It's been some time since I have posted, I guess a career in law does that....eats up your time. But I've been following all the news. My girlfriend is a two-time Coachella goer and has mentioned how important it is to arrange accomodations for partying. I plan on booking this weekend and wanted to know if any NOOLers had set up a base camp hotel, or if anyone had thought about this?

Really looking forward to this trip. I am a NO live virgin and can't take any chances that they will play other shows in the US.

Cheers!

I'll be camping. Look for the "I Got a Cock Like the M1" flag near me tent. Probably be whereing a similar t-shirt.

I just found out I have enough air miles to fly to LA for free! So I'm 99% sure I will be going. I'm going tob start booking car rental and air this week.

But I do have a question. Is camping free? If not I might be sleeping in my car. And get a hotel in LA after the show.

I'll book a hotel for April 29th,30th and May 1st as there's acts I'll want to see on both days.

how soon will the tix sellout for this?

i really want to go but gotta figure it out quick first....

you think i have another 24 hours before they sell out???

With a lineup like that one, it's likely it will sell out quick, especially since tickets were on sale before they announced the lineup.

There is no chance on Earth something like that can happen here... seeing all those bands at the same time is seriously sounding interesting.

Though most of these bands might actually come to Montreal, not New Order... if I wish to see New Order one last time, I'd probably settle for a trip to England.

Unless somebody is driving down there from the east coast :evil4:, it's the whole idea of not being with New Order fans that is a bit annoying.

Bah I was hoping they would go on sale a month later.

If I got it right, there is no ticket for a single day... you pay and you get BOTH days...

Nah, you can buy a single day...

Of course it will sell out. There are enough NIN fans and girls who love Conor Oberst in order to sell 50,000 tickets at 80 dollars a pop.

I dunno, I just don't see NIN as strong headliners. The first day looks more stacked. Yeah, Bright Eyes is all the rage, but I don't think anyone cares about New Order beyond them performing BLT and Blue Monday. I'm not complaining though. I want it that way, makes it easier to get a closer spot.

i think it will sell out. last year, day 1 (with pixies and radiohead) sold out way ahead of the event, but day 2 was still open. day 2 sold out as day 1 was going on. people do hang around for the 2nd day.

i'm gonna be there for sure. got my hotel reservation and am going to live large by the pool before the shows!

What are the chances of seeing Trent Reznor joining the band for playing Dead Souls? :ignore:

i bet it won't happen.

I just calculated, and it would cost me 1200$ CDN to attend the 2 days of Coachella.

Not convinced this is worth it... and I can't bypass the airfare that is 500$, but then you have to find a place to stay for 3 nights and rent a damned car.. (or sleep in the damned car which is filled with food)

Plus, everybody talked about the heat... I seriously have issues with that, will have to travel with a tank of water...

Now, that is probably the prince it would cost be for a trip to England for 2 days.

Plus, you don't want to just do that on your first visit to California, isn't it? :(

More chance of Hooky joining NIN on stage if they play it as an encore than there is of New Order playing it.

I've been working it all out, and I can't make it worth the trip to California for a one hour set. Sure, I'd love to see California and all the NOOL people as well, but without some other gigs over the same few days (I'd have to stay a week to get the best flight deals) it ain't gonna be economically viable, especially as I don't drive.

Where is Coachella and how much would it cost me to get there from sunny Rotherham?

The average high temp at Palm Springs for that time of year is in the low nineties, so if it is warmer than usual day, then it could easily be 100 degrees fahrenheit.

it was ten degrees above average last year - i think in the high-90s, maybe even 100. hot, Hot, HOT!

just be prepared - wear sunscreen and hats for shade.

a couple years ago, i think it was the 2003 coachella with beastie boys, underworld, etc., interpol played during the evening of the first night, and those guys came out wearing their black suits (actually, I remember the hives doing the same thing, but during the DAY :confused2: ). it was amazing to see what a band would do in the hot sun to maintain the look, you know?

Hi all. :)

I don't post much, so most of you probably don't know me, but my boyfriend and I will be going (assuming, of course, that we get tickets). Aside from flying from Boston to CA and listening to good music, we have no further plans, but we'd be up for coordinating with anyone who might be interested in driving, camping, hotels, etc... If you're interested, drop me an e-mail (the address is in my profile).

For those of you who have never been, here are some words of wisdom from my gf:

  1. you cannot camp out in your car overnight - parking lot closes 2 hours or so after last band (all cars left will be towed)

  2. camping is cheap, but limited and fairly disgusting.

  3. saturday has sold out i believe the last three years, but never sunday....too many so cal peeps got work.

I have booked the room - a robust $152.00 for three nights in palm springs (rooms still available as of 8:00pm EST)

I will post or provide the information at your request....

I really can't wait - the first day is stacked (the Cocteau's haven't played in years) and I'll get nice lag time leading up to New Order on the second day, but I am looking forward to Kasabian, the Futureheads, and Sloan that day.....

Cheers!!

Crap, I remember that I have a WEDDING to attend on April 30th.

I'm screwed!

I have decided to only buy a ticket for the 2nd day, and drive the 2 hours there later in the day just to see New Order and jet after that!

If you are going to stay for Coldplay, beware. I went in 2002 and after the headline band finished it took us 2 hours just to get out of the parking lot. It is NOT organized!

The Cocteaus haven't played for years because they split up with minimal fanfare in 1996. I met Robin Guthrie at a gig some years back and asked him about the possibility of getting back together and he absolutely ruled it out, citing his "impossible" (his words) relationship with Liz.

I was fucking gobsmacked when I saw their name on the poster....

I for real am going. Coming from Michigan, flying into LAX on april 30. We are looking at Lake La Quinta Inn, quite costly but wife likes. I haven't seen them since 1989 and was planning on having to go to the U.K. this tour, but this trip will be much easier and shorter(don't like to leave the kids for too long).

I'd love to see NO in California. But I don't want to go there so much - first, I've hardly got enough money, secondly, I don't know how to get to there, for I have no car. :( But maybe I will... The thing is that by April I'd definitely would have funds but not now.. but then there'll be no tickets available...

I WISH New Order would tour some midwest, or give just FOUR concerts in America: New York, Canada, Dallas, Los Angeles - that would satisfy almost averybody over here. Too bad there are no other festivals around. :nonono::uhoh:

Personally leaning here toward just attending Sunday's show; I've really no interest in Coldplay, I don't mind Weezer on the radio, I doubt the Chemicals could top the show I'd caught previously of theirs; Bauhaus and the Cocteaus are the only reasons I might change my mind on that.

Still haven't heard back from my brother, so I'm gonna look for just one night's lodging at this point.

Would it really be only a two hour drive from Burbank to Coachella, April? That's where my brother lives, so I might take that scenario into consideration. I'd probably also leave after NO, don't really need to ever see Nine Inch Nails after having seen Einzsturzende Neubauten in my life.

I've booked a hotel in Palm Springs April 29th - May 2nd. Just waiting to pick up my tickets at the local TicketBastard outlet tomorrow.

I don't know about having a "Base Camp" as the hotels are filling up fast. We could at least organise a get together on the Friday. For those only going to the Second night we could also organise an after-show on the Saturday.

Price payed for 2 tickets at a local Wherehouse TicketMaster outlet was $357.80. I'm glad I didn't pay extra to have them mailed! I don't like those e-mailed tickets much either. They don't look quite right in the ticket collection.

Yes I am going.

I got a ticket (On my first try) for May 1 I dont care about the first day. After taxes was $99.30

I got a Flight to Palm Spings on April 29 and will be landing 1:00pm. I fly free with my air miles, but still had to pay $152.12 in taxes (My god, they have a tax for everything!) I got lucky and my city has direct flights to Palm Springs. And I will be going home May 2

I have a car rental with Alimo.

And I have a Hotel at Vagabond inn Palm Springs

So I'm ready to go. (As far as I know I'm the only Canadian from Nool going?)

Hey all,

Just bought my tickets as well.

I am not quite sure if anyone of you remember, but this is Vincent here in Los Angeles. Back in August 2001, I met up with John Frye, T. Ivarsson and a few lads from England at the Devore show. We stuck as a group throughout the concert and even stayed for Moby's New Dawn Fades perfomance. We even took pictures with a huge union jack. After the show, I sent a couple of the lads back to a motel out here in Marina Del Rey.

Will be nice if we all can meet up again. :thumb:

Vince, yes, do remember you and still appreciate the ride you gave us back to Washington Blvrd. Otherwise we were looking at trying to get a cab from the middle of nowhere.

What a great gig that Devore show was. Vividly recall a whole group of us in a huddle jumping up and down to Temptation at the end of the set. That flag, with 'Ceremony' written across it, is carefully stored away at my house, but it may get another airing soon.

Bought my ticket yesterday and another lad from our 2001 party, Gordie, is coming too. Still hoping Al Jarvis will crack and come along too.

Send me a pm and we'll sort out a meet. As you say, would be good to catch up again.

Cheers

Hey all,

So my plans for a night out in the Valley are slowing gaining steam. Please review the below info provided by a local for our consideration. Personally, the Ale House sounds good to me...I'm staying in Palm Springs, but then again, the Village Lounge sounds cool with more love music for the weekend....something to consider....if you are going to Coachella and want to party with NOOLers, please weigh in with your thoughts.....

Kinda depends on where you're staying in the valley. If you're staying near Palm Desert, I'd recommend the Village Lounge on Highway 111, which has original alternative bands. If you're staying near Palm Springs, which is about a half-hour from the Coachella site, I'd recommend the Ale House, which featured the only local Coachella band a couple weeks ago. Both are really informal and offer plenty of opportunities to drink.

Looking forward to letting the festivities begin.....

Cheers!!! Joe :spit:

I got the TICKET for May 1!!!

Now I'm concerned how to get to there from Texas. I don't need any hotel, I guess. I'd cope with staying awake for 24 hours (money is the issue, of course ;) ).

So... TEXANS, who is really going to Coachella? I've never been anywhere outside Texas and, secondly, I still have to figure out the ways to get to there. :hat:

I did it only in desperation that NO would likely never perform again in the US.

Hello All...

Haven't posted in years, but I've got good info on Coachella for ya. I've been every year, and I must say that the only time it was unbearably hot was Saturday of last year (about 105). Usually it may crack 90, but if the winds kick in at night it gets chilly. Still worth it with the lineup, every year. I live in Orange County (yes, the dreaded OC), so the drive is about two hours. For those of you who are worried about the hotel situation, you may want to stay in the San Bernardino/Redlands area, it's about an hour west of Indio. There is no way I will miss New Order, and I look forward to meeting some of you! If you have questions about the area, feel free to ask, I've lived in SoCal my entire life!

i got a flight into Ontario, how far is that from Palm Springs?

Ontario Airport is a little over a one hour drive to Palm Springs. Ontario is the closest major airport to the desert area. Other major airports withing about 2 hours are John Wayne (OC), San Diego and LAX.

Yes Johnny! I remember you now and Gordie too. Who else was there? I am trying to get hold of John Frye and T (whom already moved back to Sweden).

But yes, let's meet up again. I should be wearing the same ol' t-shirt. We will get in touch again when the date draws nearer.

i'm staying at a Casino resort about 30mi up the road from Indio on I-10.

i wasn't too excited about this year until i saw the first rumor of New Order playing and once they were confirmed i booked my trip 48 hours later.

i picked up a flight from Tampa to Palm Springs on priceline for about $220 RT, so i was pretty happy!

Well i just purchased my tickets for the shin-dig in the desert of Indio, California. Actually, doesn't seem like that much of a trek to catch NEW order in concert.

Incredibly, this will be the 4th US tour I'll see NEW order on. Technique-'89 Milwaukee, Republic-'93 Chicago, Get Ready-2001 Area 51 somewhere in California, Waiting for the Sirens' Call-Cochella 2005.

I've ordered a replica of the '89 USA tour shirt so should be easily recognizable.

So where exactly is the base camp?

i tried expedia.com, orbitz.com, and eventually priceline.com. i got the best deal on priceline (about $75 less than the other sites), but you have to be willing to pay up front. out of TX you should easily be able to fly into Palm Springs from Dallas/Houston/El Paso/etc.
