Movie Soundtracks?

A bit old but def quality though..

Yann Tiersen the artist who did the soundtracks to 'Amelie' and 'Goodbye Lenin' is worth checking out. His last album 'Dust Lane' is fantastic He also says Joy Division are one of his main influences.

I watched Vanilla Sky again a while back and actually quite liked it which i hadn't done on first viewing a few years back. Good soundtrack. Fruer's 'Doot Doot' a highlight

My favourite soundtrack, while probably not what you're after at all, is Don't Look Now. The album's a bit of a bitch to find, but worth it if you fancy several haunting versions of the lovely John's Theme:

(and, of course, best avoided if you don't).

I just looked for the Like button on Johnny's post about Vanilla Sky

I've not seen Wonderland, or heard the rest of the soundtrack, but if it's anything like this then I really should and so should you.

The perverts among you will note that this tune was also used in Michael Winterbottom's Nine Songs; another film that has a great soundtrack (it would though, wouldn't it).

Might be a tad pretentious - but Wim Mertens "Belly Of An Architecht" has a nice chill-out feel.

I'm more a fan of the "random songs from decades past put to good use" soundtrack than the original ones, so my picks would be:

O Brother Where Art Thou? Rushmore (500) Days of Summer Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (better than the movie) The Kids Are Alright (the Who doc, not the new movie)

Do you remember a 1990 instrumental synthesizer cover project by Nick Magnus and Chris Cozens called The Synthesizer Album? You may remember the TV adverts, especially as there was a second album released a year later. My brother bought the original on release (on cassette) for £8.99, before I bought it in the sales for just £2.99 - and didn't I make a deal out of it! :D

Anyway, I have one of these That's Entertainment stores in my new home town, and have found seven CD copies of the music - and bought five of them!

On it you will find Eve Of The War (War Of The Worlds), Chariots Of Fire, Love Theme (from Midnight Express)...

But my favourite track on the album is the Crockett's Theme cover. Well worth listening to, if you can find a copy.

Air's soundtrack to the Virgin Suicides is terrific. For oldies but goodies, check out the soundtrack of Platoon. It has the gorgeous Adagio for Strings as well as '60s standards.

I like the Tron Legacy soundtrack, althought the remix album of the soundtrack is a shocker!

If you are looking for more classical stuff, I'll highly recommend the Soundtrack of the movie "The Legend of 1900". The music is by Ennio Morricone and it is as wonderful as the movie itself (starring my favourite actor Tim Roth).

What about Sunshine - the film by Danny Boyle?

Much of it was composed by Underworld...... and I was even told that in some of the initial trailers there even featured a track by Six By Seven (Another Love Song), but I haven't come across this yet.....

It was used in the movie but it's sadly not on the soundtrack album.

It's such an awesome tune...... I love the wall of sound that they manage to come up with on a lot of that album. Brilliant stuff. :)

I just wish more people had discovered this band too at the time.... they seem all but forgotten about now, except of course the main front man Chris Olley who is still bringing out stuff.

Guitarist Sam Hempton has a new band now. They are starting to search for gigs. Sam was on the first and second album and he rejoined in 2007. So he's on that track, too ;) . But that's OT.
