Sure this has been asked and answered before but..........
Is there any official or bootleg footage of New Order, A Certain Ratio, or the Mondays from this gig?
Very fuzzy memories, the clearest being the Mondays being on stage before the doors had opened................
Mondays weren't on before doors opened but they only did 6 songs, 5 of which were off the new album Bummed, from what I remember? Looking back, sounds like a good set, but in reality, at that time, it was shit (opened with Country Song, hilite was Tart Tart?) cos it was just new stuff.
There's a bootleg video for New Order, Jake. Shot from miles back. Just looks like one big fcuk off mental rave with strobes going everywhere!!!
EDIT: ACR were fucking shit though. All new stuff off that bollocks album they did for EMI, was it? Had the blonde bird (Flo?) singing most of the stuff. Awful. Level 42 eat your heart out.
My memories of this gig were that ACR were shit, the Mondays were riotous with Shaun Ryder singing the new songs from a piece of paper, Rowetta was wearing a blue Teddy with thigh high black kinky boots, Tony Wilson was wearing a big grey overcoat and had a smug smile on his face as if to say 'Aren't I brilliant', and NO were just brilliant. Barney when introducing the new songs from Technique kept saying 'heres another new song you wont like - give it 5 years and you will'

Memory is shot here. December, '88 ish if i recall?.. Some fucker will correct me, no doubt. Rowetta didnt hit the scene til over a year later, as far as i can remember. Think she started doing stuff with them just after Oakenfold remix of Hallelujah hit the shops, and on record on 'Step On' in mid 1990. I dunno. Tis all a bit blurry, still.
Was this the gig where NO fucked up the intro to 'Fine Time' and Barney restarted it by saying 'Go for it Gillian' etc..

Jake- Video was shit (a la Bournemouth town hall) Think it was either shot from the back or seats at the back/side, but terribly blurred.
Mondays were shambolic but good, not as good as the Ritz showcase 2 months earlier disdappointingly (Rowetta was not even in the plan at this stage). As Jarvo- mentioned they started with 'Some C*nt from Preston' (Country Song)
Again, As Al etc... said ACR were going through one of their 'crap' phases after signing to a major (A&M) (just as sad & crap as their T&C Club show a bit earlier).
Why they do this i'll never know but it irritates the f**k out of me.
I thought the day was terrific - met some Macclesfield lads who we (Darlo) had 'encountered' 2 months previous in a F.A cup game down their way
As I had broke my foot (pre met-arse-al fad) I sat in the seats on the left right by stage, never seen a crowd going wild from stage to back before, too naive to know disco pills had arrived, could see the Mondays were dancin around to NO behid the stage, saw mr Echo and the Bunnyman in the entrance before thought he may jpoin them again not they needed his help great night if my memory serves me well.

Apologies my memory is shot! Ive mixed the New Order concert from Dec 17th 1988 at Gmex, with the Happy Mondays concert 24th April 1990 at Gmex. I now remember that after the Mondays concert I walked into a lampost and banged my head and had to take the Monday off work. Something that could not have happened after the New Order concert since I was still a student.
Top night! I drove over on the M62 from Bradford (living in Leeds then) in my old jalopy with only one windscreen wiper working...as the snow came down!
The Order were top: loads of strobes, lasers and a non-functioning Emulator that didn't want to reproduce its parts on Fine Time but eventually did. Result: the whole place went nuts. One of the greatest Order gigs I've ever been to.
Mondays were quality,short,but quality.I'm a massive ACR fan,but it's correct,they were indeed quite poor,the material letting them down really.N.O. tho',were absolute fookin' quality,even now,probably the best I've seen them,from the moment Hooky walked on,bass round his knees & said 'alright punters!!' Quality 
Fantastic night even though we wasted too much time trying to find a bar in the general vicinity of G-Mex. Missed Happy Mondays and most of ACR. couldn't get anywhere near the from but one of my alltime favourite NO gigs. these were the days, even travelling by boat and train to get there and back.
it was professionally filmed at the behest of Tony W but little has surfaced - officially. Unofficially however there are tapes of New Order and The Smiths' performances kicking around. The boot stuff is fucking awful though i did see an amateur edit of 3 angles back in 1989. Avoid.

I also was thinking it was defo at weekend cos i went back to DARWEN after the gig where i used to live before moving over to Chorley in 1982!Superb gig and crap video.I gave my dodgy copy away.Highlight for me was VANISHING POINT.Hell what fun days they were.
first ever N o gig and probably the best atmosphere of all the gigs i have ever seen since, the place liereally exploded when true faith and ceremony were played

I just remember my feet not touching the floor for the first 4 songs and moving 100m when Ceremony kicked in. Cracking gig compared to Wembley the year before.
Wish I could remember more of this gig, it was my first NO gig too.
In fact all I remember clearly of NO is Fine Time, basically because my mate who was a Red Rock era U2 fan (with a Bono mullet) decided it was a perfect time to start "making boxes" and generally raving like yer dad would. Fuckin pissed myself.
Remember Shaun Ryder had the short hair look that was far better than the RIDICULOUS curtains he would have a year later, and was hunched at the front of the stage singing lyrics off bits of paper. I'd bought Wrote For Luck on CD single the week before and the gig made me realise they were destined for the big time........
Still got the original review of the gig from NME somewhere.....
I can't remember a bloody thing about this one! Remember staying at my mate's gaff by Victoria Park, but was not exactly on my face for the gig :)

Barney lobbed his guitar into the crowd after the last song. Kicking off a big free-for-all of lads trying to claim it. Anyone managing to smuggle that out of the gaff would've 'kin deserved it in my eyes. Eventually security jumped in and retrieved the thing.
I'd been carried right back after that True Faith/Ceremony salvo. Don't think anyone in the place coulda been within 50 yards of where they started after that.
Anyone involved?
Lot of action outside the G-MEX afterwards. Small groups of Manc scallies (Gooch/Doddington?), who didn't look like they'd been to the gig, walking round picking lads off. Couldn't see why either. Didn't seem to be mugging them, just having a pop. I watched from the safety of a coach!
Great gig...fucking rained cats and dogs before..got soaked right thru !! Not sure if it was 'Shellshock' that they messed the intro up ?? Remember Bernard chanting ManUtd !! Good 'E's that nite.
same as gmex88, my first order gig and after i felt that i had passed a milestone in my live, it was as big to me as my first pint, wank, losing virginity, becoming a dad.
remember the week b4 got gastroenter.... shits and throwing up and was still ill when we went.
mondays were great, place still half empty, acr were shit hot for me coz i like the big pop band shite ( i know!! before anyone starts.) then it started going crazy!!!some big dudes in denim jackets turned up stinking and i mean STINKING of garlic and a bit lairy which pissed me off at the time coz i was trying to tap off with my mates norwegian bird, then when order came on it was like a last minute goal at wembley, FOOF1 what an eruption, then guess what? the rest is a fooking blur, too excited to take it in and by now im holding hands and thinking more about my semi-on, at 17 i must have been starstruck...aahh.

I'm not so sure the Gooch/Doddington gangs would be quite happy being labelled 'Manc scallies',being black & from Moss Side,but I got the gist!! Glad I fookin' missed that tho'

They didn't do Mr Disco, they did Dream Attack.
I was down the front but can remember very little about the gig. i remember them being introduced as Joy Division.
I do however remember missing the last train back and 'roughing it' by Piccadilly station. It was cold and wet!
In fact, thinking about it I saw ACR at the Leadmill the weekend before and remember Jez asking if people were going to the G-MEX.
I also remember them playing the 'Viking theme' and some tosser in Sonny Crockett style suit shouting "The Vikings are Coming, the Vikings are coming!"

I too was at the front when they came on, bout 4 or 5 back from the barrier. TBTHOG was first if I remember followed by Ceremony? Correct me if i'm wrong, i know one or two will!!
By the end of those songs i'd lost a gazelle off me foot and me mates and ,quite literally, floated about 30 yards from the stage.
Missed the mondays and ACR as we were all chewin our faces off trying to get served at the bar near to the entrance.
Club after, Konspiracy or PIPS as it was and then a taxi ride back to Helmshore for £15 which we couldnt muster between the 4 of us so we bailed out at a random house promising to come back and pay the poor fella. Obviously he never saw us again
Just on the filming. I've mentioned this elswhere but I definately recall hand held sort of waist strap cameras on stage durin the show so i'm convinced that footage will be hidden somewhere. Now that, i think you'll agree, we would all love to see. Someone sort it.

Definitely the GMEX gig. I seem to remember him in a Safari type outfit.

Can't work out how i didn't go to this.Recall it being on a Saturday night and not having to work or owt so could have gone.Fine Time was on TOTP the Thursday before.Had gone to the Wembley gig the year prvious .Must have been skint.Have got the NME review somewhere with some good pics

That was Michael Shamberg if ma memory serves me correctly, I'm sure he was also at the Ally Pally on the New Years Eve an all, cos me John and Lorraine were right down the front trying to grab his attention
As for the footage you mention, you sure it wasnae from the 2001 come back at Liverpool? Regret was recorded (and leaked) not sure about the whole gig though.

The footage was deffo from the MEN Arena gig Dec 98.The news item on MTV was early Jan 1999.Just some short piece about the MEN gig and the Ally Pally gig.As i said, the footage was just a couple of seconds

Digged out the NO Bootleg Video I've got the other day - not brilliant view as previously mentioned, sounds pretty good and you get the general idea - Barney balearic dancing even whilst playing his guitar!! If one of the regulars on here fancies transferring it to Digital and sharing with everyone I gladly send on.

There is definately a recording of the Mondays set too cos I used to have it, got it at a record fair but unfortunately the old stereo ravvled it up years ago! I have never managed to find it again tho. If anyones got a copy please let me know, Ive got plenty i can give you in return!

stayed at my mates' grans house in salford. awesome new order gig. as said before probably one of the best. lasted about 6 songs at the front. too knackered to continue. bought about 5 t shirts and a big fuck off poster. wish i still had em

I did actually have a copy of this gig on cassette,my ex wife at the time smuggled a mini tape recorder in,I got searched,she didn't :) from what I remember of it,The Happy Mondays were awful,I was hoping their set would end sooner rather than later,I have seen them a few times since and they didn't get any better :),ACR on the other hand,I quite liked,a bit of funky bass,nowt wrong with that IMHO
It was definitely on a Saturday as I went to watch Bradford City in the afternoon at Valley Parade. I had the t-shirt with the big orange spots for a while before my then fiancee decided to wash it on too high a temperature and the design disappeared!
yep i was there too, managed to stay near the front, even kept hold of the ticket (as posted earlier) also a tshirt which was similar to the ticket, however as i was a teenager at the time it wont fit me now! its in a box with all the others, i also remember been just out of reach to get the guitar and cant think why the person gave it back id have been well gone. bizarre moment was when we left the underground carpark and were alongside what looked like all of the Mondays crammed into a yellow Vauxhall Viva!!

Brilliant find thanks! My first and probably best NO gig. Memory is a bit hazy given I was 14 at the time and was slightly worse for wear but a cracking night! Stil have the ticket and t-shirt somewhere ....
First time i had seen it since the gig too, cheers for posting this, really enjoyed watching it again.
