and set of late Sunday night after the last show - no way spending another night in camp - even then it took 2 hours to get out the car park, instead of the 7 hours the following morning.
As for the acts, well I enjoyed a lot of the acts to be fair, I missed Human league while going off to charge my Blackberry somewhere but am told they were one of the best. But never, ever agin will I go to V again. I'm tempted to do Glast next year, but that would likely be my final festival of that kind, but I am told it is nothing like V and a much nicer environment, set-up and crowd.
Shame you were at the down south V though, would have been nice to catch up!
