Ha ha - I never looked at it like that - but now you mentioned it, it's uncanny. 
But the real answer isn't quite as cool sounding as that unfortunately - it's only me having a little dig at my wife's expense. She used to be one of those.....GOTHIC types.....when she were a student. It also sums up my rather bemused attitude to people who still dress like that to this day (all your Cybergoth Marilyn Mansonites and the like!) ;)
