Hello all. New poster here. Not really a New Order fan but this is the most active thread about the gig so thought i'd finally post on it.
What a top night. Quick review.
The Sticks - Half of them are from Rochdale so we thought we'd get there early to check them out. Not bad! they didnt let the size of the arena faze them and felt sorry for them when there set was cut short! Check them out http://www.myspace.com/thesticksmanchester
The Farm - Not really my thing but I think there early time caught a lot of people out as I had a few people ask me if they'd been on later in the night. "All Together Now" was the first highlight of the night.
Inspiral Carpets - Not overly familliar with there stuff but thought the frontman was a bit crazy before calming down a bit and finishing off a rather polished set with "This is how it feels", another early sing-a-long.
The View - They were better than I thought they'd be. I don't mind the view. They did a few new songs and were the first band to get the crowd really dancing to the tune of "Wasted Little DJs" "Superstar Tradesman" and of course "Same Jeans".
Athlete - Wern't half bad at all. "Wires" sounded really good. Not familiar enough with there other stuff to get into there set but they were still pretty good. Wasn't sure what crowd reaction they'd get but they were well recieved.
Fun Lovin Criminals - Not my thing, good at what they do but thought it was an odd choice for a night like this. Scooby Snacks went down well.
Happy Mondays - Paddy McGuinnes introduced them and the crowd went mental. First time the whole arena was on there feet. Everyone knows there not what they used to be but they still deliverd a top set, Bez's dancing is still quality and copied by almost everyone in the crowd.
The Fratellis - I was slightly diaspointed by them to be honest. I think the sound got lost in the Arena which can happen to some bands. Vocals wern't very clear at all but they got the crowd going with Chelsea Dagger.
The Enemy - Superb. There only going to get bigger. Would not suprise me at all to see them sell out the Arena in the not too distant future. Cocky as anything but they have the tunes to back it up.
Finale - Collaboration between Andy Rourke, Peter Hook, Steve White and Badly Drawn Boy. Played a few songs I didnt know, Love Will Tear Us Apart and a Smiths song. Will have to get hold of some BDB stuff now because thought he was excellent.
A top, top night and I'm looking forward to next years gig already. Only let down was the poor organization at the Arena - the standing floor was completely rammed full and to have just one bar and toilet area was ridiculous, couldnt let it spoil the night though.
A lot of the gig is playing on XFM Manchester website. If you go to www.xfmmanchester.co.uk and Listen Live, go the the Listen Again and its on Clint Boon's Boon Army. Tried recording it but every program I use is useless...
The Enemy, have gone up in my books after seeing them live.
But fuck me, why the hell weren't the Mondays headlining ?
As the previous post said they lifted the whole place when they came on.....
Was that girl Doves fan there again trying to stop everyone moshing/generally having a good time like at the 2006 do? She was moaning about people moshing ,like , erm, in the moshpit..

Don't know mate. I might have stood on her neck.

No. He went home and found his mobile phone and called her, so all sorted. A lucky escape ![]()
Speaking of scousers, funniest moment for me was in the Arena, when i got collared by two Scouse lasses, (one of which is crazyh, i think), saying they know me, and then called me Burt. Turns out they almost carried me back to hotel in Bournemouth back in 2006, cos i was so off me tits. Top Scousers ![]()
I have billions of pictures but I'm crap at posting them. Can somebody ring me tonight and talk me through it? ![]()
The gig was a bit dissapointing for me,enjoyed the carpets and the mondays.
Not into the enemy or the bum lovin criminals, fratellis or the view, lady
enjoyed the fratellis whilst i was at the bar!
Missed the farm:\ohwell:
very dissapointed at the end, cant stand that badly drawn boy geezer.
I think everyone thought someone else would be coming on after him.
Had 3 spare seated tickets and the touts were wanting to buy em for a fookin pound, robbin bastards! ![]()
TBH i spent more time at the bar than i did in my seat, which is nice!
Bit of as bloody trek to the KRO bar from the venue, was nice to meet a few more faces tho, cant remember them all but i think i met,Monty,Dave Legge,Burt, liam, and of course Nick king in the smokers corner ![]()
To anyone else i talked to and forgot to mention i do apologise but i was very very drunk at the time!
To Jem,where the bloody hell were ya?

Also, we only remember you as 'Burt' !!!!
I have very little recollection of the gig, semi remember Fratellis doing Chelsea Dagger and the Criminals doing Scooby Snacks, the Mondays were ace cos I remember dancing like an eedjit, but I cannae remember anything other than Kinky Afro. Were the FLC on before or after the Mondays????
Got seperated from the Corby Order and spent most of the night with the two Sunderland lads. Ended up walking for what seemed like hours before magically finding Eddie and his missus. We then spent an hour with a bottleofrush before Darren turned up so we could get tucked into the crate of beer in the car.
I ended up drinking saidrush thinking it was beer much to the amusement of everyone else, thank god we had loadsa beer to wash it down. Can't remember anything after that, though I do know that I woke up without me phone.
I hope Baldrick has it, but I have had no joy getting in touch with him. I am a disgrace.
I went and saw the Fratellis do two numbers. I was just getting into the swing of things when my mate said she couldn't breathe so we had to leave! That was the most expensive 2 songs I've ever seen performed!
At least it wasn't as expensive as the boys night ![]()
I simply don't see how we could have done anything else but stay in that pub.
Following the normal rules of waiting in the pub until New Order come on, we can now stay in there forever ![]()

Does anyone know what time we were out to? My moby says I phoned Dave Clark at 2.30 so guess we were back in the hotel bar by then?
At least you still have yer phone, I am LOST without mine, I want it to see what I got up to on Saturday!!!!
Baldrick sill hasnae been in touch to let me know if I have left it in his car, he was poncing it at a golf tournament and free bar yesterday.
Baldrick , if yer on here before you go to work (or IF you go to work) - turn yer fucking phone on - I have left my work number for ya!

Well we went to the Star and Garter but couldn't get in, and then ended up in the Retro Bar until 3.30. Didn't manage to make breakfast, strangely!
You dirty stop outs, I was tucked up in bed by 12.30. I had an alarming incident in the hotel, I don't think the staff were very impressed with me ![]()

Like Tim, ended up in the Retro Bar until 3:30am (with Jert, Greg and co)...
Managed to fall out of bed, severely hungover, at just before 10am...
Still knackered now... :p
