I hope he lets me come to this one. The best gig I've been to by New Order in my opinion is the one they did last summer in Barca, dunno why, the whole weekend was just great and the gig was electric.

Sounds good, so as far as I understand it:

New Order will play both dates (Madrid and Barcelona) - sort of like Reading/Leeds and V Chelmsford/Stafford?
We need to know which date they're going to play Madrid and which date Barcelona (so that appropriate flight tickets can be booked - i.e. fly to first venue and return from second venue) :)
And probably two tickets are required at 75 (or 85) Euros each?

So, probably flying down on Thursday evening, and flying back Sunday afternoon/evening - a day and a half holiday!

It's Barca first, I think. Obviously I'll definitely go and will probably even book up tomorrow but if Athens doesn't go ahead you have to wonder how much goodwill there's gonna be left amongst this lot, and what knock-on effect it has on the rest of their dates for this year?!

If Mrs Manic is well up for it then we may do both. Its our wedding aniversay on the 12th and her birthday on the 14th so ill I see what I can do.

Hac says you can drive it in 7hrs. But I fear that's flat-out, bombing it all the way. I'm flying it. Er, once we know which way round these are! Gordie and JG did summat similar for Ladytron at Xmas. Barca and Madrid 2 nights running, flying between the two.
Had a ganders this morning. Singles rocket for the Friday, better for the Thursday night out. All about 40-50notes from London airports.

Yeah, I think I have to pay for the Spanish bit (being only a spouse and not an employee), and a tenner or so for the overnight bed, but Milky would go free the whole way except eurostar which we get a discount on..

I know that means I need a return Madrid - Barca rather than just one way but I figure that will still be cheaper than waiting for confirmation and seeing the Easyjet fares rocket.

Also, the Madrid flights are cheaper and the timings suit me a little better.

On Expedia you can get 3 nights in a 4* hotel in Madrid for around £200, flying from Manchester. Not bad if you wanna go to just Madrid and not Barcelona too. Can't imagine internal flights in Spain being that much though either.

Flying Luton->Madrid Thursday evening.

Barca->Luton Sunday evening.

Going with Iberia from Madrid to Barca. skyscanner.net quotes silly prices but cheapest I've got is 45 notes one way. And, be warned, you have to state what ID you're gonna use when booking and also have to know the Number of your ID (ie. passport number if you're using that).

EDIT. Booked the internal flights with Madrid Air now. 42 notes each instead. Woo!

I don't think many foreign sites accept international delivery. When I've been to gigs in the US, or Oz, or even Spain last year for Primavera you have to collect your ticket on site. From memory, I think only the Brittany festival from last year sent tickets out abroad?

If I end up doing this - still subject to cost as we've got a gig on the Friday night it will be the Barca one only, then I will be flying out Saturday morning and back Sunday. Can't honestly see it happening for me though. May save my meagre penny pile.

Iberia's £68 + £38 taxes from Gatwick to Barca on the Saturday, returning on the Sunday.

That's probably the going rate. People go to/from Madrid/Barca all year round don't they so unless you go silly days then it's gonna cost. Think my 3 flights added up to maybe 150 notes.

Not sure anyone tried vueling but airmadrid definitely worked out cheaper than spanair (which was ridiculously expensive) and aireuropa. Iberia were the next best reasonably priced and did have one ridiculoulsy cheap flight, but that left Madrid at 2000 hrs, or something!

wino, it's not as expensive as some people on here would have you believe. i've found tickets for roughly 70 quid return. you just have to know where to look and you DON'T need to collect the tickets on site. it's also very cheap to stay in barcelona (decent accomodations) if you know the right places, as well. e-mail me and i can help you out.

that is, if you're still interested what with the kids in tow (if that's what you mean by under-18s).

I'm sitting it out. Hate flying visits. If there's a bigger team doing Athens for a longer stint then I'm in. Only gonna do gigs in places I aint been and really want to see and having been to Barca four times in the last 18 months I could live without it. Madrid has never appealed (a city without a river?!!!).

If they've plans to do Taipei, Shanghai, Rio, Perth (Australia!) or anywhere on the Camchatka Peninsula in Russia then I'm a dead cert.

good decision. madrid is one of worst capital cities in europe. first night i was there i was woken up by an ETA bomb going off down the road. nice intro. not to mention i had second degree burns over my entire body (except for the bikini area) from two days of topless sunbathing in biarritz just before (i was stupid enough not to wear sunscreen). not the best way to spend your holiday. it's boring, boring, boring compared to barca (except for the prado, which is quite extraordinary).

Just checked the Iberia site for my Barca flights and I can't find that price anywhere for that route or those days? Iberia's lowest price for London>Barca seems to be £95 return at the moment. EasyJet's looking the way to go at the moment for about £125 in all.

EDIT: With the cheapest Iberia you can only fly into Barca for about 6 in the evening on the Saturday which is presumably a bit late for the gig. On the other hand, to get a Saturday morning Iberia flight you're looking at about 160/170 return unless you're prepared to leave home at 5am then it's a tenner less.

That's probably flying at a strange time though, no? You can fly out on Thursday morning for 20 notes one way, or something, but then it's gone up to about 40 quid in the evening, when most people are probably flying over. I don't want to waste more holidays than absolutely necessary so will work the Thursday, then go that night. Sunday's a pain getting back though - Monday's a much cheaper day to return, no?

Right, I'm booking my Barcelona Summercase ticket just now before my I do my flights. I really hope the band don't end up doing what has been already mentioned in this thread i.e. reverse venue order so they end up in Madrid on the 15th.

Yeah I'll be looking for work. Did 3 years in Edinburgh so time to try somewhere new and London seems as good a place as any. Will be poaching a free(ish) room off my brother initially and doing a bit of intensive jobhunting throughout May.

The Summercase in Barcelona has changed the location. It was in the Olimpic Stadium Area, but today has been confirmed to move to the Forum Area... where last year NO was playing at the Primavera gig... more comfortable!!! Beaches Area... Where will you stay before the gig??? Having beers??? :beer: :beer2:

Previous message (via Google translation tools) roughly translates to the non-purchasing of single day tickets, only two day tickets, and that ticket prices go up after 15th May to 95 Euros... I believe that the poster was offering to swap tickets for the other day for those who didn't want to see New Order in Madrid (i.e. day two in Madrid, when they would be in Barcelona), but then remembered that wristbands will be given, so this isn't possible! :)

Will keep this one brief. I've had some cracking weekenders away with this lot, but this was, quite simply, THE best weekend I've ever had away following New Order. Don't expect much from the band themselves these days but even they surpassed themselves. How the fcuk even they can screw up Ceremony is beyond me but it's one of the reasons I keep coming back. Again and again and again. And every single one of you who was there made it such a fantastic weekend for me. Special mentions to Dufford (he really does exist and is the soundest bloke you're ever likely to meet) and to Paul, Biggie's host for the weekend, for being such a star. Thank you all. I'm now just gutted they ain't giving us more weekenders like this one this summer. The Order are dead, long live the Order!

Oh, and Alex is a cunt. As everyone in my phonebook discovered yesterday arvo. :nod:

Feeling wiped out after an easyJet 4 hour+ delay! However it was worth it! As El Jarvo has said one of the best ever NO jaunts. Besides the two spectacular performances, being with all you lot was absolutely brilliant. Barca was better first time that I have been surrounded by Vikings on the front 'row' as well as behind (knee barrier bruises to prove it!) which made such a difference. Shug, Bonz, Dave Legge, Ally were all up there with me (I 'protected' Shug by letting him cling onto me!)

how the heck Bernard could wear a zipped up Adidas hoody and continue to execute his best dance moves in the Madrid heat is beyond me!
apologies to any Starsailor fans who may read this. My rampage to the front for the last song and rapturous applause on both occasions was fake – early positioning is everything.

Top weekend, hats off to those that did both, not sure I had the energy for that, not in that heat. Liverpool probably a better gig, but Barca an all round better laugh. Good to put a few more faeces to names.

Only complaint was that friggin cameraman at the front taking shots for the big screen, kept pointing it in my face. fuck off!!!!

Superb weekend, as Al, Shug, Ness and Barney Army have mentioned - fcuking knackered now! :)

Anyway, good to meet up with Al, JG, Shugs, Dave Legge, Ness, Gregg, Big Clive, Wolfram, Mr & Mrs Milky, Mr & Mrs Manic, Ally, Digi Mike, Ren, Wolfram, German Order (confusion, Matize, etc - top lads!), Dufford, Gordie & Gary (Pompey Order), Andy (Hull Order), Barney Army & Bonz, BigInOil (Colin & mate), other Colin, Hi-Bell (!) and numerous others that I've forgotten (I'm crap at remembering names)!

To Madrid:

Met up at Luton airport with Al, JG, Shugs, and Dave Legge - just about managed to catch the plane, even though that was 45 minutes late taking off (good thing, too, otherwise we might have missed it)!

Madrid:

Got to the hotel, met up with Gordie and Gary (Pompey Order), and off to a bar for some drinks. Already there were Big Clive, Greg & Ness, confusion, Hi-Bell, Mr & Mrs Milky, and numerous others! Eventually got back to the hotel at 3am...

To another bar the next day - lots of organic beer, great Spanish food (Spanish Omellette, Potato Bravas - nice spicy spuds, plus seafood that I didn't have - being a veggie - and Shugs spat out!). Joined by the above NOOL'ers plus Wolfram, and others.

Off to venue - a major taxi ride (cost me & Dave 40 Euros!). I got "interviewed" for Spanish television (as did Gordie) - it probably won't be shown, though!

Beer = very expensive (had to buy tokens, and ended up being 6 Euros a pint... Also, watered-down San Miguel)... :-p BTW, both Starsailor and Keane are crap!

Great gig: had WFTSC and Turn in the setlist (no "Krafty"), plus a longer Perfect Kiss than previous gigs. Love Barney's comment about the World Cup ("fcuk the Portuguese!"). Bit of a fcuk up on the opening of "Ceremony", but turned out alright in the end.

Who beat up Bobby Gillespie? :crazy:

Barcelona:

Early start in the morning (had to catch a 10:30am flight in the morning, after only 4 hours kip) - Madrid airport a nightmare, queuing up for about an hour for check-in, another half an hour for security check, and a 45 minute late plane - arrived in Barca around 1pm...

Off to bar in a square near the Ramblas (called "Alex"!) - lots more beers, pizzas, Spanish food, and avoiding the pickpockets.

Off to gig: WFTSC and Turn were replaced with "Love Vigilantes" and "Krafty" instead. Perfect Kiss was shorter than Madrid, but seemed to have more guitar/bass parts? Better crowd in Barca - lots of manic crowd movement by all NOOL'ers! :laugh:

I decided to get back to the hotel soon afterwards - too knackered, whilst others stayed and watched Primal Scream (Bobby Gillespie with black eyes!) and/or Chemical Brothers DJ set.

Next Day:

Woke up late on the Sunday, and back down to the Ramblas for a couple of beers and food with the reamining NOOL'ers in Barca. Managed to catch a taxi to the airport (last-minute check-in) only to find that the various EasyJet flights were delayed, so some more beers at the airport, and lots more on the plane (when it finally arrived - cheers to John on EasyJet for the plentiful beer supply)!

Now knackered, and have to go up to Telford for 3 days for work... Ouch... :dead:

A brief one for me as well as I'm still a bit fooked (the lightweight I am) but once again cheers to all the usual faces and a few new ones for making it a very memorable couple of days. Barca is a fcuking lovely city and I would have loved to seen more of it.

New Order were on top form, a bit better than Liverpool I thought although there wasn't much in it. I had no idea they were going to play Love Vig (first time this year?!) but that was defo a highlight. The crowd erupted at that one and rightly so.

How big were those beers we were knocking back on Saturday, Shug?! I told you "Dos grande" wasn't 2 small! :D No regrets though :nod:

just returned from barca ...

the three days with the vikings were very amazing. thx to all, especially to greg for the meeting point communications. new order played their best gigs in the last year. the festival area in barcelona with the sea was fantastique, in Madrid it wasn't. you couldn't sit in Madrid on the floor. the organisation in madrid especially with the after concert shuttle bus-service was terrible. in barca it was, how you could expected this. the prices for beer was 50% higher than during the football world cup. you only needed one two days-ticket for both shows.
