GlasVegas sent me a text earlier and I've just checked meself and the prices for this are indeed getting a wee bit silly now, alas.
Don't suppose many will bother now?
It's up to about £250 for flights now I think - accommodation will be floors and 24/7 partying I think - cheaper!
I will be doing this one now for defo, flying out Friday morning and back on the Sunday or Monday, depending on best price.
Just sent you a text, defo going too. Off to Sverige first thing in morning, will have a quick squizz at flights now.
Wherabouts in Sweden you off to? Mate of mine lives in Ystad, right at the bottom. Says it's always cold and wet, just like Manchester but colder!
If you fancy a few hours in Budapest on the way back Al, there's Hungarian airways doing a cracking price!

Fcuk me, prices have gone silly, ain't they? The Air Italia ones look good as well though.
I'm in a place called Kungsbakka tomorrow, somewhere outside Gothenberg.
KLM doing an Amsterdam change for £230, flying out 08.40 on 2nd from Heathrow, only a few mins in Amsterdam, then gets to Athens 16.25 on 2nd, then back at 05.35 from Athens on the 4th, gets back to Heathrow 10.40 on the Sunday morning. Short, sharp and reasonable!
Czech airlines also doing decent ones at around £250 via Prague.

Air Italia going around 180 notes. Out Thursday eve, back Monday arvo. Go via Rome.
EDIT: 90% certain of going out on the 1640 AlItalia out of Heathrow on the Thursday, back some time Monday arvo.
Almost certainly gonna stop in the Blue Sky hotel in Gilfada as well.
Me, Johnny Giles and H.
Just waiting on another mate, Geordie, who's got his moby turned off at the mo'. Probably been watching the Boro. Will doubtless book this up over the weekend whilst I'm away.
Spent ages trying to work out a cheap option. There's very little out there. However......For once it appears cheaper to fly out of Scotland! You need to book two one way tickets with two separate airlines (flyglobespan.com on the way out and Air Scotland on the way back). They're both direct flights so no messing about with connections. The cost right now is £151 inc all taxes.
GLASGOW - ATHENS Thursday 01 June at 07.00 with Globespan ATHENS - GLASGOW Monday 05 June at 14.00 with Air Scotland
Might be worth considering for anyone near Stansted or Luton as you'll probably pick up a return to Glasgow with easyjet or Ryanair for pennies.
Another good hotel in Gylfada this time WITH A POOL. £46 a night for a double.

Typical. flyglobespan don't start flying out of London till three weeks later!

As the best options out of London involve a connection anyway I reckon peeps should give serious consideration to the LUTON-GLASGOW-ATHENS option.
Booked on expedia with AlItalia via Rome, 1640hrs on the Thursday from Heathrow, back on the Monday landing around 9pm: me, JG and H.
200 notes. Had a 20-quid cheaper flight but it gets back at 11pm so fcut to get back into London.
Will worry about accomodation next week.

Arse to KLM, I've got the holiday, why not use it in the sun!
Couldn't get onto Alitalia website to book ticket, so opted for Olympic Airlines on the way there:
Thursday 1st June:
London --> Athens : Olympic Airlines
Sunday 4th June:
Athens --> Birmingham (via Amsterdam) : KLM
Having to return on the 4th as I'm due in Hinckley on that night for a 2-day conference... Swines... Of all the days in the year to book a conference, and it's when I would have loved to spend an extra day in Athens... ![]()

Ouch, this is more than the 550$ I spent on plane tickets for Montreal->Chicago->New York->Montreal last year! And I thought that was expensive!

Bit late now, but I actually went via Expedia. AlItalia had flights quoted a good 50 quid more for the same route!

What are your flight numbers Al? I may have booked on the same flights! Sorted hotel yet?
GlasVegas wrote: Another good hotel in Gylfada this time WITH A POOL. £46 a night for a double.
Now this looks nice! Sorted the flights, on same as Jarvo/JG, so now need the hottle. Any local recommendations guys?

Weren't we looking at Blue Day, or whatever?
Blue Sky, yes. That one will be fine. This other one looks a bit better, and has its own pool, but is 50% more expensive. Makes no odds to me though, doubt we'll be spending much time there!
Still doing the research, there's bound to be several nice and well-priced hotels between Glyfada and the venue. Good news is that there's an excellent beach at Glyfada, and there's a tram straight into the centre of Athens for €0.60. Gig venue is a couple of miles from Glyfada centre.

Anybody looking to book this flight might wanna check out the front page of today's Daily Record!
Air Scotland have the worst punctuality record for ANY airline in the UK (not surprising as they only operate with one plane) and it would appear that their closure may be imminent. Pain in the arse cos that's a great fare.
GlasVegas wrote: Another good hotel in Gylfada this time WITH A POOL. £46 a night for a double.
Should've tried this first time around. Everywhere else seems to be fully booked. Got twins in here for me & JG then H and Geordie.
EDIT: Nah, scratch that. This one's booked as well. Not very 21st Century on the booking front, are they? Even gave CC details for this one, cos they've got vacancies, only for them to come back and say they don't actually have any rooms, sorry. Ridiculous.
Looks like Glyfada is fully booked, even via expedia.
Where's the next best place to book round those parts then?!
Vouliagmeni, Voula, Kalamaki or Alimos, Elliniko, Argyroupoli are all near the venue (and Glyfada). I've mailed Elias for some advice on these, maybe the other locals could chip in as well and help us out. If you do find somewhere (and I'll keep looking as well) let me know and I will cancel the Blue Sky - makes sense for us all to be in the same area really as it's a confusing place at the best of times!
Actually, this entire area is a bit of a parochial backwater, isn't it? Especially the afore-mentioned towns you've listed. Might be better to book in Athens itself?
The fair is actually from the Monday to Friday 5/9 June, so the hotelier was telling a few porkies!
Athens hotels are more expensive than the suburbs, but not appreciably so.
Shall I cancel my reservation at the Blue Sky and forfeit the €40 already paid, and look further north?

That's what I'm going to do if Blue Sky come back and say the hotel is available...
oldmonkey wrote: Shall I cancel my reservation at the Blue Sky and forfeit the €40 already paid, and look further north?
You're not forfeiting it, are you?! They'd refund. Especially considering that they can't appear to fit anyone else in their hotel!
Cancelled it and asked them for a refund. There wasn't a lot of substance in the deleted threads, hopefully Elias will come back soon with something for us - gonna spend some time this afternoon doing some more investigation of the whole area.
Best place for tickets, btw, is www.ts1.gr, or more specifically, here.
Tickets are 47 Euros plus 3 Euros booking fee, and 43 Euros to ship to the UK via DHL (if you decide not to pick them up)! ![]()
492 places left from www.ts1.gr - best site for international orders, as this one allows you to enter a UK address/phone number (in English)! :p
Al,Tim..
Is this an outdoor festival ??
Athens should be warming up quite nicely..in every sense.
Spent a weekend there a few years ago...before boating on to Aegena.
Athens is a great place...if you can avoid getting ran over !!!
I love the place, one of my favourite cities, but the hotel booking system is a bit strange to say the least! You make the reservation enquiry, they come back and tell you they have rooms, then they come back later and tell you they haven't, after taking card details!
So can you tell me for how many persons / rooms are we talking about? Maybe I can check it out through the travel agency Detox is cooperating..
and maybe the range of the prices you ve allready got.. It can be used for pushing for lower prices maybe..
http://athens.fse-esf.org/info/el#place
Check out this page! it is a list of hotels choosed for the 4th European Social Forum
It is held in the same location with the festival, so they ll do with your transportation, plus they ll probably be cheap ones...
Thanks, we are looking at three or four rooms with twin beds in (for 8 people total) between 2nd and 5th June (we fly in at 0055 on the 2nd and leave at 1640 on the 5th), and obviously we would prefer the individual cost to be less than €100 a night if possible, hopefully a lot less!

FIRST and 5th June!
Would want a room when we get there!

Ah yes - good point!
and after a discussion with the boss today...no way in hell I can make this one...I'll be in the New Orleans area helping support one of our stores...
this summer is going to SUCK!
Spotnick wrote: Not much activity here, 4 days until the gig...
Well, flight(s) and hotel are booked, and awaiting festival ticket to arrive before I leave - apparently the festival only sent the ticket agency the tickets today, which leaves them 2 1/2 days for them to courier it to my house before I jump on a place to Greece... Added to that, I'm only going to be in on a Thursday morning for DHL to send me the tickets... ![]()
Should be good - Athens has a temperature of around 30 degrees - i.e. some nice sunshine, ouzo, some great music (wonder what the setlist will be?), and some great company - can't wait! ![]()
Got my train tickets to Athens Already got my Festival Ticket Checked www.ejekt.gr for the schedule of the appearences Cant wait to see No. !
I really hope for 1963 on the setlist (which hasnt been played since 1989 according to the stats on this site)
Maybe we should all shout and request this one!

Rehearse? Is Hooky actually back from Asia yet?
Don't push your luck too far. Last year they reheased Warsaw and Everything's Gone Green for ages before including them in the set, you might be in for one surprise.
Don't forget that New Order don't tour in function of the fans touring with them. They will play for the greeks expecting to hear their greatest hits.

You're never gonna convince me that EGG had been rehearsed! Have you heard the two versions they did last year? If that was as the result of rehearsals for ages then I am both the Pope and Lionel Blair rolled into one!
We know that Dead Souls was planned for the Mcr vs Cancer gig but missed the cut, so that may be a possibility.
One thing that does always seem to happen though is that they play a song from a previous release that hadn't previously been played live:
98 they played Guilty Partner, having not played it in 89 with the rest of Technique 02 they played Brutal, having not played it in 01 05 they played Run Wild, having not played it in 01 or 02 and then played Turn having not done it in the earlier 05 gigs
So maybe we will get Who's Joe, Working Overtime or something similar from WFTSC?

They're on at 11pm on the outdoor stage, btw, and it looks like (from the map) that food and drinks are sold via the means of tokens (i.e. you have to queue up for tokens and then queue up for food/drink)... ![]()

Thank fcuk we haven't introduced that in this country yet. Tokens. Absolute terrible way of forcing people to pay for stuff. Queue for an age in one line, then get them to queue again to actually spend the stuff. Farcical. You have to work out in advance what you're roughly gonna spend, what food you fancy, etc. Hate it as a system.
Nick, hope your ticket turned up today. ![]()
