Christmas Number 1

I see from various feeds on my Facebook page that the 'campaign' to get Rage Against the Machine to Xmas number 1 is quite popular. Reasons for this are unknown to me.

First of all, do any of you people actually pay any attention to the chart? Will any of you be glued to Top of the Pops on Xmas day waiting eagerly to find out if its won? Will it make any difference in the grand scheme of things, or will the X Factor winner be towards the end of his journey to Bum city in about six months time?

Second of all, I find it amazing that people will support Rage Against the Machine, especially considering they are releasing the most corporate endorsed, pretend lefist faux rebellion nonsense. It really does beggar belief. Is this kind of utter shite really preferable to meaningless pop drivel that will be forgotten by New Years Day?

The most laughable thing about this whole campaign is that it seems to have emrged itself into some kind of political campaign against the charts. Before the group was yanked down by Facebook, it was already decided that next years song would be something by Sex Pistols. This is like Animal Farm. They have let power go to their heads and are now like the system they want to overthrow.

The whole pathetic rebellion against the X factor and Simon Cowell becomes even more pathetic when you consider the record label that known anti corporation-ists Rage Against the Machine are on. What label? Oh yeah! Epic. A premier subsidary of Sony Music Entertainment. A company that grossed $3.9 Billion dollars in 2008! Yeah, fuck you I wont do what they tell me indeed.

No doubt the usual spiel will follow, and by the end of page 1 someone will no doubt be blaming Thatcher. Nothing like a bunch of pretend lefties getting upset...

It seems there is a sizeable niche demographic of disgruntled 30-somethings out there that needs exploiting.

Presumably if I found a pretty young lady who looked like Andrea from the Darling Buds, clad her in a "I Heart Sarah Records" t-shirt and had her record a song based around jangly guitars called "I'm an 80s Indie Cutie-Pie (But I Staked the Milk Snatcher in the Heart)" and released it only on the cassingle format, I'd surely beat the X-Factor winner to Xmas No.1??

What really is a shame is that for the first time since the 1940s, Cliff Richard will have gone a whole decade without a #1 UK single.

So am I the only one that thinks it's just a little silly, and funny in a childish sort of way. RATM were great for about ......oooh the duration of their first tv apearance on (I think) The Late Show.....ooooooh isn;t that chap making a nice noise with his gweeetar. A week later it was as old as a stegosaur's granny.

And yeah, everything said about above corporate sponsored rebellion etc is spot on.

But still, I must say I will tune in just in case, cos it'll be funny as fuck.

Have to say I always liked RATM's first album, great tunes... but the political lyrics were always wank... but something I could always get over. I think they always envision themselves as an offspring to Bob Marley... which they never were or ever will be. They have been repeating the first album to nauseum, which just goes to show that some bands should quit after their first album.

It's raised cash for Shelter yes. I heard the white rasta on 6Music this morning saying that some of the windfall will go to Shelter. Awful big of him that. Also heard him say the band were going to celebrate tonight by going 'to like, this like real quaint like real proper English Pub in Downtown LA where we're going to like, play some darts and like, drink some pints' Probably paid for by the fucking retards that bought their godawful student shoutfest over the last week.
