So I finally decided to install the scanner that came with this computer. And I'll be doing it this weekend - or plan to - while my family's away, and I have to "house-sit". But, I lost the instructions, but have the software for the scanner and Photoshop and am wondering
do I do to get this thing working? Does anyone know how to install one, or even simpler than that, what port do on the cpu (for a Dell with XP) do I plug the scanner into?

Also have a Dell with XP, with an all in one printer/scanner/copier. As far as I can remember, I just connected to any free USB port (at the back of the computer, just leaving front ones free for cameras, etc.), inserted the CD & followed on-screen instructions. Presume it's much the same with a stand-alone scanner. I'm not big on instruction manuals as a rule, which is quite stupid at times!
I should add that when I got my PC, I hadn't been near a computer for about 10 years & new nothing about my new system (& not a lot has changed 8 months on:)), but had my printer/scanner up & running perfectly 1st time, so it shouldn't be too much trouble.
Yeah, your scanner is most probably plug&play, so XP will recognize it. Then make sure to run the installation CD for more commodity.
After that, it's all a matter of learning the software, which can be a hassle.
