Massive Attack, MGMT, Thievery Corporation for inaugural Moogfest

The North Carolina event will celebrate the life and legacy of Robert Moog

Massive Attack, MGMT and Thievery Corporation are the first names confirmed for the inaugural Moogfest.

Taking place in Asheville, North Carolina on October 29-31, the festival will celebrate the life and legacy of Robert Moog, the inventor of the Moog synthesizer.

Set to be a multi-venue event, the complete line-up of artists will be announced on July 27.

Best known for designing and creating the first commercial analog synthesizer, Moog produced a range of electronic instruments during his lifetime, which have been used by artists such as Kraftwerk, New Order, The Cure, Daft Punk, Depeche Mode and Radiohead.

"Bob Moog changed the course of music as we know it," organiser Ashley Capps said in a statement. "He put new worlds of sound literally at the fingertips of musicians, unleashing a creative revolution. We're thrilled and honored to be able to celebrate his extraordinary legacy in the place that he called home and we hope to do so for many years to come."

In addition to the music, a number of workshops, panel discussions, visual art exhibitions and film screenings will also be part of the bash.

Tickets for Moogfest go on sale from July 30, for more information visit www.moogfest.com.
