It's official! Andy Rourke in tonight's Manchester Evening News. It's on MARCH 30th at M.E.N. Arena again. Tickets go on sale FRIDAY 12th JANUARY. Not sure if it's the same line-up as last year (fingers crossed),but Andy says they will match the line-up they had last time. Gonna check the website for more details.

Well, David Potts said he would be there and we would have a Monaco reunion... that's a start.

Thing is, is that still today's news... I didn't ask Pottsy since he told me that in July.

Well I never! There we were thinking we'd never see the devils again!

this is a bit beside the point, but why do large "festival" shows in England sell tickets before the lineup is even announced? for a charity show that had a great lineup last year, i can see buying tickets for that. but what of the summer festivals where they sell out tickets before you even know who you're seeing? sounds like a bum's lottery to me. i'd hate to shill out 60 squid to end up seeing the killers headline or something.

oh, and to steer things back where they belong, do you think we may finally see that belated FREEBASS premiere?

Even though I'll go, this will be shite.

If they have the same line up as last year, it will be a complete joke. They would need a big headliner, and the two names that spring to mind are Morrissey (definite no no) or Richard Ashcroft (who barely had the Arena half full in November). I suppose Oasis might do it, but there attitude towards stuff like this rules them out.

Probably wll have Kloot, Liam Frost, Elbow et al play down the bill. And maybe Johnny Marr will do some more Smiths songs with Rourke again! :skeptic:

Maybe someone like James might re form for a one off. Cant see it myself, but you never know.

to be fair, i went to leeds last year just because pearl jam were playing - and apart from them, i really wasn't bothered about anyone else on the line up, it was all shite to my eye. but it was okay, the camping and the general atmosphere was so good that it didn't matter.

i already bought my ticket for leeds 07  to be fair, quite a few bands i love are bringing out new albums and such, so there is a fair chance that i will be there for more than one band this year (i.e metallica, alter bridge, dinosaur jr, bloc party..) but if i'm there for one band again i'm sure it will be great, cos leeds 06 was the best weekend ever. :thumb:

No update on the Official Site. And still no word on the DVD from last time.

I doubt NO will make it, March 30th is on a Friday and they don't play fcuking weekends!

I'm only going if Fradley promises to look after me at the front again

The DVD releases is supposed to co incide with this gig.

Very true - a finished version does exist, so maybe it'll be released in time for the next one?

Personally, I'm going to wait until the line-up is confirmed before deciding to buy a ticket - after all, they didn't sell out last year, did they? If Monaco are confirmed, I could be persuaded to make the trip! :)

As for other festivals not mentioning line-ups, it's more the atmosphere I tend to go to (e.g. Big Chill/Glasto/etc) rather than the actual bands performing. Anyway, as a general rule of thumb, if the festival was good the year before, then it's probably going to be as good the following year (i.e. type of bands performing, atmopshere, etc).

I enjoyed the last one. I thought Marr did a great job and enjoyed the atmosphere (note the small 'a' - see what I've done there).

Sure it was a bit shambollic, but that's Manchester, innit?

I'll go (and I will this time, as it may be the only gig they do) if the Order are playing, but won't bother for any of the other bands.

Nope.

Although some of it was alright last year. Doves were good, and... erm... well, Guy Garvey having to re start Forget Myself as it was getting no reaction was quite funny.

Well, I did see them on a friday and a sunday the last time ;)

Might go to this one but will wait until the line up is confirmed. Even if NO don't play it may still be a good opportunity for meet up's and if 808 State are on I'd defo be interested as I've never seen Graeme Massey and co. live before. Cheers!:thumb:

Why do some people want the line up to be the same as last year? That would just be pointless!

Would definately go if New Order play and it was a guaranteed New Order set.

Last time pissed me off a little with the JD only set.

we'll see, i hope it will happen !!

I enjoyed the line-up last year.Even despite Bez being shite, his girlfriend had a cracking pair of lungs on her:ignore: Voice I mean! And Doves were ace too. This year as well as the Order, think I'll have Marr,Doves and Inspirals, with a contribution or two from a Gallagher(or two). Finale last year was amazing.WROTE FOR LUCK performed as a wall of sound,by a stage full of guitarists.

Having seen Morrissey this year (and to be fair thought his GMex performance was better than Apollo earlier in the year) Marr's How Soon is now blew Mozzer's band off the stage.

As for others we might expect - ACR? Inspirals? Freebass? Ian Brown would be a great coup

why is it ok for morrissey to play as many smiths song as he wants

yet when marr and rourke get together and play them, that warrants a ":skeptic: "

Because, quite simply, at least Morrisseys and the lads versions of the songs are not simply culled from the original then re produced. I think the Johnny Marr version last year was exceptionally overrated, especially compared to the Morrissey version of last year and of 04.

One thing that genuniely amazed me about last years gig was how high Marr was up the bill. Considering how unbelievably awful the Boomslang album was, it really was a disgrace.

Although saying that, I dont recall ever saying it was OK for Morrissey to play Smiths songs either. Looking at the expression of some band members onstage over the last nine months, it appears that I might not be alone in thinking this.

I suppose Inspirals are on tour, but wont draw anymore. Same with ACR.

Does anyone know if Freebass are actually any good?

Ian Brown would be a good shout. A much bigger draw than New Order these days as well.

I've enjoyed hearing Morrissey singing Smiths songs, although the current guitarist is nothing on Marr so it didn't sound as good.

The highlight of Man V Cancer last year was definatley Marr doing There is a Light. I thought he did a great job of it.

Yeah, I'd probably say out of the following:

  • Inspirals (on tour anyway for b-sides album)
  • Happy Mondays (new album recorded)
  • New Order doing Joy Division stuff (to promote Control)
  • Doves (possibly)
  • Freebass and/or Monaco
  • Some DJ's

Ah well, we'll wait and see... :)

Freebase and/ or Monaco. Really like the sound of this. The End w/ everyone on stage last time was genius. If this thread isn't a tripped up. Fun quote- bracket mess.

Brown and Bunnymen just confirmed on XFM. I think thats what i heard anyway...

It's getting better then, the Bunnymen are still good value for a nostalgia trip. At least they play all the songs from 1980/81 still!

I'm up for going if Brown plays, if only to see which member(s) of the audience he stops the show for and picks a fight with.

I'm definitely going, I've never seen Brown live and I love the Bunnymen. RESULT!

Last time i saw Brown in the MEN he was really good.

You'd have to say that it'll be a Stone Roses heavy set. Wouldnt surprise me to see Mani play a few songs with him. Or Noel Gallagher come out and Do "Keep What Ya Got" like they did in 04.

Last two times I've seen Ian Brown I've walked out. Walked in late at Brighton 18 months ago, then fcuked off early cos he was in an arsey mood (even arsier) than usual and even when he did She Bangs the bar still didn't clear so getting a drink was a mare. And then walked out six songs in at Buenos Aires simply cos there was no ale to be had there.

The boy can't sing at all. Got some good tunes, but he can't sing.

In fairness, he's not as bad as he used to be. Some Stone Roses bootlegs i've got are awful, but by his standards he was on reasonable form in 05. Sometimes, notably Glastonbury, he was actually in tune.

I was shocked as well.

He was SHIT in Buenos Aires, and that's less than two months ago. Perhaps he didn't need to try quite so hard cos very few people there had Engerlish as their first language, I dunno?

Fuck knows how many takes he needs to actually get each line right on record?

Yeah, but surely - as with another pop combo quite popular round here - it's all part of the charm, innit??!!

I'm sorry, but there's limits. Barney can't sing, gratis, but he's Pava-fcuking-rotti when lined up against Brown.

And Brown just ain't got the material. Few standout tunes, but he'll never compete with his Roses stuff.

Not necessarily a bad thing that is it, Tim? Goes against what punk is all about passing the X Factor audition. But I'll admit getting Brown on there to sing the theme from The Bodyguard would make excellent telly

Like I said, he's got a few standout tunes. Golden Gaze sits happily in my 25 most played tracks on me iPod. An absolute classic track. However, the vocal you hear on vinyl ain't nish like it sounds when he attempts it live.

Still, it's all in the charm, I guess.

Right, I'm in for Mancland. Just booked a train up on the Friday arvo cos the Mighty 'Ats are Oop Norf on the Saturday too so might as well make a weekender of it!

Okay, to try and avoid taking time off (which, unfortunately, is proving rather difficult this month - I had to beg for the 30th March...), and due to the fact I'm in Telford that week (and not due to return back home until the Thursday afternoon), I *might* be able to leave Telford on the Wednesday afternoon, and get to Manchester by about 6'ish (on the Wolverhampton train), and then get a very early train back from Manchester to London the next day...

I never got to see Monaco at the time, otherwise I wouldn't be contemplating this!

True, but if I'm making a special journey to get to Manc for it, an extra 15-odd quid won't make much odds - the train fares/hotels will be the main expenditure! :smoking:

Personally, I'm only going there because it's a long time since I've gone to an 808 DJ-set - they normally put on a good show, and play some decent tunes, and since I'm in the area on that day...

This is the Night & Day after-party, btw:

TAILGUNNER plus guests also MANCHESTER Vs CANCER Aftershow Party with Special guests & DJ Wes (Up The Racket)

Door: £6 Advance: £N/A*

Times: 8PM - 2AM

Tailgunner, the next generation in rock and roll. Mark Coyle, often acknowledged as the sixth member of Oasis is back with his band Tailgunner. Introducing newest members Dave Sinnott and Gianluca Rizzuto, The bands energy and no bullshit attitude is clearly seen in there music. The band have supported Noel Gallagher and Gem at the Lowry Threatre, in the Manchester leg of their acoustic tour. We've got some gigs coming up soon so check them out.

A very good source, erm The Bunnymen lol..... have informed me that Hooky will be playing a song with the Bunnymen at the gig, almost certain to be Ceremony as Mac has played it before.

Oh if you care Bunnymen are due on stage at 7.45pm

Top stuff. Only downer means we've got to be in there earlier than I anticipated!

Cheers for clearing that Jack, was convinced I couldn't see him at the end, even though Ian brown announced him to the stage !

yeah

well he left but didn't really let the right people know

so about 5 mins before the finale everyone was apparently rushing around trying to find him

would've been good to see all 3 of freebass up there at the end but that will happen in good time :hat:

Walked in just as Ceremony started, which was amazing as we thought we would miss it.

The Charlatan's set was really good, 'specially when Weller joined them.

Couldn't see the point of Noel G's acoustic set. It was just like someone strumming a guitar in your front room and everyone singing along half pissed. But then I'm not really a fan.

Not a patch on last years for me, overall. But a good night out.
