But that show was the centrepiece on Christmas night on both BBC1 and over here on RTE1, I think I ended up watching part of a concert by Andre Rieu on Christmas night, there was nothing else on [:eek] although earlier in the evening there was Other Voices which featured Richard Hawley, that was a highlight I guess...

oh i LOVED moon! i like how the robot subverts sci-fi tradition by being a goodie. and i like his faces. he single-handedly changed my attitude towards emoticons. didn't like the end though, felt it was a little too neat. agree with you about restless. the first episode seemed v slow, especially. (my mate tom played angus, the scottish fellow with the sticks!)

there are a few good films still on iplayer, i think. i'm going to re-watch blade runner. also looking forward to catching up with the sound of music 'behind the scenes' thing, and the tove jansson doc.

That Moon film I did see a while back and yeah it was a pretty good performance by Sam Rockwell, good that David Bowie's son turns out to be talented in his own right.. That Johnny Cash biopic is on later tonight but I doubt that I will get to see it..

i think hitchcock really was a bit of a rotten bastard. i find it fascinating that despite his obvious insight into sexual desire and dysfunction, he was so guilty of it himself. the plot of vertigo is very reminiscent of his relationship with tippi hedren. there are a couple of good books on this i want to read now. and it will be interesting to see the anthony hopkins/helen mirren/scarlett johansson take on this theme when that film comes out. (btw, speaking of SJ, if i was unimpressed with her before, that LUDICROUS perfume ad has really tipped her over into major irritant.)

I saw a little of the Star Gazing event this week and as we were watching it I posed the question to my girlfriend, who do you prefer? Chris Lintott or Brian Cox, she went for the former... So there you go...

They were discussing meteorites and I was reminded of the fact that I actually have one at home.. I found it when I was in my early teens, maybe I should have it authenticated but the slim chance that the experts would say "that's no meteorite" has always put me off the idea...

I haven't noticed that one myself but something odd spelling wise happened to me today, I was given a CV to hand in at work on behalf of this guy who I actually don't know but who is currently out of work and as the envelope it was in was unsealed I had to have a look at it.. It was full of really stupid childish spelling mistakes.. Do people think spelling doesn't matter anymore?

I found it in a field on a farm that had sort of shallow trenches dug in in it for drainage purposes which caused lots of small rocks to be unearthed, my job was to clear them up, this small odd burned looking rock caught my eye and so I brought it home with me, it's pretty small and would fit in the palm of your hand.

I find it annoying when people talk about "plating up" food... I blame those TV chefs...

No one cares about spelling anymore - they have Spellcheck on their emails and Word documents, or they deliberately misspell in texts. I'm guilty of this myself. In fact i was told off recently for typing loose in a text message. Silly of me, as the idea is to shorten words in text messages rather than elongate them. Nonetheless my defence was something like this: Pronounce these words: Bose Hose Nose Pose Rose Now pronounce Lose.

Pronounce these words: Choose Snooze Zoos Boos Igloos Poos (probably appropriate for this post)

So going by the above examples lose should really be spelt loose. People may argue that loose is of course a completely different word, with another meaning. But sometimes a word can be spelt the same way and have two different meanings. Eg: Wind (moving air) or wind (to wind your watch). So why not have the 'loose' spelling covering lose and loose? (Rhetorical question; please don't answer with: "because that's not what's in the dictionary").

There's sort of a flaw in my 'wind' example but I'm not going to point it out...

Anyway that's my defence for misspelling lose. I'm not sure if this post counts as anally retentive but um, I feel a bit weird now...

someone i trained with teaches english at a secondary school in town. not a week goes by that she doesn't post a facebook status riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes. not typos. now that DOES make me cross. recently she referred to her hamster as a new "edition" to the family. let's burn her.

(incidentally, far, FAR worse than making spelling/grammar/punctuation errors is publicly correcting them on a social network. that really is outrageously rude/smug/pedantic/idiotic/fucking annoying.)

I 've seen them each late afternoon /dusk this week over the park about half mile from my house.Always seems to be this time of year (February) you see it. Great to watch

Starlings I think, I used to see them before doing something similar over a small lake in my town which has an island in the centre of it, I used to love seeing them but if they happened to swoop over your head you would get hit by a lot of bird droppings...

we watched top gun instead on e4 and taped the birds. i've not seen it in yonks either, looking forward to it.

that new fillum with anthony hopkins and co is out this weekend. i read a thing the other day about how hitch had never intended psycho to be taken seriously - which i can kind of believe. it's almost pantomimey in parts, don't you think? or is that because those elements have entered our cultural lexicon?

Don't think i was ever a big fan of Pyscho. Saw it maybe once or twice but it obviously never did much for me. The Birds is better though my favourite scene is actually the opening one in the bird shop with Melanie and Mitch

i thought black mirror was very very good. could have gone darker. could have been longer. slightly disappointing ending. felt a bit like an early draft. but overall i liked it a lot. a sort of eternal sunshine in reverse (there's the potential for a fantastic film in the premise, actually).

A good haul, I haven't gone to one of those record fairs for years but now with HMV gone I may have to attend the next one that hits my town.. Either that or just buy all my music online from now on

Two remaining studio albums I'm still after on vinyl are Republic and Get Ready. Seen Republic vinyl on eBay £25 and Get Ready on Discogs £55. Bought WFTSC vinyl a few years back and bought Lost Sirens on vinyl on its release last month.

So tonight is surely the first time that an artist who has been remixed by a member of New Order will have gone on to perform at Eurovision. My feeling on that remix is that it was an improvement on the original, but the original wasn't my cup of tea in the first place.
