Tesco Rules!!

Although I always end up buying much more than I intended whenever I go in.

Any excuse:...

Dont use Tescos much (theres not one near me) though sister in law works in one of thier stores,so they have came in handy in the past

For years people have fucked up versions of War of the Worlds, yet a 2 mins spoof from an unknown comedy show creates near perfect fisghting machines. They could do with being about 2x the height, and losing the machine guns in facour of heat rays, but still, they are joyous.

Jeff, I'm with you I too use Sainsbury's now, as living in Castle Donington, my other half shops at Sainsbury's during her lunch break.

Still think the tesco clubcard is better than the nectar card.

Having moved again, the nearest Tesco is a bit of a trek and I don't drive, so I 'do it' online and have it delivered. Good and bad points, sometimes the fresh produce only has a couple of shelf days on it, but otherwise its great and if I DO spend too much, I just go through the list and delete bits and bobs - thus, avoiding the embarrassment at the checkout of having to put things back!

But I remember when they invaded Czechoslovakia. All the Priors turned to Tescos, they put an end to an era and all the prices went up (but you could find more goods in shops). One Slovak had the idea to rebuild a Prior somewhere and that is where I used to go... Ostalgie...

As a non driver i have walked to the nearby one for the last two years ans spent a fortune.I have NOW boycotted it until futher notice.Still bob into M+S for food when in WIGAn(which is also a paradise for PIE eaters like ME). Rocket Every LITTLE helps

Used to shop at Sainsburys and Tesco, but now get most stuff delivered from Abel & Cole. Most of it is organic, the choice is a bit limited, but amazingly we spend loads less than when we used to go to the supermarket. We also don't throw much waste out anymore as we only buy what we need and don't get lured by bogof deals...

Thirded (only because it's 5 minutes walk away, though)! :)

Tescos are planning to build a 2 storey megastore here after they've knocked down the current one. And they also want to build one of those smaller Metro or whatver they're called just ONE mile away

Tesco 'Extra' stores are amazing. Usually they are open 24hrs too.

If I wanna go really upmarket we've got one of those mahusive Sainsbury's jobs a couple of miles away. It used to be a SavaCentre, but I think they're just labelled as normal Sainsbury's now. Still ginormous though.

Anyone else remember when Tesco's was primarily a Norvern supermarket, and Sainsbury's dominated the landscape of the South?

How many checkout's Al? Tesco at Hunsbury, Northants (yes HUN Shug) has 47, whilst Asda at Spondon Derby has 43.

24 hours is how we roll up here. I've got three 24 hour supermarkets within a 5 minute drive from the hoose. And the big Asda in Toryglen has got fucking everything you could want ever; consumer electricals, DVDs, jeans 'n t-shirts the lot. Best of all it has the 'Coinstar' machine where I take my poly bag full of change (anything below a 50p goes into that bad boy) tip it into the magic machine and usually walk away somewhere between £50 and £60 up every time.

I'm going to Dundee on Friday. Is the Tesco's you're talking about the one on the road out of town towards Perth? Just before the airport (yes Dundee does have an airport)? Don't remember it being that massive but will make an effort to survey it on Friday. I'll report my finding back here. Right on this thread. Stay tuned.

It's on the Kingsway, which is the ringroad, ie - its the A90 as it passes through/around the town. North end of the city on a big retail park, just as you're about to start heading up to Aberdeen.

The opening times are just so much more civilized up there, especially on a Sunday (which is bizarre given the not-too-distant cultural history of Sunday shut-down in Scotland). Nearly all supermarkets in England close at 4pm as standard on a Sunday (even the ones that masquerade as being 24 hours), but your local no-mark store north of the border will always be open 'til 8pm on the Lord's day. Very civilized.

tescos is the best food market in the world. alas, we don't have it here in the US, so where do i shop? WAL-MART.

We have Asda here also (part of the Wal-mart chain). I much prefer Tesco. Call me a snob but you don't get anywhere near as high a percentage of scrotes in our local Tesco.

Dundee gets a hard time from most non-residents ("Scumdee" is the standard epithet) but it's actually a nice town and a decent place to go out on the tiles - good place to be a student. And, on a sunny day overlooking the silvr'y Tay, it can be absolutely beautiful.

And, for the record, when I lived in Aberdeen I never got any grief for being English. Not once.* My job was wank, but I really loved living in Scotland.

(* - this excludes the notorious Hooky DJ night out with Colin. Blame "WIM".)

Dundee gets a right bad press but like Frads says it's actually a very decent place. Small enough to get to know quickly and some great nightlife. Had a couple of mate's at Art School up there and a mate who moved there from Embra a few years back so I've been about a good bit. Plus, the Apex Hotel is one of the best gaffs I've stayed in anywhere ever. Lookin forward to fillin ma boots at their breakfast buffet on Saturday morning. The black pudding is fackin amazin!
