Being temporarily engaged in most things NO I decided to rattle my grey matter to try and figure out the best gig from the 142 I attended.

Obviously, many aspects add to the overall experience of a gig but what I was looking for when looking back was the ONE which incorporated all the factors which made NO such an outstanding, and unique band in the process.

For me the one gig which summarises everything the band were all about is the BRIXTON ACE gig in March 1983.

EXCEPTIONAL performance, just the 8 songs, and brilliantly played. No hint of an encore and the usual (at that time) barracking of the band. For some reason a popular heckle in the direction of Hook for quite a while was 'YOU, FAT BAST**D!' - which brought a classic response from him that evening of 'You're supposed to Fookin CIVILISED!'

THAT was New Order.
