Ma heid's fuckin bangin!
A long day yesterday, left Corby at 7 in the morning for the Celtic game, disappointing result as we were robbed of a blatant penalty when we were cruising at 3-1 
Ach well, the gig more than made up for it and we managed to bump into just about everyone from here, I also met a few new faces, big up to Steven (Out Of Order) for coming to meet us before the Celtic game....a Rangers fan coming to a Tim pub and he was a top lad, we also met up with him at the gig. I also remember meeting Royser and Missy Jem down at the front of the gig.
Ness was sporting TARTAN Viking headgear, supplied by Biginoil 
Also got to have a great craic with DoN, Rocket, JT( who had done an Alan Bradley with a tram) Lucy (who swears she never pushed JT), Jarvo (The VIKING badge God), Johnny Giles, Mandy (but Hibster wasnae with us - he was whoring it up with his press pass pals :D ) Vinnie, Greg, Ally, Biginoil, Baldrick, John & Lorraine (Mr & Mrs Schumaker) Danny German Order, Darren Welsh Order, Gary, Gordy, Alex and John, Uncle Liam, Mike Garrity and Frads (a pair of tubes in Hawaiin T's and Shorts AND the Stoke flag) and there were probably loads more, but I was very drunk :D
We did the usual and stayed at the bar till neworder came on, (except for when we heard Barney singing HIT THE NORTH - we dived in to see that) then made a mad dash to get down the front just in time. All the talk of a Joy Division only set hadnae put anyone off - cos there was a BIG rumour doing the rounds we were gonna get a song from Still which hadnae been played since 1980. Jarvo and JG said it was from the Birmingham concert so we thought we were gonna get Disorder.
I can't remember what order the set was played cos I was too busy diving around and singing along like a mad eedjit. I have to say the crowd was fucking brilliant, ten times better than the Apollo gig a month or two back 
The place was also packed to the rafters which quelled our fears of not many people being there!!! The "mosh pit" was crazy and we had to hang on for dear life at times and I remember falling over some guy on the floor. Brilliant. Thanks to John and Steven and a couple of others for getting us to our feet again.
24 Hours was fucking outstanding, Uncly John had tears in his eyes! Everyone was going mental. To top things off we also got a neworder track thrown in 
The band are / were fucking great and it more than made up for the disappointment of being robbed by Dundee Utd at Paradise.

excellent gig- 24 hours was awesome. NO looked relaxed and played really well. Stood near the front the atmosphere was very good. Night is a bit hazy due to alcohol consumption but ghost in my house played by Bernard and Johnny and Doves? I was a little disappointed that we weren't treated to any electronic tracks.
Highlight for me though was Johnny and Andy doing How soon is now and There is a light...Never thought I would see these 2 play live again.
Yeah, against all my expectations the gig was wonderful: crowd were fantastic like Shuglet says, people falling down all over the place, and even one pretty vicious bout of mass fisticuffs near me made it seem like them good old days!! Surprised by how many 'youngsters' (ie - people obviously in their 20s) were down the front, though it was clear how sedate everything had been previously by the number of people literally running away in terror as New Order started up!! Really, really enjoyed it - and I was stone cold sober.
Good to meet everyone, faces both old & new, and the gig finished with a 20 minute jam of the Mondays "Wrote for Luck" played by a combo of all the (piss) artists & Mr Ryder himself.
Gig highlight of the night: Barney beaming like a proud father at Shaun Ryder during said "WFL" - he looked genuinely happy, and it took about 15 year off him. He should do it more often.
I was Bah humbug about this from the start but ended up really enjoying the gig. Meet up as good as ever, nice to see you all.
As for Norder, I can't remember the last time I saw them play as well, they seemed fired up for this and am I alone in thinking that note was taken of comments on this board? Few cock ups, no whooping (until LWTUA), no whistling, faster pace on Warsaw. All in all excellent, pity about the leg.
Despite disliking the venue, if anyone has got their head screwed on they should capitalise on the the fact they stormed a capacity audience there and rebook it. As Norder this time.
It was BLOODY MARVELLOUS.24 HOURS was superb.The band were excellent.I was SOBOERISH to so can remember most of it.Met loads of NOOL's too.Great company especially DR CLAYHEAD in the gig.A lot of laughs too.Numerous NOOL's hanging about all at the front.Sorry to any i didn't get chance to speak to properly.Johnny Marr and the HEALERS,DOVES and BARNEY doing VISCIOUS and the old NORTHERN SOUL(was into this for about 8 years) classic GHOST IN MY HOUSE were ALL superb.And what a great TRAGIC ending.MR RYDER with his hood up slouched on stage like the BADDIE in a PANTOMIME and said"I WANT A PISS".Barney also turned up during this.Who was the guy in the YELLOW COAT though?And to round off a great evening i met JOHN COOPER CLARKE!Shook his hand and with my penchant for KFC-EVIDENTLY CHICKENTOWN
I won't name all those i saw but great to meet BARNEY'S ANGELS too.And once again MIKE thanks for a ROOM WITH A VIEW,ELECTRONIC DVD from DON and a BADGE OF HONOUR from our leader MR ALAN JARVIS.And to the rest of you mad sods.....see you at the NEXT one.
Want to quickly echo JT's comment about "Warsaw" - whereas "Shadowplay" still sounds like porridge, they seem to have really put the fire into the former tune - it sounded fucking great last night!! Thanks to the lovely Royser & his equally lovely missus for guiding me hand-in-hand to the front - though said good lady vanished pretty quickly once it got a bit lairy - I hope she was OK, especially as her hubby seemed more interested in pogoing his way through the gig!! Word of warning: I did something very similar at Reading 1998 and it was the beginning of the end of a 7 year relationship: YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! Cheers also to ROCKET MICK for sage advice!!
Thanks also to Colin/BIGINOIL for trying to put his tongue down my throat. Although initially intimidated, I grew to quite like the idea......especially with the line "Fucking come on!! Can't I put just a bit of it in your mouth??!!??".

ROCKET! It was a bit mental in moss-pit,soory I didn't get to speak to you mate.
The Whole Night made me proud to be a MANC.
Got there about 7pm and it was just getting going. Highlight of the night too numerous to mention.....but here goes!
UTAH SAINTS exonorated themselves with an excellent mash-up of GORILLAZ' "Dare" and NO's "Confusion". DOMINO BONES no prizes for Bez on vocals,but the guy always makes me smile.Geordie singer was ace though. NINE BLACK ALPS top band/revelation! ELBOW not heard much of theirs but they were great.Guy Garvey popped up a few times in the night with some collaborations. DOVES brilliant,loved Pounding and Snowdon.Joined on stage by Barney and performed Vicious of Lou Reed's Transformer album. And "There's a Ghost In My House" R Dean Taylor/FALL classic! 808 STATE peforming what seemed to be a ten minute version of Pacific! Oh and Cubik,and The Only Rhyme That Bites with MC Tunes performing like a mad bastard!
BADLY DRAWN BOY Liam's favourite! Great segue of Like A Virgin and Silent Sigh.
JOHNNY MARR and THE HEALERS & ANDY ROARKE! What can I say? It was one of those moments where you wanted someone to come over and pinch you."There Is A Light" and "How Soon Is Now"....need I say more?
Oh forgot STEPHEN FRETWELL too who did a great chillout acoustic set. Guests on stage included John Thompson(Fat Bob),Frank Sidebottom,Justin Moorhouse(Kenny Junior),Paddy McGuinness (ding dang do),Alan Wise and Tony Wilson (who got booed).Heh heh.Oh and John Cooper Clarke.."the next band need no introduction....they've known each other for years!"
NEW ORDDDAAHHH! As was rumoured all JD set with a surprise addition of 24 Hours,and ended with CEREMONY.They were blinding! (PS Who's CLANCY?)
I lost my voice half way through Warsaw...31G...3ig..cough!
And the finale? Just about everyone came on stage! I counted about 7/8 guitarists and 2 bassists.WALL OF SOUND! Joined on stage by SHAUN RYDER pissed as usual,singing WFL with an added chorus of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"!!

Where did everyone go by the way? It was a shame about DRY turing people away at 5.30.They wouldn't even give us a time when they would let us in.So me,Banshee and Theresa went to BAR FRINGE with Desmond and Wixey.

Finally got home 3.30 freezing me nuts off flagging a taxi down....bribed a taxi to take me 6 miles for £20!
Do we know who was filming it and why? IE - will it be on telly, or are they planning a DVD "for charideee"? Or, indeed, both??
Just got back to London. Great night! Hi to everyone I met and those I didn't. Will even forgive whoever it was who danced on my toes and chucked up on me boots YEUCH! Not a NOOLER of course...
NO were excellent and the men arena didn't seem half as big as I expected it to be. Quite cosy down the front.... Nice to see Johnny Marr in action Ryder was completely out of it but Bez was looking pretty sprightly!

I remember legging it round the MEN as they wouldnt let me in to see Elbow and had to go to get in. As i was doing this, i saw midnight blue, ness, rocket and a few others and just had to start a "NUUUUU ORDAH!" chant.
highlights were;
24 hours
doves (when playing doves tracks)
but most of all THERE'S A LIGHT THAT NEVER GOES OUT. it took me completely by surprise and i got a bit emotional.
really really good do all round but the end was a bit surreal,i could not stop laughing at shaun rider
shame we left jb's a 5.15 to go onto the dry bar which was shut,so didnt get to speak to some people i wanted to apart from andrew,diggy mike,rocket mick,liam,al,shaun and of course des.
after the gig went to celler vie with monty.it was like a cruise ship 70's disco.ended up having a laugh though after lots of tequila shots and then watching monty dancing to 'panic' morrissey style.flowers swinging round head and all,ha ha bet you have a hangover.

the relly best bit of the gig was them people with red jackets on and beer barrels on their back.everytime my lager glass was empty they filled it up straight away. NOW THAT IS QUALITY

The whole weekend from start to finish (and i mean right up to getting back on that train home! Wetherspoon, Manchester- lunchtime today- not laughed so much for years-you all know who you are), and New Order were more than brilliant!

Just got back from Mancland. Great weekend all round, almost a shame a gig popped up in the middle of it and we had to leave the pub(s).
Stand by what I said about the venue. It's shit. Could hardly see your hand in front of your face. And it's way too big and impersonal. Got in there to see Badly Drawn Boy doing Like A Virgin and turned straight round and headed to the bar to drink with the Corby Order et al, not returning till 5mins before the Real Order were on stage.
Think my feelings about all JD sets are already known so wasn't really fussed about this one. Just went and stood to the far right of the stage with Iain, and our favourite member of the Third, Kevo. But the bass was just way too much there - V came looking for me about 3 songs in but couldn't stand the vibrations and promptly fcut off to powder her nose in the bog. I wandered off to look for her during 24Hours and was up by the mixing desk when Ceremony kicked in. Just me, the only cnut back there on his own punching the air like a right royal twat. It wasn't on the setlist so guess it was an impromptu addition?!
Congrats to Wolfram for missing the gig though cos he became the father of twin girls yesterday. I dunno, some of the excuses people will use. ;)
Ceremony seemed to be news to Barney. He'd said goodnight, left the stage, queued for a taxi home and popped the milk on for his cocoa before Hooky dragged him back.
Ryder was a star for lumbering on with his hoodie pulled low, flanked as ever by Bez. A few verses in, he pulled back his hood to reveal himself. As if it could be ANYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD
Has anyone else mentioned Tony Wilson's shameless taking over of Alan Wise's introduction? He galantly accepted the mic from the Wise one, then said something like "Here are New Order". Come on gob-on-legs you can do better than that!

I lost my brand spankin' new Vikings badge in the moshpit.It was my first ever one as well.
The JD songs were alright.But the Wrote For Luck jam at the end was the better crack
keep those reviews coming, absolutely pumped you guys got to see such a turn out from the Order.
I have to say I wasn't looking forward to this gig after the JD set was announced. However in the end it turned out to be excellent.
We arrived at Manchester at around 5.00. The wife then dragged me round the shops as we haven't been to Manchester city centre before. We had some scran in the Bella Italia before heading to the MEN. We got to our speck on the floor right by the mixing desk to the left and stayed there all night. 808 took to the stage and were excellent especially Cubik which was a surprise to hear.
The highlights were Johnny Marr's band especially the Smiths songs which got everyone going. I had a feeling Barney would pop up in the Doves set and out of the two performed I thought Ghost was the best. Elbow were quite good too.
New Order were simply brilliant. They were very tight with few bum notes and by the mixing desk the sound was quite reasonable, much better than the Apollo. 24 Hours was superb and again performed very well. Even Shadowplay was a lot better than the mess at the Apollo. Ceremony was another great surprise. So much so Barney didn't even know they were playing it!
We left during Ryder and co as the wife had sprained her ankle and after four hours standing had had enough.
The only NOOLER's I saw were standing prior to NO's set at the left of the mixing desk toward the back. One had a Hawaiian shirt on with shorts and the other lad had a coloured hooped jumper on. They were then joined by a third lad with I think a green NO t-shirt. I would have said hello but I was propping the wife up at the time and couldn't leave her.
All in all an enjoyable night but New Order blew the rest of 'em away.
Not so much of a gig review, rather more a bloody good night out review. Got in Dry at around 5:15 only to be told by the worst bar staff in the world that "we are fucking shut, didn't you understand!!" and were promptly escorted out. Me JT and Fradders headed to JB's where the usual suspects were. Great to see everybody. Excellent time with JG, Al, Johnny, BA and the rest and lovely to meet Wino and Bonzette for the first time.
Moved on, incident with tram leaves JT with one good leg and a lot of pain. Was very brave but that was due to beer mainly.
Superb time drinking at MEN with Jimll and Andrew Sayer excellent conversations to be continued at NOOL day
Great to see Shug and Corby order, thanks to Lorraine for the photos. Shame we didn't all have more time to chat. Similarly superb time with new second best mate Ness!!
Big thanks to GaryMac who acted as my cushion and protector for the whole of the NO set. Yes I got right down the front despite a rather hostile (not NOOLERS) crowd. It was bloody superb. A rather nice touch also from Hooky who made a dedication in memory of one of GaryMacs family members who had recently passed away. Cheers Hooky.
A cracking good night. Looking forward to NOOL day when we can all catch up properly and have a bloody good time.

Everybody has said almost everything, but got to comment on a fantastic day and night.
It is almost as exciting getting to chat to a group of lovely people all day as it is to see NO. Good to meet a few new ones as well.
As usual the urge to enter the auditorium didn't occur until just before they came on. However, I 'forced' myself to watch a bit of the legend Johnny Marr and managed to catch most of Barney with Doves.
Liam your 'Nuuu Ordah' chant was totally unbelievable
Al Jarvis came top in the best dressed stakes!
Thanks to Don for helping my stay upright during the gig, thankfully he was wearing a strong belt!

Martin- getting to the front was a team effort! my brassneck, my wifes charm and your stop/start technique (stopping during 'there goes the fear' and then making a final dash to the front when it finished).
She became a victim of all the young-un's who only piled forward for LWTUA. she fell and hurt her thumb, but thoroughly enjoyed the gig from a bit further back. I had to give her my jacket on the (freezing)walk home to the hotel afterwards as an appology for abandoning her. So all is still well 
I'll post my review later.

Got in Joshua Brooks at about 4, i only recognised one face - Liam. I approached him and said (holding out my hand), "Liam, Missy Jem". To which Liam looked me up and down, sniffed, looked away and said "alright". I thought 'what a miserable tw*t!' He's a slow burner though and by the end of the night we were buddies and i knew he was alright cos he bought me a straight brandy!
Spent much of the first hour trying to work out who everybody was, i recognised most of the vikings anyway. Didn't get much chance to introduce myself though as everyone was in deep conversation. Did however, meet Bonzette, Wino and BA. Also recognised Johnny but only had time for a quick hello! We then went to O'shays then Fridays to catch the end of the Bolton V Arsenal game (RESULT! Sorry Bonz!)
Biginoil was a pain in the arse, and i'm glad i won't be seeing him again for a while :evil4@:
Oh and Al Jarvo came over with the ulterior motive of staring at my friends tits apparently! I'd like to say it was a pleasure - but it wasn't

I can remember getting to the MEN between 8 and half past, a few bevvies and then into my cosy "seat" just the left of the stage, really good actually, all the atmosphere, none of punches in the face, although during Joy Division that mosh pit looked frightening.
about the gig, well, I thought it sounded awful, probably down to the acoustics in the MEN, it doesn't lend itself well to gigs, despite the fact bands keep wanting to play there!
About the acts: Badly Drawn Boy - saw 2 songs, at the end of his set, I think he's crap, if you want to see him for free go have a pint on a Sunday and the Horse and Jockey in Chrolton, he lives around there. he looks like a busker, and thats his limit I'm afraid.
Johnny Marr - sublime, tell you what, who needs Morrissey on that performance? As much as I loved the Smiths and would like a reunion Johnny showed he can sing and the 2 Smiths songs he played (there is a light / how soon is now) were amazing, loved it.
Doves - For me the highlight of the night, they have come a long way since Sub Sub, and they really captured the spirit of the evening, with it being a charity gig and all, I think some people have lost sight of that fact.
Joy Division - erm, wasn't this supposed to be New Order? I have a lot of affection for Joy Division songs, but lets face it, they are heavy lyrics and its not such a novelty for them to play these songs, it seems every gig is now splattered with JD songs, which is a shame for those of was wanting to hear classics from PCL, LowLife and Technique. I guess the change of direction has alot to do with the Ian Curtis biopic and I'm guessing we'll get a movie tie in JD soundtrack as the new album. Funny though, that the JD songs sound more relevant today, they sound like they belong in todays scene rather than 1977.
Shaun Ryder - WTF? or should that be WFL - awful encore, Manchester's version of hey Jude? god help us. I counted over 15 guitarists on stage during that song.

I guess the change of direction has alot to do with the Ian Curtis biopic and I'm guessing we'll get a movie tie in JD soundtrack as the new album. Funny though, that the JD songs sound more relevant today, they sound like they belong in todays scene rather than 1977.
Shaun Ryder - WTF? or should that be WFL - awful encore, Manchester's version of hey Jude? god help us. I counted over 15 guitarists on stage during that song.

A great day from the pre-gig meetup to the post-gig confusion .
First of all as mentioned by Lucyjane in her review , a big thanks to Hooky , my Stepfather died a fortnight ago from complications following surgery for prostrate cancer , my Stepsister Diane is married to Chris Hook , Hooky's younger Brother , so the mention given the nature of the event had a certain poignancy , my Mother and family were touched by the mention when I relayed the news back , so thanks Pete . Ron Brierly possibly Hooky's oldest fan, R.I.P
A few people I met were asking who Bryan Glancy R.I.P was, he was a local musician of some standing , well respected in the area , a contemporary of Johnny Dangerously or John Bramwell ( I am Kloot ) as he now calls himself ,pretty much of the Oldham road set , nice fella , I dont know the circumstances of his death , but at the age of 39 it was certainly too soon , sympathy to his family and friends.
On a lighter note , great to actualy have a proper conversation with Jarvo and JG , I invariably arrive too late and too pissed for a semi rational conversation , so it was good to be early enough to semi compos mentis , although too late for me second Vikings badge:\ohwell: Was introduced too a good few folk but Digis loud shirt crew mixed me head a bit.

Martin- getting to the front was a team effort! my brassneck, my wifes charm and your stop/start technique (stopping during 'there goes the fear' and then making a final dash to the front when it finished). She became a victim of all the young-un's who only piled forward for LWTUA. she fell and hurt her thumb, but thoroughly enjoyed the gig from a bit further back. I had to give her my jacket on the (freezing)walk home to the hotel afterwards as an appology for abandoning her. So all is still well
I'll post my review later.
Mate, I'll have to get to know you a bit better before you truly discover the delights of my - ahem - "stop/start technique".

Well, what a great day out! And the gig was ok too. Had a brilliant day from start to finish really, good turn out for the Darlo Order in JB's, which was nice! Several beers/gins later, off to get some food, into the gig, just as 808 were starting Pacific - good timing! Enjoyed them, Johnny Marr et al, Doves and even Joy Division were on form - impressive!
Excellent meeting up with everyone again, great to chat to Lucy & JT as usual, always very pleasant company! Not too sure I will be joining the Diggy shorts & Hawaiian shirts crew in January next time though, just a bit cold! But nice to have a laugh with Mike, The Good Doctor etc! Also good to see Rocket again, good to meet Col (Biginoil) 'face to face', quick chat with Gary Mac at the bar, bumped into Barney Army on the way out of the gig, having lost the rest of the Darlo Order for a while! No doubt spoke to several other people but just too much excitement to take!
Missed Shug etc, couldn't be bothered with the front for a change, maybe next time!
Even the hotel was ok, and got a good veggie breakfast!
