But what was the year he slid off in the wet at Monaco, span the car around the tiny run-off area, rejoined in the lead and won the race?

1997 Pretty good, but not as good as Hamilton hitting the wall and twatting a wheel and still winning the race.
My usual, and so far always right, outlet for this manner of thing, pitpass.com is still reporting this as "German media reports that......."
Although I hate the thought of his ugly chin and nazi arrogance ruining a sport which has been better for his departure (I mean imagine not know who's going to win the race!!!), it is nonetheless nice to see him back with Mercedes, who gave him his start as a sportscar driver before he shat on them (and Eddie Jordan) by fucking off to Bennetton.
Heh - no honour amongst thieves though, eh? Much mirth in my house at the media outrage at Mark Hughes's cruel sacking from Manchester City, a club which he joined after walking out on his beloved Blackburn, taking the backroom staff and any players he fancied.
As I've said before, picking goodies and baddies in money sports is a mugs game. I think it's great that Schumacher is coming back, although I take your point that it's just talk at the moment. It will make things more interesting and introduce another layer of competition. I'd rather watch the drivers cheat, bitch and showboat than see (or rather ignore) another season that is dominated by lawyers and PR cnuts.
The 1997 Monaco Grand Prix has very special memories for me, as much for the circumstances in which I watched it than for the merits of the race.
As I've said before I love a bit of cheating in F1....what began to drive me crazy about Von Cobblers was that nothing he did caused any kind of reaction from Max (and I can't see that changing with one of his best friends in Max's old job). Look at what happened to Lewis for bending the truth a bit.....busted badly for lying to the stewards, and Ron Dennis career in ruins. Yet fuckface parked across the track at Monaco, blatantly lied saying he hadn't....and got put back a few grid slots. Maybe it's not so much Schu as Ferrari they are sucking up to......would McRon have been allowed to win a race with an illegal car AND keep their points? (Kimi won Melbourne 08 in a car with a fully movable floor, and all that happened was that they were asked to not bring it again).
Still, if the merc continues the downward spiral of Brawn's performance, he'll be driving a bucket of shit, and that WILL be worth seeing.....watching him cruise round in the best car is so dull if you're not a mulleted hoff loving schumi's army member.
I never understood football....the only place in the world where managers are paid less than staff. Furthermore, anywhere else, managers fuck up and staff are busted and sacked, in football the staff fuck up and the managers get fucked. My brain hurts.
